Elizabeth (Lizzie)Riley was born in 1900 in Hickman County, TN.. I would assume they married in the 1920's. I have no idea about Will's date of birth. I assume they were in Chicago in the 60's and after, since my sister married in 56 and visited with them in Chicago after her marriage.

I found North Carolina Birth Index, 1800-2000
It lists 4 children born to Robert S Binkley. One of the children is Robert W Binkley born 1/20/1947. Is this your Robert S Binkley? I believe his full name is Robert Spencer Binkley. I can look up to 1930 census (other census beyond that date are not released) & if you had any other information like Robert W's mother, that would help. I could possibly trace Robert S Binkley back to his parents using the census.
Contact me at jallen76@cox.net & please make a notation this is regarding genealogy.
Sue Binckley Allen

Re: Seeking Inforamtion on my great grandfather

I believe that these are your Binkleys.

1930 Census for Chatham Co., NC, Enumeration District 19-20, Sheet 14A:

Robert Binkley,Jr., age 3-1/12, is living with his parents Robert,26 and Louise,21, and sister Elsie, 4. All were born in NC.

1910 Census for Forsyth County, NC, Enumeration District 56, Sheet 10:

Robert Binkley, age 6, is living with his father Peter M., 46, mother Etta, 35, and siblings Eugene, 11, Harry, 10, Kenneth, 8, Mary, 5, Peter, 4, John D., 2, and Inez V., 10/12. All were born in NC.

1870 Census for Forsyth County, NC, p. 363:

Peter M. Binkly [sic, indexed by Ancestry as Peter W. Bankly], age 7, is living with parents Jacob, 44, and Antonett, 38, and siblings John W., 11, Mary Jane, 9, Elizabeth, 5, Martha, 4, and Jacob A., 4/12. All were born in NC.

This is as far as I could trace this line in the census records; so, I had to turn to the work of others. The excellent Web site of Elizabeth Harris and Faye Moran at http://www.fmoran.com/binkley.html

shows this Jacob Binkley as the son of Jacob Binckele [b. 1792] and wife Elizabeth b. 1793]. This bridges the gap to my own database. Jacob Binckele was the son of Friedrich Binckele, b. 1757 in PA, and Elizabeth Dull, b. 1764 in PA.

Friedrich was the son of my fourth great-grandfather Peter Binggeli, b. 1704, Switzerland, d. 1793, NC, and his second wife, Anna Maria Margaretha Geiger, b. 1722 in what is now Germany, d. 1803, NC. I have a brief biography of Peter on my Web site at
http://www.binkleytarpley.com/peterbinggeli.html. I am descended from Friedrich's older half-brother Johannes.

To summarize, as best I can tell, Robert S. Binkley's ancestry is

Peter>Friedrich>Jacob>Peter M.>Robert>Robert, Jr.

My Binkleys moved from NC to TN in the 1790's, and I primarily research TN Binkleys and their descendants. I moderate a private Binkley group on Yahoo. E-mail me at sarabtarpley@gmail.com if you would like an invitation.

Binkley born in Chatham, NC in 1947.

I also know that Robert S. is currently living in Florida somewhere. I have never met him. He only recently met his son Robert W. within the last 5 years.
If you would like to meet Binkleys from all over the country, descended from all of the 18th-century Binkley immigrants to America, then join us from May 5-8 in Lancaster County, PA, where all of the Binkley immigrants first settled.

This event offers the opportunity to hear presentations on Binkley genealogy, tour sites related to early Binkley history, and experience the attractions of "Amish country" with its horse-drawn buggies and peaceful farms.

Professional genealogist Anne Schmidt-Lange will report on her research on our Binkley roots in Europe as we seek to learn the relationship between the Binkley immigrants to America, primarily Peter Binkley; his brother Johannes Binkley, Jr., Hans Michael Binkley, and Johannes Binkley, the Mennonite.

Please consider joining us for this first-ever Binkley gathering.

I am distantly related to Huston, George, et al as they are descendants of my fourth great-grandfather Peter Binkley of NC. They are descended from a son who remained in NC. I am descended from one of Peter's four children who came to TN between 1789 and about 1800.

