Re: Burwell/Burrell Bevell

I don't if Burwell lived to 109, but on footnote.com, a search for him turned up the fact that there was a Burwell who died in the Revolutionary War. And according to the book by Mary Kegley, Early Adventurers in the town of Evansham, there was a Burwell Bevill living in Wytheville in the 1820's. So there were definitely 2 Burwell's. But who the parents are of at least one of the Burwell's is the big problem. Despite looking at ancestry dozens of times, I cannot find the mother and father of Burwell from the 1820's. According to Benjamin's census, his father, Burwell, was born in North Carolina. Maybe the Burwell who was living in the 1820's is the son of the Burwell who died during the Revolutionary War, but if so, who was his mother? The book says that the wife of Burwell (1820's) was Dorothy Johnston. There were at least 2 sons. Their names were Benjamin and William H.

Still, if anyone has any information about Burwell, please contact me.

I have found through a website called footnotes.com that there were at least 2 Burwell Bevill's. One died during the Revolutionary War, one lived in Wytheville, Virginia, around 1821.

The latter is the father of William and Benjamin Bevill. He was married to Dorothy N. Johnston. No idea who his father was. This information was found in the books written by Mary Kegley. Wytheville was once known as Eversham. Ms. Kegley and her husband published several books using courthouse records as their source.

William H and Roxena

AFter obtaining a copy of the book, Early Adventurers in the Town of Evansham, written by Mary B. Kegley, I discovered that the father of William H. Bevill is Burwell Bevill. The brother of William H. Bevill is Benjamin Bevill. Benjamin purchased several plots of land in Evansham, now known as Wytheville, Virginia. According to census records in Wytheville, Burwell was married to Dorothy N. Johnston and she was the mother of William and Benjamin. I have seen several mentions on ancestry.com that Howell Bevill was married to Dorothy N. Johnston. I don't believe Dorothy would have married 2 different Bevill men.

The son of William H. Bevill, John Milton BeVille, spelled his last name differently. It is this way on his gravestone in Hampton, Virginia,..... "BeVille".

Also, it is very possible that Howell was living in Wytheville (Evansham) Virginia at the same time as Benjamin aand William H. Bevill. Benjamin and Howell, both born in NC, lived in Wytheville around 1821 to at least 1860.

This book also confirms that Benjamin was married to Susan Hoofnoggle. William H. was married to Roxenna G. Hoilman, and later to Mary J. Rider, daughter of William and Mary Bales Rider.

If anyone has any further information such as who the father of Burwell Bevill is, please leave me a message on this board.
Does anyone have information about who William's father was?

William was born approx 1817 and died 1867 in Wytheville, Virginia. He and Roxena had a son named John Milton BeVille, who is now buried in Hampton, Virginia. I have found information about his death, marriages, and children, but have had no luck finding his father and mother.

My name is Linda Bevill. My dad, Leonard Walton Bevill was one if Otis & Ellen's sons. Therefore, John Thomas was my great grandfather. I was just searching for info on Sophronia when I found your post. She is very elusive and I have sketchy info from my dad's sister (Lola) about the family. I remember Aunt Sade and "Chock" Deshane. He was one of my favorite relatives.

Looking for 2 brothers that were born in the late 40's to the the early 50's. Their birth father would have been Robert Versie Williams and we believe their mom was Marie Williams born around 1927. Marie and Robert were married in Saline Co. Arkansas in 1948. I have information that they may have been raised and possibly adopted by their step father who we believe may have been Ed Bevill from around Bebee, AR. These two boys would be my half brothers and they probably don't even know I exist or that there are other siblings that are looking for them too. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,

Rodney Hotairballoonist@hotmail.com or Melissa8867@aol.com

My tree is McDonald, Martin, Bevill, Pritchet, Paschall. You should have no trouble seeing it. I have taken the Bevills back to the Viking era. We are cousins to almost all the Royal heads of Europe and are distant cousins to Queen Elizabeth and Diana Spenser. One of the Bevils was an aide to George Washington and we have a college, several cemeteries and ridges named for the Bevills.I have the books "700 years of the Bevill family" and "Pioneering in America" Plus I went on line and got lots of information on the family. If you have trouble seeing my tree let me know.
Pat

Pat, I am also interested in your Augusta Price of Arkansas. I have Price ancestors who were in Ark, then Miss, then Texas. They were my GGgrandparents, John W. Price & Minerva Lunceford Price. They were murdered in Texas in 1867 & they left orphans, one of whom was Ella Madora Price who was sent back to NC to live with her aunt, Caroline Lunceford Youngblood. Have anything on them? I know there were many many Prices.

Which child are you descended from? I will be glad to share this picture via e-mail if you're interested in it. It's from the newspaper but is pretty good. My e-mail address is gdganey@aol.com. If you'll send me your address we can talk directly and share information. Hope to hear from you soon.

Gina

I would like to know more about Rarden's father, William?, who fought in the Revolutionary War. Also, I have seen Rutelia's maiden name as Cost and Cass. Does anyone know which is correct?
Chevis Bevill

Rardon had his first son by Rutelia Cost (Ruth) and his name was Chevis according to my dad's research. He was a full brother to my great grandfather Francis K (or Toddie as he is better known as around here). Rardon had 15 children total--6 by first wife Mary, 1 by second wife Ann who died in infancy, and 8 by third wife Rutelia.

As far as his father's name I only know it by what I have learned on the internet. But I believe it to be true. I have read that William fought in the Revolutionary War and was wounded in the arm. He left South Carolina to teach in North Carolina and his wife never heard from again. If the kids heard from him I don't know.

I am new at this (just since we got our computer in May) and am still learning but I would love to communicate and exchange information.

Carol Bevill Sargent

Bevilles of Devon and Cornwall, ex-1066

I am interested in finding out any research about the descendents of Humphrey de Beauville/Bevil/Beville who we believe came over to England in 1066 with William the Conqueror and was bequeathed land by the king near Looe in Cornwall. Most Beville nowadays in the UK live in Devon, next to Cornwall.
I am making the request on behalf of Eric Leigh whose mother was Ellena Bevel, born Devon 1879.
If anyone can offer any links between the medieval Bevilles and those of the 18th/19th centuries, please get in touch.
Thank you!

His father was Burley Bennett Bevill who was employed by Granite City Steel for 35 years plus and his mother was Doris Rae (Rash) Bevill. Burley had a brother William, Richard, and John as well as a sister Ruth. Terry's sister are Maureen Bevill Graves, Susan Bevill Swane, and Patricia Bevill.
Do not know burley's parent's names but they were called Pop and Granny B.
Could this be the same Burley Bennet Bevill that you are speaking of?
