Dear Loren or anyone: I have been observing this sight for 2 years now waiting for anyone to pop up with info on my Betterley connection. It seems that we don't exhist.
For as far back as I can remember we always heard about the family homestead in Vermont. That we had a direct descedent that fought with George Washington; that my uncle had his bugle from that war. The Betterley page has given myself & my oldest daughter the incentive to try & find out anything but we are at a stand still ! My brother has a tremondous amount of family info & keepsakes but will not share it with anyone. He has been to the family cemetary in Vermont & the battle fields in Pennsylvania where relatives fought. My Aunt Mary born in 1916, & my mom born in 1920 are the only ones who's memories I can pick. The phone bills get a little high sometime. Aunt Mary remembers the most as my mom was the baby of 5 children. Unfortunately the family bible was left in a move across town & by the time it was missed it was too late to retrive it. So here goes what I do know:
my Great grandfather: George J. Betterley born in Ohio, we can't find out where
married #1 Mary (Kate) Nolon or Dolon
children: George
William 11/8/1877 in Ohio daughter-Lenore
Mary married Milan Hodgson
married #2Mary Flattery of Boston
children: Charles J. 3/5/1888 my grandfather
married: Gustie M. Swandel Cleveland
kids:Mildred 1909 " no children
George C. " no children
Mary Rita 1916 " spinster
Marcella 1918 "
Grace J. 1920 " my mother
#2 of Mary & George Annie " 1890
#3 " " Florence " 1893
#4 " " Grace " 1895
Now Aunt Mary said when she was a youngster George J. used to go every couple of years back to Vermont to vist his 1/2 brother; but she doesn't remember his name! The kids were sent out of the room when family things were discussed.
Any help is appreciated. DI