I found a Verna Binkley in the Social Security Death Index that could be Lida's daughter:

Verna M. Binkley
SSN: 362-50-9298
Last Residence: 48912 Lansing, Ingham, Michigan, United States of America
Born: 7 Aug 1912
Died: 31 May 2000
State (Year) SSN issued: Michigan (1964 )

On a "People Finder" site I found a listing that showed this Verna's middle name as Melissa.

I could not find Verna in the 1930 census. You have probably searched there as well.

Hope some of this is helpful.

Capt. Christian BINCKLEY

Hello, this is Ann.......

We are all still learning new things.....I think its nice to have some things cleared up for us....

First, is we are to believe the obit for Capt Christian Binckley from the news paper, it mentions ten children, so he outlived most of his children as only four were still living when he passed.

1832- Capt. Christian Binckley's grave marker at Binckley's Ridge Cemetery says, "In Memory Of Christian Binckley died June 21 1832 Age 94 Years 2 Months".

From the Ohio Eagle Newspaper, of Lancaster, Ohio, Sat., July 21, 1832, Died in Perry Co., the 21st of June last Mr. Christian Binklie in the 95th year of his age. The deceased was an early resident of this state. He was the parent of 10 children, four of whom are now living. The number of his descendants at the time of his death accounted to 319. 4 children; 66 grandchildren; 234 great grandchildren; 15 great great grandchildren.

Johannis was married to Fronica/nickname "Freny" and several other spellings for her nickmane, we still don't know her maiden name. She was buried in the Fremont, Ohio Binkley cemetery next to her son Christian. The name on the stone is Frances Binkley. Seems she took care of Capt Christian til her died, then she went to live with her son.
By this time, she was of some age herself.

Johan Jacob was another son of Capt Christian Binckley/Binkley and he was married to Elizabeth Wingard and he seemed to have gone by Jacob. Johan Jacob Binckley may have even been named for his male sponsor at his baptism, Johan Jacob Baeshore.

*******Will of Jacob Baeshore Will – copy received from Perry Co., Ohio Probate Court Transcribed by Patricia Smith December 13, 2006

In the name of God, Amen.

Jacob Baeshore, the County of Perry and State of Ohio, being weak in body but sound in memory, blessed be Almighty God for the same, do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following:

First I will and desire that my body should be buried in a decent and Christian manner.

2nd I will and bequeath that all my goods and chattel, bed, bedding and all my house and kitchen furniture shall be sold and the money collected in reasonable time together with the notes and other account in my hand against different persons.

3rd I will and bequeath that my funeral and other expenses shall first be paid out of the above moneys when so be it

4th I will and bequeath that ten Dollars shall be paid towards repairing the Grave yard at Binckley’s School house

5th I will and bequeath that three years after my decease John Binckley, Mary Begher, Nancy Leach, Henry Binckley, Elizabeth Binckley and George Binckley, heirs of Jacob Binckley late deceased, shall have each and every one of them or their heirs and equal legatee or share of the over flush if any of all the money collected as above.
And lastly, I hereby appoint and consti---- Adam Binckley my sole executor of this my will and testament hereby revoking all former wills by me made. In witness whereof I have here unto set my hand and seal this 15th day of August in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and twenty three.
Jacob (his mark) Baeshore.
Signed sealed and published
and declared by the above named
Jacob Baeshore to be his last
Will and testament in the presence
of us who have hereunto sub-
scribed our names as witness in
the presence of the Testator.
Adam Binckley
George Witmer
(Unreadable)

Proven by G Whitmore and Peter Becker
John Fisher Jr, John Humbarger, and Peter Humbarger appraisers.

The last will and testament of Jacob Baeshore was produced in open court on the 15th day of September 1823 and proved by George Whitmore and Peter Baker the subscribing witness thereto and the same was ordered to be recorded which was done on the 16th day of February 1824. Mr. John Beckwith, Clerk.

There are administration papers in Farifield county, Ohio courthouse for Johan Jacob Binkley, naming Adam Binckley one of the administrators and a list of Johan Jacob's belongings. Adam would have been the youngest brother of Johannis as well as Johan.

