Shropshire England Research on Billingsley

My nephew is headed across the pond to study abroad in England where he will spend his junior year of college. Where should I send him for Billingsley pictures/research in Bridgenorth/Shropshire? I was going to send him to St. Leonard Church to see Col. Billingsley's sword that was hanging on diplay- but I just went to look it up and wikipedia says it was stolen! Bummer!
Do you have any suggestions?

I am the G Grandson of Lydia Ann Cranford, mother of Walter Jerome Randolph by Lydia's first husband Montgomery Campbell Randolph. Lydia's second husband was Madison A Randolph, brother of Montgomery. Madison is my G Grandfather.

I remember seeing Uncle Jerome when I was a small child. He came to visit my Grandfather William Cicero Randolph. I remember a very tall forbidding looking man. Of course I was about five years old at the time.

This was near Summersville, MO. in the 1940s.

I have more information on the Randolph side of the family if you are interested.

I would be interested in copies of the pictures of Mary Courtney and her mother.

I am a Billingsley descendent, living in Shropshire. John Billingsley was born in 1798 in Berrington, Shrops. to parents Thomas & Sarah Billingsley. I have not found any reference to Sarah's maiden name so would be interested in where 'Davies' comes from. This Thomas Billingsley probably died in Berrington 1829 (buried 10 Apr), but I still need to confirm this is him.
I don't have any information other than this as it is difficult to trace how they moved around the county.

My dad was Donald Fredrick Lincoln McBeth He was a brother to Bessie. Aunt Bessie was cool. I remember a story mom used to tell about a party at Bessie's house when she lived just down the street from Evy. It was a New Year's Eve party and I guess they got a bit loud because the neighbors called the cops. My mom was not drinking and the story goes that Bessie poured a drink down the front of mom's dress and said, "If we are going to jail you are going with us". lol

Does anyone know where she is buried? Supposedly she died in 1917, perhaps in Iowa. She was living with her daughter Iccie Rice in 1910 and I know that Iccie and her husband George moved to Des Moines shortly after they married in 1912. Also, Mary and husband Josephus had a daughter Minnie E who died 5 days before her father died in 1900. Josephus is buried in Alpha-Anderson Cemetery in Grundy Co. Missouri but I can not located a burial for Minnie. She would have been about 16. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Looking for Billingsley family Information

I am looking for any information on the Billingsley family. My grandmother's father was Fred Joseph Sickling. His parents were George Denis Sickling and Stella May Trexler. Stella May's parents were Anthony J Trexler and Angeline Billingsley. I have found a family tree on ancestry.com that had the Billingsley family traced way back, and would love to find more information on the people who are listed.

All I know of the family is what was listed on the family tree (Birth, Marriage, Death). The tree states that Angeline's father is Walter Billingsley (B. 1834 TN).

Angeline and Anthony Trexler were married in 1880 in Pulaski County, Illinois. They had Stella May Trexler in 1881 and Angeline died before 1886, because Anthony marries another woman that year.

If anyone would have any information on this family, I would love to share with you!
Billingsley Family, Family Crest, and Billingsley's of Arkansas & Virginia

Wanted to let fellow researchers know that the Izard County History ( http://backwardbranch.com/arizard/backissues.html ) has a booklet printed April, 1973 concerning the Billingsley's. Most specifically "Judge" Samuel Billingsley and the families of Maryland and Virginia that are descended from Francis Billingsley.

The book also contains a copy of Colonel Francis Bililngsley's Coat of Arms; the coat of arms passed down from William Billingsley and all Lords of Astley Abbots until the families exodus from England. It was rumored that Francis Billingsley brought a copy of that Coat of Arms with him to America. This seems to be confirmed in both Billingsleys in America and in this booklet from the Historian.

The crest is also seen on a plaque in the "church of St Calixtus in Astley Abbotts is situated three miles outside Bridgnorth, just off the Bridgnorth to Broseley Road", commemorating the sacrifice of Colonel Francis Billingsley and his son Major Francis Billingsley who were both killed in battle

"Local hero Colonel Francis Billingsley was born at Stanley Hall in Astley Abbotts in 1618. At 28 and fighting for Charles I he was slain in a battle, whilst defending St Leonard's church in Bridgnorth from Cromwell's swordsmen. His son, Major Francis Billingsley died only 10 years later, also in his 20s. The marble plaque on the south wall shows the family coat of arms. There is an easier to read rubbing of the inscription on the vestry wall."

The coat of arms is as follows "Argent, a cross Sable voided of the field, five estoiles in cross between four lions rampant all of the second."

