John Bewick / Mary Carter, Kirkwhelpington

I'm looking for any link to a John Bewick who I think sired my gt gt grandfather George by Mary Carter, single woman.
This all took place end 18th and beg 19th century in Kirkwhelpington, Northumberland.
In the 1851 census and thereafter, George 'Bewick' gives his place of birth as Kirkwhelpington
In the Kirkwhelpington parish registers Mary Carter had 8 children, some of whom had a John Bewick named as father. The oldest child was John , batised in 1795. George was baptised on 25 Dec 1814. No father was named for him. I have no idea of John Bewick's dob or if he lived in Kirkwhelpington. There are some Bewicks mentioned in the registers, but none seem to be of an appropriate age. I can't find him in the censuses, though Mary appears as a lodging house keeper in the 41 census and her death is recorded in the parish registers for 1852 when her age is given as 70.
I'd be thrilled to hear from anyone with any suggestions.
Edwina