Source: 1774- From the following records at Heidelberg, Cacusi, St. John's or Hain's Church in Berks County, PA. Johann Jacob of Christian Binckle and wife, bapt. January 23, 1774. Sponsors: Johann Jacob Boshar and Christina Schaarman.

Absolutely EVERYONE wants to know if Johannis was born c1764, why did they wait so long to have him baptized??
The reason is.......he wasn't the son baptized in 1764!!

Seems whoever did research long-long ago confused the two men.........thinking Johan was a short version of Johannis.

Descendants of Johann Jacob Binckley
that one researcher has come up with:

Generation No. 1

1. JOHANN JACOB BINCKLEY (CHRISTIAN BINKLEY, JOHANNES BINCKLEY SR, ) was born Abt. 1773 in Berks County, Pennsylvania, baptized 23 JAN 1774, and died October 1810 in Fairfield County, Ohio.. Abt. 1855.

Elizabeth's second husband, John Baker, along with Elizabeth, and some of her children by Johan Jacob Binckley, and John Baker are all buried at Binkley-Ridge cemtery in a row where an old Binkley marker is and is UNREADABLE.

Personally, I think this is the 1810 gravestone of Johan Jacob Binkley since ;Elizabeth is in the same row.

I can post all the Binkley and Baker's buried at Binkley-Ridge and what rows they are buried in. All rows are next to each other. Johan Jacob Binkey is only one row over from Capt Christian Binkley....having died 1810, many years before Christian.

Sorry this is so long. Hope this helps.

I no longer have many pages from my site up since Anc cached sites.

See

Berks County Will Abstracts 1766-1770 http://www.rootsweb.com/~paberks/wills/Abstracts1766-1770.ht...

for will of Capt Christian Binckley's father.
I do not know where Coffee Co. is or Sycamore Mills and it is not mentioned in your inquiry. So, whereever this county or place is I would start there with the historical societies and ask about powder mills in this area. Try google searching and also checking civil war records for this area. If it is the Lancaster Co., PA area there are Binkleys everywhere and you need to define your search. There are early Binkley's buried at Mellinger Cemetery and lots of cemeteries in Manor Twp. The Lancaster Historical Society has book listings on the cemeteries and some on-line. Plus, there are some cemeteries on the ancestors land or churches.

Annette

Hello. I'm from Darke County, OH so this post caught my eye. Also, am related to Binkley's as my third great grandma was Catherine E. Binkley married to Samuel Culbertson and they moved from Montgomery Co., OH to Darke County around the 1860's. Catherine came from Lancaster Co., PA around 1848 and was married several years later. We have been discussing a Jacob Binkley on our Binkley web site @ http://groups.yahoo.com/group/binkleys/post. You might want to check it out. We are trying to verify the Binkley's who came to America and their roots. I descend from the Johannes Binkley, the mennonite. Lived Lancaster Co., PA and Catherine's grandfather, Samuel and father, Johnson all came to OH. Sorry, but I don't know about this line. This Jacob would have been born around when Catherine was married. Her daughter, Marietta Culbertson Fourman is the next generation for my line.

Binkley farm near Bellefosse, Lower Alsace, to 1725-29

I came across a map of farms in Ban de la Roche that shows the farm mentioned by Monique François as being one that was worked by Christian BINKLEY and Elsbeth BURRI, called Bas Lachamp.

Monique wrote: "
Les parents, Christian Pinckelé et Elizabeth Burri, décèdent l'un et l'autre
à Bellefosse, lui en 1725 (jour et mois illisibles), elle le 15 5 1729."
= they both died at Bellefosse, he in 1725 and she on 15 May 1729; and
"Cette cense du Bas Lachamp, d’autres, sans être censiers en titre, ont du y travailler occasionnellement, dont Christian PINCKELÉ et son épouse [sic - maybe mother] Elisabeth BURRI.”
= Christian & Elisabeth probably worked the lease-hold [farm] called Bas Lachamp, without necessarily holding title to it.

The map was published in a volume available in the library at the Lancaster Mennonite Hist Socy outside Lancaster PA, called SAISONS D'ALSACE: Revue trimestrielle - 25º Année, No. 76. [no date]

The map makes up p. 43 and carries the title "Les Fermes Anabaptistes de la Haute-Bruche" - The Anabaptist/Mennonite Farms of the Upper Bruche Valley [Alsace].

