I certainly hope you pursue your Virginia roots because they are just as valuable as those from the Mayflower. In fact, the Virginia roots precede those of Massachusetts.

On the Banks of the Rappahannock, will be published by Aug. 1. The main characters in the book are the Glascocks beginning with Thomas in 1699 in Indian Banks, North Farnham Parish, Old Rappahannock Co., Virginia. It takes the reader from 1699 to 1783 at the conclusion of the Revolution, showing all the Glascocks who served in the War. The Glascocks are traced as they left for Fauquier Co., VA, North Carolina and Georgia, where they were the most decorated of the military Glascocks. The book is at the publisher - will be available by Aug. 1, 280 pages, fully-indexed, with over 100 sources. As a professional genealogist who has authored nine other books, I used the best sources to make sure the book was accurate in persons, dates and relationships, making this an accurate history of the Glascock family.

Here is a summary of the book. John Harding Peach

This historical novel will travel through the colonial days of the south beginning in 1699 and culminating in 1783 with the struggles of the Revolution. Three U. S. Presidents have ties to the historical characters in this book – George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Abraham Lincoln. Mary Ball, mother of the 1st president, is one of the main personalities highlighted. Nancy Hanks, mother of the 16th president, was probably the illegitimate daughter of one of this book’s characters.
Thomas Jefferson and his family play a vital role in this historical novel. The main characters of this book will be lesser known but just as significant. These will be the Peacheys, the Glascocks, the Griffins, the Bertrands, the Balls, the McCartys, the Carters, and the Tayloes - all popular names in the eighteenth century on the Northern Neck of Virginia.
Others featured are the Walkers and the Gilmers, especially Dr. Thomas Walker, who first discovered Kentucky for the white man. His close ties to President Thomas Jefferson helped promote the formation of the Louisiana Purchase, which doubled the size of the United States. Rev. St. John Shropshire and his descendants are highlighted with their ties to the Peach family of South Carolina.
This narrative starts during the early development of the Northern Neck of Virginia on the banks of the Rappahannock. With this as its beginning, the book takes its readers back to the immigrant ancestors of its main characters and then carries them forward to future generations. Many of the personalities in this book will be portrayed as they helped fight for the independence of the United States from England and formulate the new nation.

Hi John,

Thanks for your comment.
I was originally interested in the Virginia Biddlecombes because my Grandmother told me there was a family story that an ancestor had sailed on The Mayflower. I could not verify this although one Biddlecombe witnessed the will of James Ludlowe who said he owned a one fifteenth share of the ship Mayflower. I guess this was a different Mayflower. I was unable to find any record of where this Biddlecombe came from in England. So my research here has stopped and I have not been able to prove any connection with my family and Mary Biddlecombe.

Has your book been published yet? If so, please let me have the details and I will see if I can purchase a copy.

Best wishes.
Bob

Bob, I am impressed with your research and verification of Mary Biddlecombe, who married James Tarpley and Samuel Peachey. You might be interested that I just wrote a historical novel about the colonial Virginians of 1699 to 1783. The main characters included the Samuel Peachey to whom you refer. Your Mary played a minor role as well. Let me know if you want to compare notes. John H. Peach

Hi, Your mother-in-law, Lorraine, was my first cousin. Aunt Doll, as she was called, was my aunt. My daughter Eva is doing research on the family for her children and that is how I got here. My email is Arborrita@comcast.net. Have you found out anything else. Eva told me there is someone who knows Aunt Agnes also doing research. I always thought Christian was Christopher. I know Aunt Doll traced him to Austrailia and he had two daughters. That is about all I know. Uncle George married Ruby and I only saw him once in my life, when he came for a visit from California. I also remember seeing my father's stepmother when I was a young child.

Rita

Well, hello. I've been researching the Biddlecombe side of my husbands family for a long time. Lizzie (Elizabeth the mother), came over to America with her son, Fred Leeson age 5. She met & married Charles C Biddlecombe on Staten Island. NY. They resided in Brooklyn NY. Liz died, I believe in childbirth, after Christian was born. Charles remarried and his 2nd wife was not too kind. She made the children leave the household in their early teens. Christian was sent to live with relatives aboard and Agnes to Charles (the father) oldest brother George in PA. Sarah Dorothy Biddlecombe was my husbands grandmother.

