I am probably related to this branch of the Betterleys. My grandmother (Jean Heller Moyer) always talked about our great - great..something grandparents, the Betterleys, and even took us out to the church at St. John's to see their graves when I was a kid (my grandparents lived in Hazleton and then White Haven). I was told the stories of how Mrs. Betterley served in the Revolutionary War with her husband. Our family version of the story had her working as a cook and getting flowers from George Washington himself! I would have to believe that my grandmother's great-grandmother was a Betterly named Anna Rebecca (in her obituary) or Sarah/Sallie Ann (as she is called on census records)who married Henry Woodring (who also came from the St. John's area). She would have to have been a daughter of George Betterly, son of William Carson Betterly and Ann Marshall Betterley (who was living with my ancestors when she was 100 years old, according to census records). Unfortunately, I can't seem to prove this connection, although one LDS record shows George having a daughter named Anna, the same age as my great....grandmother. I'm not familiar with any of the names on your post, do you know anyone further back in time? I haven't been able to get much info on this line of Betterlys past William Carson and Ann Betterly. Larry McGrath has some interesting information about them if you want it. Sorry I can't be of more help!
