Hi Marc, I believe Richard was my grandmothers (Olive Bickle) oldest brother. I've also heard the stories about her father and his brother travelling from Devon to Seaham to work in the mines.
If I can help in your search in anyway let me know.
penny
Janna, thanks for the query. I don't have any information related to Andrew Jackson Smith. As for Martha Elizabeth Armontrout Bickle, I have a little info on her as follows: Parents were Joseph Anderson Armontrout, b. ca 1834 in Warren Co., VA, d. in TX and Sarah Young, b. ca 1836 in MO, d. in TX; both are buried at the Osage Cemetery outside of Osage, Coryell, TX. Joe's father was John Armontrout, b. ca 1808 in Mercer Co., VA, wife Unknown at this time. Children of Joe & Sarah Armontrout were: Emilie, b. 1857 TX; Sarah, b. 1859 TX; Susan, b. 1861 TX; Georgia, b. 1864 TX; & Martha, b. 2 Mar 1867 TX. These chn were all listed on the 1870 census for McLennan Co., TX. If there were other chn, I'm not aware of them at this time. Martha E. & A. "Jack" Smith are buried at the I.O.W.F. cemetery in Hamilton, Hamilton, TX. Martha's first husband, Thomas Marshall Bickle, is buried at the McGirk Cemetery in Hamilton Co., TX. Thomas & Martha E. Bickle were my husband's great-grandparents. Do you have Andrew J. Smith's DOB & location and his parent's names? Thanks. Vickie

I found a marriage record of Sarah P. Bickle in Spencer Co. IN on 11 July 1886 to Samuel Jones. This was transcribed by another person. I'm hoping someone can tell me if this name is Jones or Janes? My Samuel Janes is hard to find because of the way the name gets transcribed. He was in Spencer Co. and would have been about 30 years old in 1888.

Jacob Bickle, Sr

Jacob Bickle appears in Hampshire Co, VA around 1765, after that he appears in Randolph Co, VA/WV having property on Shavers Mt. From records I have it appears he married a lady by the name of Margaret, no maiden name found yet. I am looking for clues as to who this lady is. One source says she is a Margaret Coger/Cogar/Cowger but so far nothing has been found to verify this. Jacob Bickle died abt 1804 in Randolph. Most of his family migrated to the Gallia/Meigs Co., OH area right after 1800. Has anyone come across a Jacob marrying a Margaret around the 1770 time period? Thank you in advance.

Sharon

to Pat Bridges

Hi Pat,

I am researching Jebus for a fried of mine with no computer. Jebus was on his mothers side, but although he has some artefacts from that time, he is unable to trace right back. jebus could have been his grear great grandfather, or uncle.

I have Jebus as being born in St. Mewan or St. Austell in about1822. He married Catherine Barangwanath from Padstow in around 1847. As far as I can tell they moved to St. Erth lived at Foundry Hill and had Henrietta b 1848 Catherine b 1850 Jabus/or Jebu b1853 and Thomas Edwin b 1858. so far I have traced Jabus marrying Catherine Trenery on 28/12/1876. They had Christie, Jebus, Dorothy, Henrietta, Catherine, Thomas and William. (no dates as of yet.) Some of the dates/names may be suspect as well as they were not all drawn from Census. Jebus Snr was buried at St. Erth Cornwall 11th Feb 1902 aged 80. Catherine was buried on the 17th September 1908 aged 79 and Henrietta (who appeared to be a spinster) was buried in the same year on the 14th Nov aged 59. Hope this is of hel[p. Please e mail me if you have any more information on Jebus and his line, especially of you know who his parents were. Sonya.

I doubt your bickel and my bickle are related, as the spelling is different, although there is a Joseph Henry bickle around in the 1871 census.

I have since discovered my james was born in 1880, in maristowe devon, and worked at the Consols Mine

Best wishes in your search

Sue

His mother was Caroline Thomazin Bickle Thomas who emigrated from Hayle, Cornwall, in 1856. Since the name cannot be that common, there has to be a relation somewhere.

The good news is I now know George had a brother named Jacob! Thanks again Sharon!

Mary Bickle (Bickel?)

I am seeking information on Mary Bickle, born 16 August 1808 in England. She married Samuel Bridge (born 28 January 1797 in England) in Garland, Maine, in 1830. They had four children who lived to adulthood (all born in Maine): Albina (married name: Campbell), Sarah J. (married name: Barnes), James Louis/Lewis (married Gertrude Maria Cochran/Cockran), and George Wellington. The family moved to Oshkosh, Winnebago Co., Wisconsin in 1846. Samuel Bridge died in Oshkosh on 12 October 1869; Mary Bridge died 7 October 1878. They are both buried in Riverside Cemetery, Oshkosh.

I am particularly interested in any parental leads for any Mary Bickles born on this date; I would also like to figure out where her family lived in England. I would be most appreciative if anyone else researching a Mary Bickle of this background would contact me on or off the list. Thanks.

Bickle who married Riley Ikemire in Holmes Co., OH.

Is this the same man who wrote a will in Owen Co., IN signed on 13 Jun 1891?

The will mentions, wife Sarah, daughter Catherine Nauglebaugh and step daughter Mary E. Storm. Also mentioned is a David A Storm, no relationship given.

Martha Bickel/Bickle / James Sharkey

I am trying to find my Bickel/Bickle ancestors.

I have recently learned that my ggrandmother Martha Bickel was born somewhere in OH approx 1847of German parents. I think she died 1891 at the age of 44 and is buried in Sidney Cemetery, Sidney MI.

Martha married James Sharkey also born in OH. From info that I have been given they went from OH (possibly Ottawa County OH) to Ottawa County MI. Then sometime after 1876 went to Clear Creek Marion KS with their 3 children Noah, Francis (Frank) and Alice where another son, Albert was born 1880. Then sometime after that they went back to MI, I assume Montcalm County MI where another son, Nelson was born Day Twp 1881 and died at the age of 1year and 2 days 1882. There was another child, Cora Anna ( my grandmother) born in Sidney MI Montcalm Co.

I also discovered they may have had a son (their first born) George Anderson Sharkey who was born OHIO and died April of 1869 in Ottawa Co MI.

Have a family photo that my mother wrote 'The Bickel Family Cora Sharkey Walker's mother's family'. There are 4 girls and 1 boy with their parents.

Hoping someone out there can help me.

Note my e-mail address has change:
phall225@verizon.net

Patti

JB's mother was Caroline Bickle who married George Thomas and emigrated in 1856 from Hayle, Cornwall, to Savannah, Ga. We have been trying to figure out whether Caroline was your Jebus's aunt or something. Her parents were Thomas and Mary Bickle from Hayle. WE have received the write-ups about the Bickles in Cornwall and the engineering work they performed, but it doesn't mention any daughters of Thomas.
