I am one of the many grand daughters of William Edward Billings from Gonzales, Texas. I am also the person who posted his picture. Your GGGrandfather, Enoch, was his brother. My mother, Lora G Billings, says that her dad, William, (known as Willie) always denied having any living relatives up until she was in her last year of high school and then suddenly he made a trip from San Saba, TX to Freer to visit his family. She said the whole family was dumbfounded that they living relatives. Willie was an alcoholic and most people around San Saba generally thought of him as being crazy. My father said everyone knew old man Billings was nuts. He also carried a side arm and rifle most of the time and is rumored to have killed a man near San Saba. For some reason he moved his family back and forth between Freer and San Saba occasionaly. My mom says she doesn't know for sure why he did that. Willie and Minnie (Wendt) Billings are buried at Hahl Cemetary along with two of their sons, Carter and Wesley. Hope this fills in some of the blanks. Do you have any stories about the rest of the Billings family? What happened with some of the other brothers?
