Hi Trisha,
Sorry I haven't gotten back to you. This came through on my work e-mail so all of my info is at home on my personal computer.
I used to be Dolores's sister-in-law. I was married to her twin brother.
Are you Kirk's daughter? I would really like to have all of the kids names and birthdates for my family tree. I haven't seen any of them for years. Would like Kirk's kids names and also Threasa, Lori, Tina, and Kathy's children also.
As far as the two brothers of Felix goes, there was a Ramon and a Sabino. As the story goes, the three of them had a falling out and Ramon went back to Spain. Sabino drove off into the Sacramento River and died. I have the dates about that on my computer at home. He was never married. As far as Ramon goes, your Great-Grandmother, Elizabeth, contacted him through an attorney when Sabino died. As far as I know,I have no idea if anyone else has had any contact with him or any of his family since then.
I hope to hear from you. And, may I say, It was fun hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Betty
Hi Betty,

My grandma is Dolores Chloe (Bilbao) Hammons. Her dad is Felix, she lives in Gridley and took care of my grandpa up until he passed away.
I got to see him a handful of times as a kid, he couldn't speak hardly any English, but seemed to love us being there.

Thanks,
Trisha

The names you gave don't fit with my ancestry - however i don't have much info on the Bilbao side of the family. I'll tell you what I know in general. Bilbao is a city in the north of Spain very near the French border in the Basque part of Spain.

The Basque's (like the Irish) are very clanish.
My grandmother was born in Busturia in the provence of Vizcaya in Spain. Her father was Ignacio Bilbao - born in the town of Gamiz in the provence of Vizcaya as well. Very often when someone who was born in one place, moved to another he was called by the place he came from - that is "Ignacio of Bilbao" became Ignacio Bilbao.

If your family was Catholic - the churches have excellent records in Spain (acutally anywhere in world if you're Catholic the church kept better records than most cities).

If I were you, I would start searching census records backwards from 1920 to 1910 and so on - looking for both Bilbao and Lopez or even a hyphenated Bilbao-Lopez.

Also there is a website for Ellis Island which you can search for ancestors arrivals on ships.

It might help if you know if your ancestors were of Basque decent. And also were they seaman?
I don't know if they are related. Teresa Bilbao was born in 1878 in Spain and came to USA in 1908. Someone born in 1907 would be the next generation down.

She did have a brother Fernando and a sister Delores that I know of. Do you know what Francisco's father's name was? If it was Fernando there might be a connection.

For a school reunion, we are looking for LORETTA BILBAO. She may have had originaly, or taken as a Confirmation name, the middle name 'Bernadette'. Bilbao was her maiden name. We do not know if she's married. She graduated from Immaculate Conception Elementary School in Jamaica, Queens, New York City, on Feb.1st,1948. Thus, she was born in the mid-1930s and now she would be in her mid-60s. Another classmate believes she MAY have (or the family may have) come from Pennsylvania (perhaps the Scranton area).