The family crest (used on the nine known variations of the billingsley coat of arms listed in Billingsleys in America) is "On a mount vert a leopard couchant or, spotted sable. "

This is not to be confused with the "Family Crest" of the Billingsley's you often see on websites selling copies or crest memorabilia. Usually you see a red and gold crest with a fleur-de-lis. This is the crest of Henry Billingsley, while a son of William Billingsley of Astley Abbots, Henry Billingsley lived in London and is known for his accomplishments - including at one point being the Mayor of London, a member of parliament, and being given estates in Ireland. However, the "three brothers" who came to America from Astley Abbots, County Salop, England are not direct descendants of him. He would have been their great, etc. uncle and thus could not be considered the "family crest" of most Billingsleys living in America.

What is most exciting about this booklet from the Izard County Historian is that it also includes the Billingsley's motto; "Suaviter in Modo, Fortiter in Re" which translates to "Gentle in Manner, Firm in Act."

The booklet from the Izard County Historian is mostly the ancestors, history, life, and children of Judge Samuel Billingsley born Feb. 11, 1786 - Died, Feb 24, 1882. The ancestors include John Billingsley and go as far back as Francis Billingsley (1620-1684) of County Salop, England. The most interesting part, to me, is the anecdotes about the people themselves rather than just lists of facts.

I can't say too much more on the people listed, as they are not of my direct line, however I wanted to share the existence of this booklet.

The Booklet can be purchased from the link at the top of this thread for $5.00 (this price includes postage, etc) and is Volume 4, Number 2, April 1793.

Surnames are taken from the introduction of the booklet of "families related to the Billingsleys".

Billingsleys in Arkansas

I cannot find anything about by great-grandmother, Zona Billingsley (1884- 1927). She was supposed to be from a prominent family who did not like her marriage to my great-grandfather, James Madison Vanzant. He was about 10 years older. She died when my grandmother was 4 or 5 and my grandmother had almost no contact with that side of the family.
She may have had an aunt named "Orr" She may have been from Izard County area or somewhere in North Central Arkansas

Annie was born in Clarion Co, PA. Rawley and Annie lived in Ellsworth District, Middlebourne, Tyler Co, WV in the 1880 census with sons Byron & Guy. No further records have been found for Rawley or Anna. In 1900, Byron and Guy were living in Allegheny Co, PA but no further records have been found for either of them.

Barbara Billingsley,
SANTA MONICA, Calif.
Barbara Billingsley, who gained the title supermom for her gentle portrayal of June Cleaver, the warm, supportive mother of a pair of precocious boys in "Leave it to Beaver," has died. She was 94.
She acted in a number of roles in movies from the mid-1940s to the mid-1950s, but it wasn't until "Leave it to Beaver" that she became a star,
When the show debuted in 1957, Jerry Mathers, who played Beaver, was 9, and Tony Dow, who portrayed Wally, was 12. Billingsley's character, the perfect stay-at-home 1950s mom, was always there to gently but firmly nurture both through the ups and downs of childhood.
Re: BILLINGSLEY - WESTERFIELD, VA to MS

Actually I overstated that. The Westervelts did come from Holland, but three of their tributary lines--Demarest, De Ruine, and De Baum--were French Huguenots who were driven out of Picardy, settled first along the Rhine in the 1600s, and then made their way to Holland. Elizabeth Demarest (b1715) married William Campbell in New Jersey around 1730, and their daughter, Nancy "Nentie" Campbell, married David Westervelt (b1783), the son of Casparus Westervelt (b1752).

Our Rebecca Billingsley, born in VA, married Cass Westerfield, lived in Kemper, Winston, and Scott counties in MS, and died in Wayne county MS, a widow living with her son William in the village of State Line.

But who were her parents? She shows her father to have been born in VA and her mother in MD. That would fit Clement Billingsley's son George W Billingsley and his wife Ann. A different tree shows a Rebecca (1823) whose parents are Elijah Billingsley Sr and Rebecca Randolph, both of VA.

Thanks for replying to my question about Rebecca Billingsley. I know a good deal aboauat the Westervelt-Westerfield line. It's a great American story, all the way from France through Germany to Holland, and then to New York and New Jersey, with our line coming down through DC and Alabama to Mississippi.

But I never have been able to find out who Rebecca Billingsley's parents were. Do you have any information on the Billingsley line? We would greatly appreciaate any help.

Rebecca Billingsley and Casparus Westerfield (b 1818 in DC) were my wife's GGGgrandparents. We have the locations, through the censuses, of where they lived in MS.
