Hanratty near newry, Ireland

Wendy
Thank you for the information about your Hanratty family from Drumintee, near Newry, Ireland.
I have checked ths place it is spelt correct and is a townland in County Armagh, in the Barony of Orior Upper, in the Parish of Killevy which was within the Poor Law Union of Newry.

Killevy is where I found the highest number of Hanratty names in a survey I did some years ago looking for townlands where Hanrattys came from. The above information should help you trace your great-grandmother Hanratty, through the birth certificate of your grandmother Bridget. If you can trace back to around the 1840-1850 period I would be interested if you find a Michael Hanratty b1807 estimated who maried a Nancy Flannagan b 1808 estimated they had a son John born in County Down and sons born in Liverpool, England between 1836-1852. My mother Marion Frances Hanratty, b 1909 died 1955 in Liverpool, is traced back to this Hanratty branch.

I note your family also had moved to Lancaster, which is about 50 miles north of Liverpool. In the 19th century Newry and Liverpool and Lancaster had sailing ships doing trade mainly in cattle and linen.

Anything you can share with me about your Hanratty branch appreciated. I have found no O'Hare surnames in my Hanratty branch.
Thanks for your input.
Frank

Hanratty near Newry Ireland

Hi I have an Hanratty connection, My great grandmother's maiden name was Hanratty I dont yet have her first name. She married an O'hare, my father once said they came from a place called Drumintee , Not sure if this is right or spelt correctly, its near Newry Northern Ireland anyway they had several children one of which was my Grandmother Bridget, she was born 1888, died 1939 aged 51 in Lancaster,North west of England. which is where they moved to from Ireland about 1900 could be later. I know some of the Hanratty's went to America and possibly the O'hares. Don't know if this is of any use, I'm at a bit of a dead end.

Liz
Thank you for your information on your Hanratty family. I don't think there is any connection to the Hanratty branch I am looking for. Can you tell me anything about your familiy's Irish origins. I am looking for a connection to County Down in the period 1807 - 1845 and then with Liverpool, England.
Regards
Frank Thomas
