My Grandfather's name was Dan Bettis. He lived for many years in Anthony, KS, just north of the Oklahoma line.
He farmed and was also a Minister.

Buxton was a coal mining town that was about 15 miles from Rexfield 5. (My mom was born in Rex which has reverted to pasture land). There is going to be a tour of Buxton August 1 to tell about the history of the town. You can contact Rosalie Mullinex at rosaliem@IowaTelecom.net if you'd like to go. No charge. It is part of the celebration of the the sesquicential for Albia, Iowa which was sort of at the center of the southern Iowa coal mining era. Louis was my great grandfather's brother. I remember meeting him at family reunions, but he died when I was 5 or 6 years old. My mom certainly knew him, and she'll be on the tour. KY 9 May 1821, d. 14 Mar 1892), Robinson (who died as a youth), Enoch, and Fanny. Francis was their son and he is buruied in St Francois County, MO. There is plenty on the Bounds side but, I am having trouble finding Elijahs grandparents. I know his father is Jacob Smith and his mother was Elizabeth Beatz from what I see on a death certificate. Maybe it is Bettis. My sister has Elijahs cival war papers. Francis was born 1867 and died in 1948. I have come across a lot of mispelling in my search. Francis married Elizabeth Lynch and she is related to Sophia Hanks/Lynch who was related to Abe Lincolns mother, Nancy. I will have to get with my sister and see if she has found anything new. When Elijah enlisted he was in his 30's and had one child at that time.

Harris Bettis is one of my grandfathers I don't know how many greats it is, but he goes back to King George county VA. I was told via email that Harris Bettis' father is probably Daniel Bettis, m. to Susannah Rogers in King George Co., VA. I cant confirm this and was wondering if anyone else could.

The line goes from Me Matt Bettis, to my father Ken Bettis, to his father Kenneth Gail Bettis, to his father Al Bettis, from there I get confused, I think it goes Danial Bettis to William Bettis to Harris Bettis, but I cant be sure cause this is from memory and i don't have the tree in front of me.

The family started in VA went to Kentucky to Iowa, to MO, to California. My cousin is the researcher she has the tin types and the Cherokee info, along with the tribal stuff and some old rifles and flags.

Matthew was the father to Alford and there is nothing to prove his nme was Marshall. This was hearsay from a lady that may have been in her 80's and the story came from her husband. So its was second handed HEARSAY........!!!!!!!!

There is no Documenntation on Winney/ Winniford but the Winney that on the Census in 1850 Clarke Co., Al.

and was named in her mother's Will and in the Will of Matthew Bettis. Daug of Jesse Lott

The First wife is Hear Say ! with no Documentation as to what her name was. 1st Wife said to be the Dau.of Mark Lott and from Lott Researchers Mark did not have a daughter Winney/Winniford Lott. This untruth has be copied and copied so many times it taken on a life of it own!

Family Research Books are great but they must have
Sources and documatation.

John Bettis was born about 1700 ? He died in Pasquotank, NC in about 1750. Francis his eldest son died in Edgefield Co.,SC about 1782.John Bettis was born about 1738 in Edgecombe Co.,NC and died in Edgefield. He served in the Revolutionary War

There is no Documentation are Sources that Matthew married
two Winney Lott. Hearsay is not a Source.

Even if its written in a Book without Souces if means nothing.

Matthew's second wife Winney or Winnifred has Sources and
Documentation thur Wills and Census Records. But nothing on the first. There is no way to even known what her name was............

Hi ....You are my 2nd cousin....Oscar was my grandfather and yes he was a twin....he married Ethel May Geyer...my father was John Franklin Chaney....named after both grandfathers..(his)...Franklin Chaney and John H. Geyer....So sorry am answering so late on this...have been off due to a chronic illness cannot shake...and had just about given up on the genealogy....Have been stuck with Franklin and Sadie forever ...at least sure seems that way...Please, do you have any information that you can tell me...please email me at kittykitty_meow2@yahoo.com also, need to renew my ancestry and myfamily page... My Papaw was HD (Horace David) Chaney, from what i have reading from post, his father was most likely Franklin, and i know his mother was Sadie. I wasn't exactly sure where he was born but think it was in Hawkins county Tn. At one time he lived in Oklahoma but he has lived in Winona, Texas throughout my whole life. He was married to a Juanita Chaney. I know for sure he had brothers named Oscar and Arthur (I believe they were twins), also Twins run on both sides of my mom's family. Actually she is a twin, her name is Linda Gail Chaney (maiden name) and her twin, Billy Chaney. I know that my papaw was married a few times. He had children I think from all of the marriages, and possibly more where there might not of been a marriage.. would like to know more and connect w/relatives... Oh, and Papaw had a son named Daryl, my mother said she had never met him but heard his name a couple of times. Back then, it seems families were more hush-hush. although, I believe Daryl was listed in my papaws obituary. Also, I think he lived in Dallas/or lived.