Charles C Biddlecombe and Elizabeth had several children: Agnes, Christopher, Charles (my grandfather), George, Elizabeth, Dorothy and Francis. After Elizabeth died I know that atleast one of the children were sent to England and I think the last name was Leeson. George Biddlecombe changed his name to Leeson and resided in California. I am also looking for background on this family.

I am helping someone research their family tree and I wondered if anyone could help.
I have William Biddlecombe marrying Alice Elizabeth Collins in 1897 (aged 23) in Lambeth Surrey and Harry Francis Biddlecombe (aged 28) marrying Emma collins in 1893 in Kennington, London. They both put Daniel Biddlecombe as the father. I can't find anything in the census to match this. There is William and Ann Biddlecombe with children of that name but no Daniels.

Greetings from Indianapolis. As long as my research is correct, I believe this line is true:

My name is Brent Biddlecombe.
My father was Boyd Ivan Biddlecombe (1938 to 2004)
Boyd's father was William Lloyd Biddlecombe (1895 to 1962)
Wm's father was Walter Harry Biddlecombe (1867 to 1970)
Walter's father Henry Biddlecombe (1836 to ? )
Henry's father Samuel Biddlecombe (1815 - 1912)
Samuels' father William Biddlecombe (1777 to 1853)
Wm's father Samuel Biddlecombe (1739 to 1825)
Samuel's father Richard Biddlecombe (1709 - ?)
.... and that is as far back as I have gotten.
So Walter Harry Biddlecombe is my Great Grandfather. I remember seeing a clipping in the newspaper about him when I was a young child - someone did a story about him celebrating his 102 birthday!
So how are you tied to Walter?
I'm trying to track down when we came over from England - I agree with you that Henry was born in England, but something showed he held a job in Detroit, MI. Not 100% sure on that one.
Good to talk with other Biddlecombe's! There does not seem to be many of us left out there!

Brent

Re: Lydia Biddlecomb/e

Hello,

James Biddlecombe born about 1671 in Old Rappahannock co, VA died in 1716 in Richmond Co, VA. He married Elizabeth Kirk.

His sister, Mary Brassieur Biddlecombe married James Tarpley and married a second time to Samuel Peachey. Her will dated 1713 left half of the residue of the estate to be divided equally between James Biddlecomb's children and her daughter Eliz. Jones's children. (The other half went to her other daughter Mary Tarpley and her Tarpley grandchildren.)

So this shows that James Biddlecombe had more than one child and it could be that it is one of these children that you are looking for.

According to a 1689 document the father of James was also James Bedlecomb who had 5 children. Only two were surviving by 1689 and the land was split between them. James B got 200 acres of "land upon the branches of Totaskey" and James Tarpley who married the daughter got 250 acres upon Farnham Creek. The fathers widow was to live with the Tarpleys.

Hope this helps,

Bob Waters
(my grandmother was Annie Biddlecombe of Sussex, England.

Biddlecombe, Charles C, wife Elizabeth or Bessie Hillier

Located Charles C Biddlecombe (b 1869) at age 12 living in "The New Orphan Houses" Ashley Down, Sunderland, Durham, England. Can anyone tell me anything on the orphanage? Trying to find out 'why' Charles was in an orphange, etc. but can't locate the orphanage in England. Suggestions? Charles immigrated to the US around 1895ish and married Elizabeth Hillier in 1897 on Staten Island NY. They resided in the NYC boroughs. Elizabeth is also from England, London I believe. She died in childbirth around 1904. Child was Christian/Christopher Biddlecombe. The story is that a relative from England by the name of Gleeson(or Gleason...not sure of spelling) came to USA and brought Chris back to England and then they immigrated to Australia. The family later tried to locate him but were unable to...perhaps with todays technolody I can do this for the family.

