Classification: Query
Surnames: bickers & allied families
I have been visiting many sites - I am concerned about erroneous info being given online. My own mother's middle name was given wrong but I cleared that up - some of the other stuff will be harder. I tried to correct someone's posting of Uriah marrying his sister, but that site did not respond. I found several children whose father was listed as Andrew L when it was really Arthur L. son of Arthur B., descendants of Lewis Bickers. Arthur B. was in a letter from his father in 1907 and Arthur L plainly shows up on appropriate censuses. Please check your info against census records, etc. Take the time to go to a library, at least. My dad had a 'little' genealogy written by James Madison Bickers, 5th Gen, based on correspondence with people in 1907 and it fitted hand-in-glove with the history on file in the VA Archives, except he thought Salinas & Williamson Co., IL, was Sevier & Williamson Co., TN. He, like me, was a descendant of Benjamin Carty Bickers. PLEASE BE CAREFUL, if you don't have it documented, at least say so. If it is your family and you know information first hand, please say so. There is so much out 'there' and it's not all true. If you want to be on my newsletter list, with research results gleaned from correspondence, visits to libraries, etc., please let me know. They are 10 pages long and I try to put them out monthly. I can send it on internet. If I get it off the internet, I will so say. I just don't know yet if my footnotes for sources also copy to email. I use WordPerfect - just updated to #11.
