Huge Biggar of Monroe, LA (posted 3/5/2000) stated his great greatfather was John Russell Biggar of Bastrop, LA. I have a Great grandfather John R Biggar who lived in New Orleans, born @ 1838 where ? and died 2/5/1890 in New Orleans and married Harriet Ricketts DOD 3/8/1901 in New Orleans. Could this be the same family? They had at least 4 children born in New Orleans. Did they possibly have a son, Nathaniel, who married Hazel Laura Graner? If so, I have the rest of the family down to me, but not before John R. Biggar. Thank you

Hi Guys, iam currently biulding our family tree in Durban ,South Africa ,i have found George Biggar ,James Biggar and Sophia Biggar born in the 1835-1839 era in Durban

James and George were taken care of by Dick Kings' family when Alexander and Robert died in 1838. Sophia Biggar moved to the Wascbank area in Biggarsberg with the Boers(Voortrekkers), as you know Alexander Biggar fought in the Battle of Blood River and had a close relationship with Carel Landman who also settled in Biggarsberg after the 1842 conflict with the English In Port Natal (Durban)

I will post family tree in due course, and yes its a family of mix descent, a veritable rainbow.

Thanks
Troy Meyers 0834452999
Thank-you for info on John Dunn. The more I find out the more I'm certain to never really have a family tree.....way to complex.
Some of my great aunt from south africa changed the facts around to make it all the more difficult to trace.
For example only one aunt told me Natalia's parent were not married due to religious differences.(whatever that means) But I do know her surname was either, Mason-Biggar or Emerson-Biggar. I know that Natalia was a piano teacher and they lived in a few spots. I have many photos....some of them dating back to the first photo studios in Natal.

Carol:

As a child I lived in Dundas, Ontario. There was a large family of Biggars living in Dundas at that time. I don't know if there are still some of them there, but it is quite possible.

I remember going to school in the early 1950's to mid-60's with a girl named Ann Biggar. If memory serves me correctly they lived on Creighton Road in Dundas. I also believe there is a street called "Biggar Ave." in Dundas.

Judy

I came across your message regarding the BIGGAR family. Do you know if he had any relatives in the Oakville, Niagara area. I have done an extensive search of the BIGGAR name in Ontario. I looked up the information for every BIGGAR record of birth, death and marriage in the Ontario Archives.
If you can give me a bit more information, I might be able to find something about his family.
Did he marry a Dobson woman in Canada?? - Ontario, NB, PEI??
There are BIGGARs in Oakville, Niagara, Simcoe, London, Brantford, Owen Sound, Elora etc.
What was your grandfather's name?? Where/ when was he born?? Who did he marry.
I would be happy to share information with you.
Carol Ellis
Burlington, ON

news article - Walter Biggar of Dalbeattie, Scotland, 1946

This scrap of a news article was on the back of my in-laws wedding announcement. The newspaper was from Grant Co., KY and was printed in Nov or Dec 1946. The top half of the article is missing. [I know nothing else about this article, not even why there's a comma between Walter and Biggar.]

Walter, Biggar, internationally known cattleman and judge, of Dalbeattie, Scotland, has been named to judge all of the individual steer classes at this year's show. It will be the 13th time since 1920 that Biggar has officiated in this capacity.
The famous International Horse Shows are planned as a daily entertainment feature.

My dad was Thomas Morton Biggar and we resided in Old Forge, PA. My dad's father was Walter Biggar and his parents were John Biggar and Elizabeth Morton. They were both from Glencairn, Dumfries, Scotland and came to America. They married on 12-24-1872 in Pleasant Valley, Luzerne county, PA. Pleasant Valley became Avoca. They both died in Avoca, PA. I have done extensive research on the Biggar Family when I was living in England and I am curious as to who Evelyn and Dorothy Biggar could be.

Pat...
My daughter posted the request for info some time ago but I have the data on my computer.
I know how heart stopping a new connection to ones family tree can be so with crossed fingers I relay this information:
Thomas Biggar, born Unknown, married Sophia Chalmers, born Unknown, in September 23, 1843 in Glasgow, Scotland.
They had a daughter Janet Biggar, born October 6, 1865 in Glasgow, Scotland and died February 21, 1945 in Staten Island, NY. The only other information that I have is that Thomas Biggar had two brothers: Alexander, born abt. 1844 in Scotland and James Biggar born unknown. My dad, Clarence William Bigger, who is now 90, told me that his Canadian relatives spelled their name Biggar. I know that Percy had siblings Charles and Queenie. Hazel French and Glover were cousins. Percy's mom was Lillie Wright, I believe. Do these names sound familiar? I'm looking for any info I can find. Thank you.

Rose,
I am sorry I was so slow to reply to your query about Robert Biggar and Mary Lauder's family. I had a computer failure and was unable to assemble the information that I thought I had until I could get a back up copy from my sister. We kept this information not because of the relationship with our Biggar/Bigger family but because the Rev. Hamilton Biggar officiated at so many of our families weddings in the Brantford area. I'm sure the relationship exist but it must predate my family leaving Scotland for Ireland in the Coventeer era of the 1630s. I know I have additional paper files of this family that I received from a now deceased cousin named James Dove. I will continue to search for those records. If you wish to contact me I will be glad to send you all the information that I have.
Dale Biggar
Aplinthblock@aol.com
