Hello,

I would like a family crest picture!
My Grandfather was born in Germany his name is Great grandfather George Betzold. The story I was told was that him and his sister were orphaned and noone knows who raised them, maybe a relative. My Grandfather also George Betzold
lived in Colorado and Kansas.
Maybe you have information?

I am searching for the past of Marilyn Ann Betzold and her German heritage,(Prussia, I believe). Her direct family settled in what is now Brainerd, MN(possibly Crow Wing, MN area). Her father was John Betzold and her mother was Marguerite Hetz,(I believe). They were Catholic and she had 3 brothers: John, Bob(possibly, Robert), and another, as well as a twin sister, Marianne.(Possibly, Marion/Marienne).

Re: Family History

Hi there.
My name is Jennifer Ebeling and my great grandfather was Servatzius May. He came to America with his brothers John and Mike. They listed they were coming to Osceola Iowa to settler with their brother-in-law with the last name of Krausert (this is on the ship manifest)- they arrived in American in 1893. Later, John and his wife Anna, moved to Canada. I believe that they followed the Krauserts once more. The manifest is difficult to read - but the name looks something like Lorenz J Krausert. I see on familysearch.org that there was a Conrad Krausert who was married to a Kiffler? Kiffler or Kuveler was a family that had married with the May family for a few generations back in the Eifel region of germany. Any info you may have on this family would be a great help to me. Are the Mays and the Krauserts together up in Alberta?
Thanks for any help.
Jennifer Dekker Ebeling
Maple Grove, MN
PJEbeling@comcast.net

Dear Gloria: Please forgive if this is a repeat of an earlier message I tried to send thru Ancestry.com--I'm not certain how this messaging system works. My name is Nick Betzold Jr., I am a great great granson of Margaret Betzold, mother of my great grandfather, Nicholas, father of my grandfather Harold, father of my father, Nicholas (Sr.). Based on what I have read in the system, from older messages, you believe Margaret, who lived in Brainerd, MN at the time of the 1880 census, was married to a John Betzold. Am I correct in this and if so, where did you find this information and have you found anything else out about the families history in Germany, Ohio or Indiana before they got to MN? If you are related to the same Margaret, I believe we're related! Thanx for your help!

Hello.
Hope we have a connection.
My great grandmother Annie Mueller, widow of Henry Mueller, Baltimore, remarried to a Frederick Betzold, also of Baltimore.
Together they had a daughter, Magdalena, born 1894. Frederick died sometime before 1913, because the then widow Annie moved with her daughter to Reading, Pennsylvania. She lived there until at least 1921. After that, I lose the trail, although she may have passed away.

Does any of this tie in with your Betzold family? I do not know where Annie is buried, but my guess is Baltimore as she had 2 husbands there.

I hope this is the break I've been looking for!
Marguerite

Nice to hear from you, Jennifer. If your last name is Krausert, you can bet we are related! There was only one Krauset who came from Germany back in the 1800's, Frederick and his wife Teckla. He had 3 sons with him, they settled in Iowa for a time, and then they split the family, one to Canada, one to the Dakota's, and then Minnesota. I am from the Minnesota line. My fathers' name was John Edward (Jack) Krausert. He came from Gabriel and Anna Fuchs Krausert, and Gaberiel came from Friederick and Teckla Krebs Krausert. I think the Donald Krausert line springs from Conrad and Hattie's line, but I would have to check my files to make sure. I can get back to you if you are still interested, and if you think this would be helpful. The Krausert line is a very interesting line to research! Let me know. Mary Ann

Hello there! Nice to hear from a family cousin! Your beloved Grandma Margaret was my first cousin, and although we had never met, I am sure she was a wonderful Grandma to you. What Grandma wanted to be kept "secret" is really no secret to public files that are available for research. I wish you well in your studies and also to your family. Lorrie and I have been working together since after Christmas, filling in areas each of us lack, but we still have questions on this Christine. Her obit lists Philomena's children as her son and daughters. Peculiar!
I met Lorrie online also, and we are planning on meeting this summer. Joseph and Phil. are my great grandparents.
I like this new feature of the updated Message Boards on Ancestry.com, or I would never have met you! Joseph and Minnie are my maternal great grandparents, and I just recently came across their gravesite in St. Cloud, as I was looking for someone else. Lorrie is a very knowledgable cousin to work with, and she has also helped me.
The "Joseph" name is carried on in each succeeding generation of the Betzold line, which is common, but confusing! Joseph who married Philomena, had a father also named Joseph. The mother's name, I believe, was Helene Knop. I have very little information on these two, except they were born and married in Trier, Germany. I would appreciate any data you might have also. Nice meeting you, Cousin!
The German Line of the Betzold Family and the meaning of the word Betzold

Hello,

I think probably I have some Information about the Betzolds in Germany.

The Betzold family stems from the German town "Rothenburg ob der Tauber". The name "Betzold" comes from the word "Betz" in the old German language. It means as much as "Bear". In our family history it is told that the name "Betzold" means "Bearhunter".

The Betzolds of Rothenburg were merchants and clothiers. They were eligible to the council of Rothenburg and a honourable family of the city. The first documented appearance in Rothenburg was 1478. In 1528, in the middle of the thirty years war, it is documented that a Betzold was the major of the city.

In about 1580 the family divided. One part moved to Silesia. Their name was changed to Petzold, written with P. They lost contact to the other Betzolds and were scattered all over Europe, when Silesia got part of Poland after the second World War.

The second Part of the family, the ones that are still called Betzold moved to Schwabach near Nuremberg. This is the Part that still lives in Germany.

Our family has detailed Information about this part of the Betzolds. If you still are interested I could look for Michael Betzold.

If you wish, I also can send you a picture of the family crest of the Betzolds. You can contact me anytime!

Best regards
Ulrich Justus Betzold
I am not sure how I started getting these messages, but it is OK with me. I was wondering if anyone knows if Nick or Margaret were somehow related to John S. Krausert, who I believe was the son of Conrad and in-turn had two sons, Don and Jack. Don was my father. Just curious.

I live in Chanhassen, MN, just west of Mpls with 3 kids and my wife Angie. I am 46. I am self-employed as a consultant for the last 4 years, working with manufacturing companies to reduce inventory levels and lead-times (time from customer order to delivery).

How about you?

Margaret Krausert Prybella was my Grandma. I belive Nick would be my Great Grandpa. My father Gerald Prybella passed away 7/16/00 six weeks after my Grandma. Not many of my Dad's family left. Grandma Marge told me stories about her family. Not so much about her father though. Grandma kept it a guarded secret and I think that's how it should be. It must have been painful what ever it was. She was a loving and thoughtful woman.
