Matthew was the father to Alford and there is nothing to prove his nme was Marshall. This was hearsay from a lady that may have been in her 80's and the story came from her husband. So its was second handed HEARSAY........!!!!!!!!

James Bettis was a brother of Francis Bettis, their parents being John Bettis Sr. and Mary Doser/Dozier. Alford/Alfred's parents were MatthewBettis and Winnefred Lott #1. I believe Matthew was a polygamist, and was married to the two Winnefred's at the same time, because their childrens' years of birth are interspersed. And one Winnifred died in 1873 and the other one died in 1873 or early 1784. It is very odd indeed."