Bedford Bettis

This is another request on info regarding Bedford Bettis. He was my husband's grandfather. He lived for some time in Pontiac Michigan. Children we know of are Forrest (my father-in-law), and Bob. There were also two daughters or stepdaughters (Jewel and Minoka). I have heard of possibly other children, but am not sure of the details.
Please help me with my research. My husband doesn't know much about his family, and I want to dig a little deeper, so we can share the family genealogy with our only son (who happens to be the only male descendant of Forrest's).

I am helping connect my brother in law, Mark Wilson, to his family.

His grandparents were George W. Triplett and Nell Bettis. They were married August 10, 1936 at the First AME Church in Albuquerque, NM. George and Nell met as high school students. She was a graduate of Albuquerque High School 1933 and he matriculated from St. Mary’s Catholic High School in Albuquerque about the same time.

Mark shows that Earl Bettis was a Special Delivery Postmaster for Albuquerque. Mark has recently delved into his family history as he has opened a trove of family pictures and documents left to him by his mother, Sonja Triplett.

I am happy to put you in touch with him as he has no computer. He lives outside Albuquerque.

William R. is found in Jefferson Co., married to Mary from 1850 thru 1870. She remarried to Washington Ailey in 1878 in Jefferson Co. She and William married in abt 1848. He is found in the 1840 census with 1 male 20-30 and 1 male 30-40, 1 female 20-30 and 1 female 60-70, who I can only guess may have been his mother. In 1830 I find a William and a William Sr. but no William R. I am tring to find the parents of William R. born abt 1804 and Mary Ann Newman born abt 1827.
Would like to know if Mary Ann is buried with Washington Ailey or William Bettis and where they both are.
The children of William and Mary Ann are :

I am looking for information on Lizzie Bettis who lived in Hamilton, Bradley or James County, Tennessee. I do not know her date of birth or date of death. She is suppose to be my great-great grandmother. She married John Smith and I do not know his date of birth or death. All I know is my great-grandfather's name was Jackson Andrew Smith b. Aug. 10, 1873 and d. Dec. 31, 1959. Jack married Nancy Faye McGill b. June 21, 1886 d. Sept. 5, 1959. Jack supposedly had a brother named Newt or Newton who was married to Vandalee Bolton.

Our Bettis family came from somewhere in the east, probably Tennessee. We have been told that we are French Canadian and when we migrated over our name got changed from Betis(pronounced Biteese-french)to Bettis. We are part Cherokee Indian. My gggrandmother is full blooded Cherokee. Any news or information helping us go further back would be grateful.

Adele Cobb Kerrigan Book and the "Lost son of Tennessee"

Adele, in her research and the story that was given by Mrs. John A. Lott conclusion was that Alford Bettis of Wilson, Co., Tennessee was that lost son of Tennessee
and his first name was Marshall.

Adele shows no Sources to prove her theory and the possible
that Alford Bettis was Marahall and the son of Matthew of Edgefield, SC are essential nil.

Just because it was written in a Book does not make it fact and there must be
proven Sources.

Dr. Nat C. Bettis in his Book and the gg grandson of Alford Bettis states;

"For certain, I would be very pleased to find more material that would be
pertinent, in particular, to the ancestry (or descendants for that matter) of
ALFORD BETTIS of Tennessee (1798-1859 or 1869) I do not subscribe to the
Kerrigan view he was the "lost son, Marshall, of Matthew and Winniford Lott
Bettis of Alabama."

If Alford Bettis had in fact been the son of Matthew and was born in
South Carolina he would have had no relationship with Wyatt Bettis and
his family in Wilson Co., Tennessee and because of that connection
it leads one to be believe with certain that Alford was the Son of Wyatt
Bettis of Wilson Co., Tennessee.

Alford's son John Calvin Bettis death Certificate #55856 Clearly States
that his father was Alford Bettis, information given by his son A.L. Bettis
(Alford Lance Bettis).

And in the Bio of George Washington Bettis, Alford's son comes this;

G.W. Bettis, Goodspeed Biography
G.W. Bettis is a Wilson Co. Tennesseean, born in 1822, one of nine
children, seven of whom are living, born to Alfred and Maggie (Conyers)Bettis.
The former was born in North Carolina and came to Tennessee when a boy
and to west Tennessee in 1835.

Hello, Did he have a son name Leonard? In Williford Arkansas? If so, then I knew them, also a Kenny Bettis from that area, Bought a 1966 Mustang from him when I was a young man.

I used to live there, went to school and all, migrated to Australia many years ago, now am trying to trace the family tree.

I am the Biological grandson of Dan w. Bettis Born in 1898, his father was John T. Bettis Born in 1854 in Tennessee according to the 1900 U.S. Census. And I believe there was another brother Robert L. Bettis born in 1896. I really do not know any details of my ancestors before that, I believe John B Bettis Born in 1918, who was the father of Bedford Forest Bettis, may be my Great Great Grandfather, but I can't find the connection.
