Vanessa, I have more on the Biermans (EJ and my grandpa must have been great friends). You have a picture of EJ's grave. May I ask what cemetery? Next time I'm in Centralia, I'd like to visit. Thank you -- Patti

I just double checked and the deed was to William, not Edward. The William Bierman's are a couple of names away from who I believe may be the brother to my granddad, on the 1900 census. Not sure if they are related to EJ and Albert, tho probably. Well...maybe you can help, or anyone reading these notes! Thanks.

Vanessa do you have pictures of any of John and Louise's children? I'm trying to piece together my grandfather's family. He was born in Centralia in 1883, and just yesterday unearthed a deed that he had sold their farm to Edward (J) Bierman in 1905. I have a few pictures which I now believe to possibly be Edward and his brother Albert -- who seemed to be very good friends with my grandpa, Fred Mayer, as I also have postcards from these friends from the early 1900's. I would be grateful to finally identify these faces. I've attached one part of a picture of who I believe to be either Edward or Albert in a 'mock' tough guy pose. lol! Thanks. ~ Patti

My great-great grandmothers sister married a Bierman from Milwaukee. Her name was Augusta Joch. All photos of him simply say Uncle Bierman but I believe they had children named Irma, Charles, Richard and Walter (based on writing on photos) Augusta and Uncle Bierman would have been married in the 1870's of 1880's.

Herman, according to the 1900 census became a naturalized citizen in 1870.
Biermanns in St. Louis

Hello, I am looking for any decendents of some Biermanns who came to St. Louis. Name followed by year of arrival. Franz 1903, 1909 (It appears he came to St. Louis then returned to Germany to bring a brother to the U.S.), Fritz 1909, Theodore 1910 (I am not positive but I believe he died in St. Louis in 1964), Heinrich 1911, Josephine 1911. These siblings had a brother Wilhelm who is my great-grandfather who came to St. Louis in 1904. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Chris

Hi Angela --

There is one older picture of "Grandma Mason" taken abt 1891 in Ohio - that might be the oldest one. Though the picture has some writing on the back that includes the location of Seattle, WA. I've attached that one to this message.

Other pictures are from about the 1940's and 1950's and are labeled as:

"Ted's sister, Dorothy Own, 1942"
"Ted Owen, 1939" - In a Navy uniform. He looks quite young.
"Joan & Ted 10-46 Forest Hills, N.Y."
"Ted & Julia Biermann 10-46 My Mom & Dad"
"Joan & Doris - Sisters! 10-46"
"Ted & Clyde Owen, Oakland, CA 1947 - Dad & brother."

There are pictures of cousins who live in Ft. Wayne & Bay Shore, N.Y. along with: "Ted's grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Mason, 1915" and "Mr. & Mrs. Schuett, Ted's Maternal Grandparents, 1923"

The album itself is older - perhaps late 1800's to early 1900's. It appears to have been a gift, "Presented to Patricia Joy Ownen by Mom & Dad Own, 1982."

Let me know if you would like more information :-)

Sue sug53@earthlink.net

Hi - I found a photo album in an antique store (Olympia, WA) today that belonged to the Owen's family. Surnames include: Mason, Biermann and Schuett. There are a small variety of pictures in this old album ranging from more current (1950s) to pictures taken probably mid 1800s. I'd be happy to share this information with extended family members. Thanks, Sue sug53@earthlink.net
Hi im Kenny Biermann and thru some long way around Im almost sure im related. I live here in st.louis area and have got alot of things saved on the Biermanns. Im almost sure that you or related to the Biermanns that own the Biermann market in Ofallon mo. I think your john was the son of Henry and Catherine Biermann they lived in north st.louis, i think henry was my great great grandfathers brother William. There was a Stedman Biermann that just passed away last year he was in his 90s he sure seems to fit. Kenny

Biermann/Britt/WilliamsStedman in St. Louis

Hello,
My great great grandfather was John Henry Biermann born 1839 in Prussia Germany, his wife was Frances Sara Britt born 1843 in England. They were married in Dec. 1860. They resided in St. Louis as did their son Oscar Ernst Biermann(born 1875). Oscar married Bertha Addie Williams(born 1872) on May 28, 1902. Bertha's parents were Amos Fox Williams(1831 Ohio-he was a doctor) and Mary Jane Virginia Stedman(1832 Virginia?). I believe I have alittle more information about all of this family but would like to hear from others to compare information etc. I would like to know who John Henry Biermann's parents were and who Mary Jane Virginia Stedman's parents were too. Any information would be very very appreciated. Email me at jesseteri@comwares.net

Re: Meaning of the Surname Biermann

Sascha: my cousin's family history traces our family to Arnsberg Germany. My great grandfather Richard Biermann emigrated to the Dutch Indies and became a Dutch Citizen. My grandfather ran a sugar plantation in Indonesia and had four sons, Richard (who died young), Chris (who died during WWII), Hans and my Dad, Dolf. After the war Uncle Hans returned to the Netherlands where he and my Dad had gone to school. As a Dutch Marine, my Dad met my mother in the U.S. and eventually became a U.S. Citizen. He gave me his ring with a family crest on it that includes three trees in one of the fields. He thinks that they are pear trees. Bider is the word for pear in German. My Dad thinks that along the way, the d got dropped and Bidermann became Biermann. Of course, my cousins in Holland think that as Bier Men they are nephews of a fellow named Heinikan. Living in Golden Colorado, my son's soccer team mates call him Beer Man and ask if he is related to a fellow named Coors.
