We are related: like this I think.
Charles Gilbert Wood is the older brother of my GGGGrandmother Ada Louisa Wood. She was the youngest daughter of Francis William Wood and Amelia A.M.I have traced the family back to Francis William Wood's parents: Samuel Turner Wood and Maria Woodley Bigg. But no further either.
The eldest son Francis Edward was born in Hungary in 1846 and the eldest daughter Amelia was born in Prussia in 1849 but the other children: Maria E, Henry, Charles and Ada are all born in England.
Francis William Wood was a jeweller in the 1851 census, but what were they up to in Europe?
Amelia A.M. re-marries a Richard Tarraway and are living in Jersey in 1861 and then move to Cardiganshire in the 1871 census. No idea why. I've not heard of the link between Phillipp's of Aberglasney?
Francis Edward the eldest didn't move to Wales.
Charles Gilbert's sister, Ada marries Joshua Harries and had 10 children. One being Joshua Harries my Great Grandad. His son also called Joshua was given the middle name Wood! He was my Grandad! So the Wood name continued until his death.
I don't suppose you have any photographs of Charles Gilbert. I don't have any I'm afraid of this side of my family.
I live near Aberystwyth, where are you?
The younger brother of my Grandad is still alive and lives in Cwrtnewydd. He remembers his Mamgu and Dadcu (Ada and Joshua Harries).
Look forward to your reply.
PS. had a post from a relative of Ada and Charles's older brother Francis Edward who is related to us in the same way!!!
