my great grandmother said she was born at beversdorf.

this seems to be an unusual spelling. is this also the city name where this family is from?

I show an Albert Beversdorf in my family tree. I show he was born 1845 in Prussia, and died after 1930 in Wisconsin, probably Shawano. I only have a first name for his wife - Emelia, born 1848.

I have his father's name as Carl, no dates, but his spouse was Johanna F Zieman. Could these be in your line?

I wish I could help you on your Wisconsin Beversdorfs, but I don't think I have any information which would be helpful to you. My Albert Beversdorf was the son of Johann G. Beversdorf, born December 21, 1820 in Karnkawitz, West Prussia, married February 2, 1844 to Albertine Marie Louise Mau, born December 10, 1824, Karnkawitz. Both died in Dubuque, Iowa. We have like given names in your family and mine. We both had an Albert, a Carl and a Wilhelm. My Carl was the son of my g-grandparents, Albert Beversdorf and Mary Dolter Beversdorf. Carl never married and was killed in France during WWI. Johann G. and Albertine had a son, Frank Wilhelm, born December 1, 1855, in Karnkawitz, West Prussia. I have no information as to whether he married, or not. He died April 25, 1896. I'm awfully sorry I couldn't be of further help.

I think your name is Claire from your email address. I know your message was posted a long time ago, 2000, but my husband is a decendant from the Shawano County Wisconsin Beversdorf families. Carl Beversdorf and Johanna Zieman had Wilhelm, Julius, Albert and Matilda. They lived in villages by the name of Schonau, Ebersfeld and Demmin, Kreis Schlochau in Central Pommerania. All four of them immigrated from 1867 - 1883. Do you know if there is any connection with the Beversdorfs who settled in Iowa? I am trying to locate civil and/or church records from this part of Pommerania but am having no luck. Please advise.

Diane Beversdorf Stevens Point, WI

Steve Schultz your a 3rd cousin to my partner Richard Braatz.

Julius Beversdorf was also Richard Braatz's great great grandfather.

I have gathered some information not mentioned yet (correct me if anything seems wrong).

Julius's sister Emilie J. Beversdorf married John STREHLOW in Schonau, Pommern. She immigrated as a widow in 1883 with her children. She remarried in Town of Herman, Shawano, WI to Wilhelm H. Schmidt (a widower with children).

Julius's first wife died in 1873 and he remarried a Henrietta by the 1880 census.
I'd don't know her last name.
Could you share that info if you know it?

Julius Beversdorf's other daughters were Minna, Bertha W., and Ida M. Beversdorf all were born after 1875.

Julius & Fredricka (Jahnke)Beversdorf's daughter Matilda L. Beversdorf married Fred C. Schultz.

Fred C. Schultz and his two brothers were born in NY and I know his parents and grand parents were from Mecklenburg (Germany). Do you need this info?

Fred C. & Matilda L. (Beversdorf) Schultz had these 10 children: Elsie A., Julia, Pauline, Lillian, Hattie E.,
Freida, Florence H., Fredrick A., Matilda, and William T..

Lillian Schultz married William Braatz. They are my partners grandparents.

Richard's great grandfather Albert Braatz married an Emelia Schultz. I haven't found a tie between her and the other Schultz family members I have found.
Would you have any information on an Emelia Schultz and her family?

I was wondering what your dad's first name is and if he is related to our Schultz family members.

cousin D.

P.S.
Re: Beversdorf from Germany to WI

According to my information Julius Beversdorf was born June 29 1839, and had two brothers (Wilhelm, 1836 and Albert, 1844) and one sister (Emilie, 1849). Their parents were Carl Beversdorf and Johanna Fredricka Zieman. Emilie was born in Ebersfelde, Kreis Schlochau, Pommern, Prussia (later Germany). I'd assume the three brothers were born there too.

Julius married Fredricka Jahnke and traveled to America circa 1868 with three children, August, Albert C., and 6 week old Mathilda. Julius's brother Wilhelm immigrated to America sometime after 1873 and his brother Albert immigrated in 1873.

Julius and Fredricka had three sons - in addition to August and Albert C. mentioned above, there was William. There were other daughters in addition to Mathilda. I don't have their names but my mother is looking them up.

Julius's son Albert C. was my great grandfather. He's referred to as Albert C. or A.C. because there was another Albert Beversdorf living in the town of Richmond, Shawano County also. A.C.'s son Grover was my grandfather. And Grover's oldest daughter, Ione, is my mother.

We're obviously distant cousins. Where do you fit in the family tree?

Steve Schultz flwrgrdn@ezwebtech.com

P.O. Aug. 4, 1927 in Shawano) married Hugo Beversdorf (b. April 3, 1921). They had children John, Richard, and Jane Ann. Just wondering if these names match up with any of your Beversdorfs since you said you had much on the Beversdorfs.

