Hi Elyse,
I am glad that the information helped. I still haven't found any connection to my line. Would you happen to know any information farther back then Severe's parents? I have researched my line as far back as the 1700's and so on. If you know any info on the ancesters of Severe that would be great. If you have any questions about where I found my info let me know.

Thanks for this information! My name is Elyse Betters, and Savare is my great-great grandfather. He had Charles Betters, who had Robert Betters, who had Shelley Betters (my mother). This information really helps to fill out my tree! Much appreciated. If you have any questions about the Betters family from Malone, let me know!

I am still looking for information on Isabell, I have run up against a brick wall there other than a 1850 Census. I have requested her SS5, so hopefully that will give more information. For those who were looking for information on Leroy and his family (Hattie, Charles, etc), I do have some good information there.
Sorry to bother you with yet another question, BUT. . .son Basom in the 1860 and 1870 census records would be the correct age to be the John I am looking for. In 1880, no Basom is found in census records, but John shows up. Do you have any other information on Basom? Perhaps John was a middle name?

Thanks,

Stella

Thank you Ray,

With the assistance of another kind researcher, we found that Eliza is the daughter of a John Betters and Angeline (Emeline) LaBombard. I did find a John Betters in the 1880 census records with spouse Angeline, but no John in 1870 or 1860. But, we believe him to be the son of Vetel and Pauline. Angeline is the daughter of Joseph LaBombard and Adele Giroux. Unfortunately, their marriage record at St. Matthews does not include the names of their parents.

Do you have any additional information that would confirm any of this? Thanks again,

Stella

There were three sisters: Salome, Esther and Marie. All the boys lived in the Blackbrook are except Oliver who lived in the Altona/Mooers area. Vetel had nine children from 1846 to 1864. The other brothers all had large familys also. I haven't found an Ella yet but I will keep looking. If I can answer any other questions let me know.

Betters and Lemieux Families - Clinton County New York

Looking for information on Eliza or Ella Betters/lemieux. She was born 1880 something probably in the Black Brook area of Clinton County, New York and married Euclid Gravel. In trying to narrow down the names of her parents I skimmed through the 1880 census records and came up with 7 Betters households in Black Brook, several others in Altoon, Mooers, Ellenburgh and Plattsburgh.

Heads of households in Black Brook are: Vetal, 62; Louis, 48; Nelson, 30; John, 28; James, 25; Louis, 25; and Joseph, 22 (living with hotel keeper Henry Douglas). The names of the children of these heads of household are all remarkably similiar leading me to believe that the younger men are brothers and the sons of Vetal, except for the Louis at 48 - possibly, he is a much younger brother to Vetal???

Can anyone help me sort out this family? Thanks,

Brian Sawyer

Looking for information on a Eliza Betters/Better from the Clinton County, New York area. I believe she would have been born around 1881. The 1880 census for Black Brook includes entries for the family of a Lewis and Maria Betters, childrens names are: Maria, Lewis, Mary, Noah, Edward, Emelina, Elora, Francis, Emma. Emma as the youngest child is one year old.
A second Betters family of Joseph and Phebe, with children: Lucy, Mary, Joseph, Melinda, Frederick, Lewis, and Jenny.
Can anyone link these two families to an Eliza or possibly Elizabeth who would have been born after the 1880 census?

Hi Shannon! It seems that we are cousins of a sort. My grandfather was Bruce Drinkwine. My great-grandparents were Isabel and Leroy "Tuffy" Drinkwine. I met our great-aunt Aileen (Drinkwine) Mitchell just a few weeks ago in search of my own family history. I learned a great deal from her. Let me know what I can help you with.

Katie (Drinkwine) Layer

I have a record (just in letters, not an official document) of an Oliver who was born in 1850, but I show him as born in Derby Line, VT, from the LeMieux family - Quebec. Is there any possibility it's the same person? This Oliver married Josephine Bruette.
