He served in the Revolutionary War.He married Mary Wilson in 1760 who was born about 1740 in Cumberland Co.NC, and died in Amite Co. Miss.Their first son Stephen was married 3 times. He died in In Monroe Co. Ala. Jul 22 1824. His second wife was Mary Lott who was born about 1775 in Old Ninety-Six District Noth Carolina. She died Aug. 27 1823 in Monroe Co.,Ala. Their 2nd son, Elisha Lott Bettis was born on Jul 11 1800 in S.C. He married Mary Hearin Jan 22 1824 in Clarke Co. Ala. She was born Jul 18 1803 in S.C/ and died Jun 11 1888 in Clarke Co,Ala. Their 5th child was Elisha Hearin Bettis-Br. Dec 15 1833,died Aug 28 1912 in Clarke Co. Ala.Their 1st child,my grandfather, was Lemuel Elisha Bettis who was born Mar 8 1867 in Clarke Co. and died Aug. 23, 1926 in S.C.I believe he died in railroad accident. He was married to Eva Everett on Mar 16 1890 and I believe they lived in Miss.maybe Water Valley and by the time their last 3 children were born,were living in Memphis,Tenn.My father was their 1st child, Earl Wilson Bettis was br. in Miss. I visited them in Memphis when I was a child, but by then 1945 or 46 my grandfather was deceased. I did know my Grandmother and and my father's four sibblings.
