Well? Where do i start ?

I trying to trace my Dads side of the family and i really have no idea where to start.

My father is from the Bredbury area of stockport b: 1948 and his father is believed to have originated from the midlands area(birmingham) but brought up to manchester in ???? by his mother & father.

I believe that his father was a painter and decorator? (MY GREAT GRANDFATHER)

I believed my grandfather was eventually orphend? Don't know why? But he had family who raised him in dukinfield and he also had conections with torquay, (poss a hotel.) Its also possible he had cousins/relatives in America. My Grandad died in 1982.

I believe he might have had several sisters and I'm unsure re a brother. But they all might have had a connection with either stalybridge & dukinfield area of tameside.

How's best to start? Can u help? Pointers?