Just south of the town of Bellefosse are shown two farms named Laichamp [sic], with Haut-Laichamp directly south and Bas-Laichamp a little to the west of that one (obviously downhill, toward the River Bruche). The key shows that both of those farms were owned by someone 'Protestant' as opposed to 'Catholic'.

The text under the map says [my translation]: "The Upper Valley of the Bruche River became a safe place, after the famous order of expulsion of Anabaptists from Alsace in 1712, and one of the densest assemblages of the "sectarians". Although they were not officially recognized, the nobles, high bourgeoisie, local bishop, and municipalities did not hesitate to trust them with the operation of their lands, which were however usually situated as far as possible from the centers of population."

JRB

New DNA Results are in!

You can view the new DNA results here: http://www.familytreedna.com/public/binkley/ (Click on Y Results).

In group 1, kit 71739 has upgraded to 37 markers with results due any day now. In group 2, kit 78682 has upgraded to 37 with results due in 6-8 weeks. I have not asked the 3rd group, John Binkley of NC to upgrade to 37, as there is no reason to do so, until they start getting matches.

Two new kits are coming due. Both believe that they do not match the Swiss Binkleys. One kit will start having results trickle in late this week or early next week and the other kit will be back in 6-8 weeks.

Group 1 is getting a little closer to splitting apart, but will still need more DNA participants in order for me to do this.

If you are interested in DNA and how it can help you, feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,
Cheri Mello
Binkley/Pinkley DNA Admin.

DNA Project

Hello Members,

My name is Cheri Mello and I took over the Binkley/Pinkley DNA study with FamilyTree DNA. I've been involved in various DNA studies for the past 2.5 years. I'm a co-administrator of one study, sole administrator of two others, and am part of a DNA committee at my local genealogy society. I chose FamilyTreeDNA as the testing company as I like the tools they provide the administrators (me) to help manage the project (your DNA results).

You can find out more information here (how to join, cost, etc):
https://www.familytreedna.com/surname_join.aspx?code=D26491&...
(You can also access it from the main page at: www.ftdna.com and type in Pinckney, Binkley or Pinkley or any other allied surname in the search box).

Also, FamilyTree DNA has started their Holiday sale early. The Y-DNA 37 marker test is $30 off and the Y-DNA 25 marker is $15 off. You must order via the invoice method by Dec. 31st.

Email me with any questions. I am on the message board and the list. Thanks!

Sincerely,
Cheri Mello
Binkley/Pinkley DNA Admin
3G: Cynthia Pinkley (18teens - c. 1844)
Possibly the dau. of George Pinkley (maybe Benj.
Gabriel Simpson & William Robert Simpson

I have been tracing my family history. I know that Gabe(Gabriel Simpson and his son William R. Simpson both had homes in Sycamore Mills as early as 1850. I know where my Great Grandfather is buried in Coffee County were he and his family moved, but I have no idea where his father Gabriel is buried. It must be in or near Sycamore Mills. I have been told that during the Civil War my Great Great Grandfater, Gabe, worked in a Powder Mill. That he was present when an explosion occured and suffered terrible burns. Do you know any thing about a powder mill in that area?

Sarah, thanks for all the information on Charles Binkley. This is the same family I am researching. Charles was born in NC shortly before the family moved to the Urbana area of Illinois. Charles father, Huston, was a younger brother of my great grandfather Columbus Hampton "Hamp" Binkley. According to the family Bible, Huston was born 1 Dec 1858. He was the second son and third child of Peter and Henrietta "Nettie" Hauser Binkley.

The Minnie Binkley you mention was Huston and Georgette's eldest child. She seems to have stayed with the family and never married. The last record I have of her lists her as an inmate of a mental hospital in Virginia.

I have a letter dated 1950 to my grandfather, Gray Binkley from Howard. He gives his address as 3423 Henderson Rd. Cleveland Heights, OH. Howard included a picture of himself and Charlie in the letter and indicates that Lela and Grace are living near him.

I have tried for years to make contact with living members of this family. Howard's 1950 letter seems to be the last contact anyone in my family has had with them.
Steve
