I agree that this is all too coincidental for a town as small as Rushford. I think that what's important, at least to begin with, are the dates and physical features, since I think the boys last name was changed. My father and his brothers were placed in the "Rushford Home for Boys" between 1938 and 1940. My father described his grandmother as a, "short jewish woman". I don't know whether she was actually Jewish or not. My father's memories of his childhood were very hazy. Please tell me what other information you are looking for and if there is a more private way to pass along the information.

It is far too coincidental for all this to be happening in Rushford. Although none of the names you mention ring a bell with me, there must be some connection here.

Dear Joe,
After my grandfather died, my dad was raised in an orphanage near Rushford, NY. The story is rather convoluted, but here is what I was told. My dad, Harry Martin Clark, and his two brothers Ralph and Herman were being raised by their grandparents after their parents took off. My great-grandmother couldn't take care of the 3 boys alone, so she took them to an orphanage near Rushford, NY. Due to prejudice the boys last names were changed. Ralph's first name also may have been changed, it may have originally been John. None of the boys were adopted, instead they were kept together in a foster home. My grandmother remarried and had 10 children. She wrote to my father once, requesting money, while he was in the Navy. My father was so filled with pain and anger he never responded to her and threw the letter out. My father was born on October 1, 1930. If this sounds like it could be connected to your family please let me know.

Hello. You also have to consider the fact that there were some families in the 1920s and 30s that "americanized" their names to sound "less" ethnic. Yep. Thats what my Grandfather and aunts did. And it was more common than you think. That, and the fact that coming through the borders of the US as immigrants, the name got changed as well because of ignorance on the US immigration workers part. People had accents and weren't totaly understood. Try looking for BILLY as well. You might be surprised at what you find.

Hello-
I'm trying to find more information about my grandparents and their relatives in the Ukraine. They were both from Rivne. My grandfather's name was Jan Bialy, born in 1890. My grandmother's name was Rosalia Brzana, born in 1894. They both came through Ellis Island in 1910 and 1913 respectively. They eventually ended up in the Western New York area. I was told that Rosalia died at an early age and Jan remarried later. Jan lived a long life, ending up on a large dairy farm in Rushford, NY. He had many children, some of which were in an orphanage near Buffalo, NY for a short period of time.

We are looking for our aunt Zofie. We know she was born in Poland or Germany and if still alive would probably be in her 60's or 70's. She is probably living in Germany. We are unsure of the spelling of her first name. She has two brothers, Henry and Zbigniew, and a sister, Wladlyslawa. Unsure of spellings. The family was split up by the Nazis during WWII. Mother is deceased and was living in Germany. We believe her name was Josefa or something similar. The Polish spelling of the name Bialy is Biala, meaning "white" in Polish. Please e-mail with any info on her whereabouts. Thank you!
