Henry H Bilberry headstone

I recently visited the gravesite of HH Bilberry in Mason County, TX. The folks that own the land now and neighbors with "kin" buried at the same place remember his tombstone and say it was in excellent condition.

About 10 to 15 years ago some folks were shown the grave and shortly thereafter HH's and a Bilbrey headstone were removed by "unknowns."

If anyone has seen these, PLEASE, let's get them back where they belong. I will come and get them and take them if needed.

Thank you.

Ted Bilberry

John Crouch Bilberry-Proof of his father???

Does anyone have a bible record, marriage record or other record to prove who John Crouch Bilberry's father was. I have seen it listed as John (Catherine) and Herrod Bilberry, but there seems to be a difference of opinion who his father is.
Nancy

My records are different from some of this. I show John Crouch Bilberry is the son of Herrod and Martha Patsy Cannon. There was more than one John C Bilberry. I know of several other records that show John Crouch Bilberry father is also Herrod. I am not sure which other records show his father as Herrod.
Some records came from the old Bilberry message board, maybe Billy Carr's records. I can't find any records that prove that John C. Bilberry's father was John or if he was Herrod. I do know for sure that John Crouch married third to my Elizabeth Jane Walker-Wilson in 1870.
I know that there was a John and Catherine in Travis County, Texas, but I think John C. was married before the census that I saw John and "Catherine" . I need to check records again to see.
These Bilberry/Bilbrey's are confusing sometimes.
Nancy
nhough22@gmail.com

I believe if my memory serves me correctly it is a pension application that states Esau Bilberry served with Ishmael Copeland. I'll get back with you when I have located it and I will be more than happy to send to you.

Thank you sooooooo much. This is just the information I have been searching for. When George divorced Martha Ann to marry Martha Burkett, I think it caused a big scandal (of course it would have in the 1870's). Rumor has it that John Davis would take off to Mobile but no one knew where and to whom he went to see. George and Martha Ann were married long enough to have children but I don't know if they did or not. George ran off to Mississippi with Martha Burkett and lived in "sin" with her until the divorce and then they came back. She was pregnant with my Great Grandmother Emma Nita. Emma Nita married William Blackburn thus my Grandmother was born, Lillie Agnes Blackburn who married Claude Davis son of John Garret Davis son of John Davis and Senie Bilberry. I have John Garret's death certificate which is how I found his parents.

I may have some helpful information for you. I found death info for Martha Ann Davis on the Family Search Pilot Program.

Martha Ann Davis
b. 12 Jan 1850 Butler Co., AL
d. 13 Mar 1937 Mann Station, Mobile, AL
Spouse: George Hood Davis
Parents: John Davis & Sannie Bilbra

note: Looks like she took back her maiden name, and error was made on husband's surname.

I have been trying to figure out which children belong to brothers Henry & John Bilberry/Bilbray. Many of John's descendants use the Bilbray surname. I think your Senie Bilberry (b. abt 1827) is the daughter of John & Mary (Barron) Bilberry. No real proof of parentage, but there seems to be two females with similar names, and only a few years apart in age. There is a Sena A. Bilberry that marries Alfred E. Buffington, on 22 Dec 1846, in Lowndes Co., AL (Vol.1, pg 492). Descendants show name as: Senia Aletha Bilberry; census records show birth abt 1829. I think she is the daughter of Henry & Henrietta (Petty) Bilberry.

Lois Bilberry Bennett (my grandmother) was one of Robert Finis Bilberry's daughters. There were three: Adeline, Eula and Lois. My grandmother told me and had written down the story about Elizabeth being captured by the Indians but I am sure it was handed down and I also do not have any proof. I do have Esau's (my gg-grandfather) pension application showing that he served with Ishmael Copeland during the Indian Wars. All of your information is very interesting thank you for sharing it with me!

How does Lois Bilberry Bennett fit in? I see that Esau is the ancestor, but you don't give which child Lois descends from.
The "Indian Raid" is a family legend that has never been proved by any kind of documentation. It has been passed down in the family, but unverified. I have looked and looked, and cannot find mention of the indian raid. There may or may not have been a rape....since we can't verify the TIME period of the alleged raid, Elizabeth MAY have been with child (John Wilson's) when she was captured (if she was). It was said that John C. Bilberry was a minuite man when he chased down the captives....no one has been able to verify that either. There has also never been a divorce record found for John Roden Wilson and Elizabeth Jane, either. The marriage of John Bilberry and Elizabeth Jane is documented.
Was this information that your grandmother wrote down in a diary or something? Curious to know if there are any dates/time periods, etc. The raid was supposed to have been in Cooke Co., Tx.where they were living at the time.
As for Margaret Crews and Margaret Copeland being one and the same......I really cannot say. I didn't see "Copeland" until later on after I had seen the research giving her name as Margaret CREWS....so I didn't change it to Copeland, because I don't think that has ever been proved. As I said above in my post.....I have not tried to verify others' research. If memory serves me right, I received some of the information from earlier researchers...(before everyone started posting it all on the 'net) and they had Cruce/Crews. So I didn't change it, because to my knowledge, there was no proof that it was Copeland instead of Cruce/Crews.
According to the story of the indian raid, John C. Bilberry was married to Vian Willson and they had a daughter Mary Tennessee Bilberry. Vian Willson Bilberry was supposed to have been killed early in the raid, but John C. didn't give up the persuit of the captives. There is just too much legend and no proof to verify anything, and I have just about given up on trying to prove anything with documentation. I purchased a very expensive book on indian raids in Texas, and there was no mention of that raid in there that I could find.
Wish I could have been of more help.

My great great grandfather was Esau Bilberry, I appreciate the information I will have to correct my tree. Is Margaret Crews and Margaret Copeland the same person?

According to my grandmother Lois Bilberry Bennett, she said Elizabeth Jane was raped by a Comanche Indian and taken, John Roden refused to take her back and divorced her and John C. married her.

I have been scanning in all the old family pictures that my grandmother had, along with the writings.

I have the succession (probate records) for Jacob G. Bilberry, Sarah Bilberry Maroney, and William H. Maroney. I was never able to determine the parents of Jacob G. Bilberry. There were a number of Bilberry family members in Union Parish, Louisiana at the time. I could never determine which branch Jacob G. came from. Do you know?
I am also a descendant of John Couch Bilberry. Your gr---grandfather is the brother of my great-grandfather, Henry Herod Bilberry. I have Bilberry information and also researching the Bilberry family. My information is different that the information you posted. Perhaps we can share and compare. I am EXTREMELY interested in Bilberry pictures. One of my aunts (now deceased) told me that she remembered Uncle Myers.

I live in Fort Worth, Texas.
