I have a recipe book that I picked up in an antique store called, "Generations' Creations, Treasured Recipes of the Morgan-White Families" that has family history and pictures of family "treasures". It tells about John, son of Reuben and Mary Wright Morgan who married Agnes Bilbo in Mecklenburg County on August 24, 1779. She was the daughter of James Bilbo and his first wife, Mary Hopson (Hobson).

Dear Budd,
I'm pretty sure we're related, as well. Morton McNeese Bilbo was my great grandfather. He and his wife, Sally Mathis Williams had my grandmother, Theda Rose Bilbo. She married my grandfather, Joseph Samuel Mitchell. they had my mother, Sally Jo Mitchell.
Morton McNeese's father was John Carnes Bilbo who married Susan Flurry.John Carnes father was William Lawrence Bilbo who married Huldah Cole.William Lawrence's father was Thomas Bilbo who married Anna Marie Lawrence.
My mother's family are all from Louisiana and Texas. I was born in Michigan but got to Texas as soon as I could! I was working in Lake Charles for a few weeks a while back and saw Bilbo Street and said to myself, naw, I couldn't be related to that guy. I went to genealogy.com and went to the genforum and typed in Bilbo and got into the Bilbo family forum. There's a lot of interesting stuff. Ofcouse my mother didn't have a clue she was a relation to Thomas Bilbo, so I had no idea about the House of Bilbo or the cemetary in Lake Charles. My Bilbo's lived in DeRidder. From Lake Charles you take 171 North about an hour or so. You probably already know that. When I sent my mother all of my research, she said, "I wonder why my family never bragged about being related to Thomas Bilbo." So funny! My e-mail address is: lollywow2000@yahoo.com Hope to hear from you!

Viki, just happened upon your msg of 09/28/00. If you are from LA, let me help some. Going East on I-10 and exiting to Lake Charles, you will note a small cemetary. Next to it is a memorial plaque commeorating "The Bilbo Place." Thomas Bilbo(06/10/1776, VA. The Bilbo's are of French Huguenots having settled in Va around the 1700's. We are also known as "Bilibeaux", anglizised into "Bilbo." If you want a treat, dig into the Lake Charles American Press, Sunday, August 8, 1976. I have a lot of family info and gobs of names. You might be surprised to know there are only some 500 Bilbo families. A visit to the cemetery will clearly demonstrate how deeply entrenched we are into southern US history. I may be contacted @ 305.829.3101, (fax) 305.829.0687 or cell 786.325.1607, plus e-mail. I'm searching, too.

We have a photo from my husband's grandmother's collection. It is a picture of Evelyn Ruth Bilbo (as a little girl) in a wagon pulled by a woolly goat(sheep?). We think she may be related to former Governor/Senator Theodore Bilbo as my husband's family is from the Pearl River/Poplarville area and his grandfather was a contractor for the U.S. Government. If she is related to someone, we would like to send or email a copy of the picture for their family tree (we know how hard it is to find information and photographs of family).

Children of Nannie Bilbo McCauley

Nannie Bilbo had 12 children with her husband, Rev. J. S. McCauley of Leake Co., Mississippi. I have a document which lists one daughter as Louise McCauley Ragusa, whereas internet info lists the name as Elizabeth Willis. Can anyone clarify this? Secondly, she had a daughter, Dora. Was her middle name Leona as the internet states, or was it Dale as one family record lists it? Finally, who did Dora marry? His nickname was "Fan" Spivey, but some sources state his name as Jonathan N. and some state Guy Louis. Dora lived from 1874 to 1915. Any help will be appreciated.

Rosemary,
Wow! How exciting to find family that I did
not know I had! That side of my family, unfortunately,
has not been very close to my immediate family. My
parents divorced when I was young and we just did not
do much about extended family. I have always
wanted to find out about the Tootle side. This
is so exciting! My sister lives in Gulfport, MS.
They won't be there too much longer because her husband
is in the military and they will be transfering to
another base soon. I found out that I have a family
Bible with some information about the Tootle tree.
When I get it out of storage, I will let you know what
I find!
Again, I am so excited to find and talk with family!
Feel free to e-mail me anytime!
dwhit29@attglobal.net
Thanks,
Joy

I have just found the family history website and I read
your post about wanting to find descendants of John Louis Tootle.
I think I might be related. My grandfather, who was from MS.,
has a brother named Bilbo, obviously named after someone. My
grandfather's name was Louis Orey Tootle. I'll have to ask my
dad about his grandfather's name, but the pieces are beginning
to fit. My Grandafther, Louis Orey, married Francis Davis from
Mobile, AL August 25, 1940. He also had twin brothers, Eron and
Iron. There is one sister in the bunch, Weida mae.(spelling?)
Hope this helps. Let me know if you need more info, or if you
already know the history.
Thanks,
Joy Tootle White

Prior to Texas there seems to be strong evidence that the Bilbo s entered the US originally through Jamestown in Virginia with some settling in Northern Virginia, some in Mississippi and some in Texas.
