thank you for your reply! we are trying to research the age of our home (est. 1867). the Bickelhaupts lived there just after the turn of the century. i've got the land deeds way back to the railroad purchasing it from the US Govt. - but that doesn't tell us how long a house has been standing on the land. we are looking for any clues as to the age of the house. and to answer your question about George.. i talked with a man who lived across the street from George (our house) and he said George and his wife moved back to IOWA to 'retire'... i don't know if this helps. please, let me know if you have further information!!!! thank you...

I've just begun researching my son's paternal line of Bickelhaupts. So far I have his great-grandfather Ivan Adair Bickelhaupt 1893-1964, great great grandfather William George Bickelhaupt who married Ida Emma Owen in 1887 and died in 1921, and William's father Peter B. Bickelhaupt who was married to Dortha (Dorothy) Weisel. Germany, Wisconsin, South Dakota, and Washington state links. I'd appreciate any and all leads, thank you!

I see that 2 of your Bickelhaupts were in Illinois. Could they be related to George Bickelhaupt, husband of my greataunt Lillie Menke and father of her older child Frieda Walz. these were all Quincy Il people.. I saw the names of George and Frieda on a headstone at the cemetary some years ago, but it took me a long time to find the connection because they seemed to be buried in the Menke section where I had been looking for my Menke ancestors. Now I know why they were there. Did all these Bickelhaupts come from the same place in Europe? Were they Catholic or Protestant? thanks for any help

I found out who George was, he was actually the first husband of my greataunt Lillie Menke, Frieda Walz was their daughter, there also was a son, probably after George died and Lillie remarried. I' m hoping someone can tell me his name, also full name of Frieda's husband.

in your family history do you by chance find a George Bickelhaupt in Quincy IL Born1866, age 14 in 1880 census, described only as "son" no parents name listed that I could see. Only other mention of George was Marriage to Elisabetha Stu(with umlaut) ssel in St. Louis MO june 10, 1960 Then I saw my near illegible notes from cemetary in Quincy giving dates of 1865-1897. I thought he might have been husband of one of the Menke women (my ancestors) Also the name Freda Walz 1892-1920 Most of my Quincy ancestors immigrated from area of Herford, Westfalia in early 1800's came up the Mississippi and prospered in lumber, stonemasonry and construction business.... He wouldn't be ra relative of your east coast or west coast branches of family but close enough to Iowa for connection I still don't know why he is listed in my notes since I now know that he wasn't husband of one of my grandma's sisters. Do you know who he was? If so I'd be interested in hearing about him, just to satisfy my own curiosity thanks

Glad you replied. My friend who I have been helping with her genealogy is Shirley Albright. Her grandmother was Ella Bickelhaupt who was a daughter of Philip. Ella married Harry Howell. They lived in that area at some time. Shirley lives in Kiro Ct., right outside of Silver Lake, Ks. I live in Topeka and you can calol me. I am in the telephone book. I will give you Shirley's phone and you then can call her. However, we will be gone the week of 8-18 thru 8-25 to do research in Iowa for the Bickelhaupts. I don't think we can help you on the age of your house, although Shirley may know someone who can. Call

Descendants of Lucretia and George Bickelhaupt

I am seeking the descendants of Lucretia(Schermerhorn)(b.11/15/1848, Hammond, St. Lawrence County, NY) and her husband Geoprge Bickelhaupt who moved to Washington state and had a large family. I am compiling Schermerhorn family history for the descendants of Alonzo Hendrick Schermerhorn, Lucretia's father, for an upcoming supplement to a family history written in 1914. I would like to include at least the information on George and Lucretia and thier children.

Vinton Bicklehaupt

I think Vinton is more likely to be George anbd Lucretia's grandson if he was born around 1903. I will add him to my search and get you the results as soon as I can. I'm an amateur but a determined one!

Bickelhaupts of Washington State around 1900

I have a blank page on the Bickelhaupts. I know that George B. married my great-great grandfather George Alonzo Schermerhorn's sister Lucretia. She was born in hammond, Saint Lawrence County, NY on 15NOV1848. She died 16DEC1904 in Washington State. Her surviving great-nieces in Hammond knew she went to WA- that's the only way I found her after she moved. There are many B.s on the West Coast and, because of the unusual name I am sure they are all related to Lucretia.
I would like to try to help more-My e-mail address is tr1957@earthlink.net.

Please go to Ancestry.com and look for my "Schermerhorns of Saint Lawrence County" family tree or search for Lucretia Schermerhorn. I just received a wealth of information, researched more and I'm not done yet!
