Looking for information on the surname, Betz, but this spelling may be off the mark. I have information on a man who had a rather dark history, being convicted of murder, and plotting yet another one while in jail. This is certainly not the kind of information most people want to learn more about, particularly in their own family, but if there is anyone who would like to make this connection, I have some information. This Betz was convicted of murder in gold rush California, c. 1851, and was jailed briefly at Sonora. My g-g-grandfather, David Cooper, was the jailer and his journal is about to be published. I have some interesting anecdotal information, and I would like to find out more about this man if he can be identified and anything more is known.