Their children were Frank (my grandfather)
twins-Adolph and Rudolph, Carl (killed in WW1)
Henry (Heiney), Marie. I believe Albert also
had a sister, Bertha. Any information would
be appreciated. My email is clairek@ktc.com.

Albert Beversdorf in Iowa

For Cheryl and Ann-I was just reading the Beversdorf message board and came across your messages. My great-grandfather was Albert Beversdorf married to Mary Doulter. They lived in Dubuque, Iowa. Is this the same Albert you were mentioning? Also, a point of interest, I live in Texas and am reading the History of Kerr County. Last night I came across the name of August Beversdorf as serving in a group of minutemen to protect the people from Indians in the late 1870's. Is this the same August Beversdorf you mentioned? My email address is clairek@ktc.com if either of you are interested in contacting me directly.

Hi Mary,

I don't know if I can be any help in regard to the Lightfoot family. Do you live in Dubuque? If so, you probably already know as much about the Lightfoot's as I do. William Otto Lightfoot's wife was Irene (maiden name unknown). Let me know what you might want on the Beversdorf side and I'll send it to you via this list. The only thing I could tell you regarding the Lightfoot's would be the names of William and Irene's children. Anyway, let me know what you need and we'll go from there.

Claire KinKaid
clairek@ktc.com

Jerry,

The only place I know where you might check on the names in which you're interested would be with Arnold's son, Bob. My only interest is in the Beversdorf name and Arnold had done a lot of research in that area for several years. Bob's email address is bob_beversdorf@wycliffe.org. I think he's pretty busy so you might have trouble getting him to answer. You may already know him. I've never met him, only communicated with him once. I had never met his dad, but my aunt met him and kept in touch with him regularly.

Claire KinKaid

Mary, I talked with my mother yesterday to see if she could share any more Lightfoot information which you might be interested in. She said she remembered living next door to William Otto's mother when my mother was about nine years old. She said as she remembers Mrs. Lightfoot's husband had died and she was remarried. My mother couldn't recall her married name. She said that Mrs. Lightfoot was a very attractive lady, very kind, neat and well-dressed. As my mother could recall, she remembers Mrs. Lightfoot made beautiful quilts and that in later years she made her home with her daughter, Alvina Mechlanberg (sp.). You mention your husband's grandmother being Mae Alvina Lightfoot, so I guess it would be his grandmother that Mrs. Lightfoot went to live with. My mother also remembered Alvina Mechlanberg as being a very attractive woman. Just wanted to pass these "remembrances" on to you. My mother is 84, so these memories go back a long time.

Take care.

Claire KinKaid
clairek@ktc.com

Dear Claire, I have a lot on the Lightfoots. I was after Jennie Lightfoot and Sylvester Beversdorf's marriage date, both of their death dates, Sylvester's birth and parents, where buried and then all their children and their spouses dates, etc. William Otto Lightfoot's wife's name was Irene Cordelia Block, daughter of William Block and Mary Hartman. Yes, I would like the names and spouses, if you have, to compare them to mine to see if I have missed any, of William and Irene's children. William Otto Lighfoot was born April 10, 1898 at Potosi, Wisconsin to William Lafayette Lightfoot and Gennive Bambrough and died November 9, 1967 at the age of 69 years. He and she are buried at Linwood Cemetery. Irene was born August 8, 1900 at Clermont, Iowa or Guttenberg, Iowa. She died March 21, 1969. Will be waiting to hear from you and thank you.

Ann,
My dad's father's name was William. I think William had a brother, Albert, and a sister, Matilda. I'm quite certain about the name Albert but I may be getting the sister's name wrong. My dad, Erwin (not a nickname) had one brother, Art, a minister, and three sisters, Viola, Alice and Hilda (housewives). My dad's mother's name was Adela (Schoeneke). They had a farm on County Trunk M outside of Shawano in the late 1800's and early to mid-1900's. The farm was sold in the early 60's, I think.

I only spent a total of five years in Shawano. The first two years of my live (1945-1947) and then from 1950-1953 when my parents (Agnes is my mom), sister (Audrey) and brother (Alden) lived on Evergreen Street. After that, we moved to Stevens Point and eventually my folks lived in Racine until they passed away in 1980 and 1992. My sister lives in Chicago and my brother is a minister in Merrill. I am married and live in Arlington, VA outside of Washington, DC.

I look forward to hearing more about you and your family. I know there are lots of Beversdorfs in the Shawano area and we should be able to figure out how we might be related.

Cheryl

Cheryl,
I have many families and generations of Beversdorfs from Shawano. However, I don't see a Erwin. Who was his father? Many have a few first names. Was Erwin a nickname?According to my records, Julius and Fredericka came from Damien Pomern Germany. If I remember correctly, that's Prussia. I then have listed Ebersfeld, Schlochau - which I guess is the city.
My Grandma is a Beversdorf. E-mail me at Arogerse@aol.com and we can discuss this further and see how we fit together. did you grow up in Shawano?
Ann