I can only find Walter Harry Biddlecombe whose birth was registered at Bethnal Green, London during the quarter to March 1867. The birth certificate would give details of his parents but in 1871 the census for Romford, Essex shows he was living with Henry his father, and Sarah Matilda (Dodwell), his mother, and his sister Annie Amelia.

He was still living with them in 1881, in Ipswich and by then he had two brothers Percy and Fred.

Henry seems to have been born in Christchurch, Hampshire, in 1837.

This Biddlecombe does not seem to be related to any of mine.
Sorry

Bob Waters

I would love to connect with anyone who has Walter Henry Biddlecombe on their family tree. He was born in 1867, most likely in England and he died in March of 1970 in Indianapolis, IN. His father appears to be Henry Biddlecombe who was born in 1837 in England. I would love any additional information on these two gentlemen so I can continue working on this family line. Thanks in advance to everyone.

I came across your message and wondered if this information is of help. I have a photograph taken of a headstone at the cemetery on Norfolk Island of a Thomas E Biddlecombe - it reads late of HMS Falcon who departed this life on the 19th January 1867 aged 28 years. I knew this surname from my family history (my great grandmother was Betsy Biddlecombe born 1824/25 Bothenhampton, Dorset, England who married Benjamin Swaffield on 7.8.1845 Bridport)

Hi Wendy. My sister's name is Wendy, she is now 52. She lives in B.C., I moved to Ontario in 1977. My mother's name was Muriel Eleanor Geddes, nee Biddlecombe. Her mother was Elizabeth Florence May Stephens. My mother was born in 1914, her father was Frank Biddlecombe. After the war he left my grandmother and started a new life. A few years ago I found his death information, noting he died in Kimberley, B.C, in 1950 I believe he was a boiler maker/worker. While looking up Padbury, where I knew he was born, I noted your thread. Perhaps you knew he was married before, perhaps you did not.
My grandmother, EFMS, was Nisga'a.
Hello all - I'm trying to unlock for marital grandfathers line. My father in law is Philip Francis Biddlecombe 1945 Shrewsbury and his father was Henry Deveraux G Biddlecombe born Cardiff 1914. I can't get any further back than this with family records and memories, although Henry's (aka Dev)widow Margaret Mary nee Beesty (aka Peggy) is still with us.
Henry had two brothers Leonard (Cardiff 1920) and Kenneth (?) Family lore says that Henry's mather was Mabel Holder, but we also have Hart as a possibility.
If anyone thinks they might have a lead please help.
Kind regards

Hello Rosemary, what a wonderful letter you have discovered. Of course Aunt Charlette never had children of her own. She was married to Charles Morris who had a brother Thomas who also journeyed to Australia with his wife Elizabeth. Their eldest son was a Walter, probably named for their grandfather. Could this younger Walter be the name referred to in the letter? I am descended from Richard, son of Ann Morris, sister of Thomas and Charles. Feel free to email me direct at lmorris@smh.com.au and I can refer to you my work in progress on the biddlecombe and Morrises if required.
Autumn 2005 whilst visiting an elderly aunt I came across a letter written 15th June 1880 which had been forwarded to my gg/ father Walter Morris who at the was lodging in Deal/Kent.On the envelope was written 'Aunt Charlotte's letter'
'Aunt Charlotte' nee Biddlecombe gave her address as " Evergreen Cottage,Byron Street,Inverell,NSW, Australia.I don't have the original envelope but the postmark on the forwarding envelope is London S.W
She mentions her sister Elizabeth and husband, Sarah and husband as all being well.
Someone had sent her a photo of her brother Tom and she thought he looked a great deal younger than he used to!
She mentions a Richard and wife who have bought livestock and who have two pretty little children -a boy and a girl.
She mentions too a niece in Australia who was coming home to marry a Walter after seeing his photo in Charlotte's album!
It wasn't my gg/ father that I know ,tho' he himself married in 1882.......so, who was this Walter?!!!
She signs the letter C C Morris.

From the NSW web I found the deaths of Charlotte's 3 sons and from this, I was under the impression her hsb was called Walter but I see on this thread he is Charles.( could the C C Morris therefore their intials?)

Can you clarify for me please?

Rosemary
