Lucy Ann Binns

Lucy Ann was born in New Kent Co. Va. on June 12, 1839. In the 1850 census at 11 years old she was living in New Jersey with the Joseph Couch family. Joseph was married to Margaret Pea also from New Kent Co?. Margaret's mother Mandy Pea was also living with them. I cannot find any connection for Lucy to the "Binns" family. I can only assume something happened to her family and she was taken in by Mandy? Lucy eventually married George Mick who's mother was Phebe Couch possibly related to Joseph. Any information would be appreciated.

Binns Family, Leeds, Yorkshire

I'm currently researching my grandmother's family, the Binns.
So far, my research goes back to the 1881 census, where James Binns (b.1852) was married to Elizabeth (b.1853).
Between them, they had 11 children:

Henry H Binns
James Binns
William Binns
Elizabeth Binns (later Elizabeth "Bessy" Balme)
Charles K Binns
Florence Binns
Clifford Binns (married to Gladys May Brunton)
Mabel Binns (my great grandmother, later Mabel Weaver)
Alfred Binns
Reginald Binns (married to Edith Argyle)
Sydney Binns

They resided in Leeds, Yorkshire on Samuel Street.
James died somewhere between 1881 and 1901, leaving Elizabeth a widow.
She then died sometime after.

The children I am particularily intersted in are Clifford, Mable, Reginald and Sydney.

Reginald died in WW1, after marrying Edith only months earlier. I have extensive information on his death, and role in war, as he has been the focus of my research.

Any information relating to ANY of the mentioned would be greatly appreciated.

HI There,

I current have family all over the world, but the Binns family are mainly in St.Elizabeth Jamaica. Apparently, there is a rumour in the family that we did decend from Scotland and have a link to castle binns (binns is spelt differently though). Mr Grandfather's surname was Simpson but his grandmother (catherine binns) regsitered him as Binns so his full name is Raymond Oscar Binns. I know we are also related to the Roe's, Bromfield's, Simpson, Tyrell. My Nan, who currently lives in London will have more info so i will contact her and find out about Scotland. If you happen to be related to Simpson, I do know our ancestor originally decend from England and travelled the globe as a cane merchant, favourite haunts were Canada, Florida, Italy and of course Jamaica. Hope this helps. Lisha

John Binns, Saltaire, Yorkshire

I am seeking information about John Binns. I know he was born in Wilsden, nr Bingley in 1838 and lived in the Cullingworth area through 1841-1851. Between then and 1861 he moved with his parents (Timothy and Hannah) to Saltaire. In 1862 he married Ellen Firth and in 1863 they had a daughter Barbara - my great grandmother. Then - nothing, no census, no further birth records although I know that they had further children.
However,I have found out that that in 1881 he appears in the census for Fourmies in France and he was there until, at least, 1896 but he was not in their 1901 census. Nor is he in the UK 1901 census.
I'm sure that he must have gone to France some time around 1863-66 working for Sir Issac Holden or Sir Samuel Lister but have no proof of this. Also I suspect that both he and Ellen may died in France. Again, I can't prove it.
Can anyone help?

Hi Everyone,

Near my family's Knapp/Purdy family burial plot in The White Plains Rural Cemetery in White Plains, NY, there is a "Rowan C. Binns" buried in what may or may not be part of the family plot. He lived 1873-1949 and I find him married to a "Mary" in the 1930 census. I also see that he became a naturalized US citizen from "English Canada" while still "unmarried" in abt. 1924. Does anyone know anything about him? Is his wife, Mary, a Purdy or Knapp descendant?

Elizabeth,

I am trying to research my father-in-laws family, his father was William Wallace Binns, born 3-5-1929. William's father was named Harry married to Emma. We have that Harry was born in England (approx. 1874?) married Emma (no maiden name on record) who was from Pennsylvania. Some of thier children were born in Pennsylvania, some in Ohio - which is where my father-in-laws father (William Wallace Binns) raised my father-in-law and his brothers and sister. Is William Wallace Binns' father possibly the Harry that is the brother to your grandfather? We only have this information - any help would be appreciated.

Best Regards,
Christine Knight Binns

Hello,

I'm looking for information about Ann Binns (maiden name unknown, born about 1834 in Ireland, some papers say England) and George Binns born about 1840 in England. They must have immigrated to the United States before 1870 since they are listed on the census. They had three children Henry F (abut 1866, New York City) William (abt 1864) and George (about 1869 New York City). Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Mary Elizabeth Binns - Harris County, GA between 1880-1900

Looking for a Mary Elizabeth Binns that was in Harris County, GA between 1880-1900. She may have married John Albert Hastey. The John B Hastey family Bible says he was married to a Mollie Bonner on Dec 18, 1881. He had 4 children: Eula, John Clifford, Thomas Watson, Bessie. I thought that Mollie Bonner was the mother of all of them but SS records (which I have not seen myself) say that the mother of Thoms Watson Hastey and Bessie Hastey is Mary Elizabeth Binns. We are waiting on SS records on Eula and John Clifford. Does anyone here know of Mary Elizabeth Binns? cmburford@windstream.net
Thanks.
Mark.

Since Haworth is just across the valley from Oakworth, your Joseph Binns born 1809 in Haworth seems very likely to be related to my ancestor William Binns of Oakworth. But we have no birth date for William or any earlier ancestry.

William married Rebecaa Wilkinson sometime after 1830. Their son was Wilkinson Binns of Oakworth, Aug 5, 1831 - 1914. He was a Tailor and a poet. He married his boss's daughter: Martha Atkinson, 1832 - 1907 who was the Governess at Oakworth Hall, and a friend of the Brontë sisters.
Son: Walter Atkinson Binns, b. March 13, 1866 Oakworth - 1945. Two of his brothers emigrated to Ravenna Ohio. He married Sarah Ann Jones from Blaenavon, and their son is my beloved Grandfather Arthur Binns 1893-1956

I am trying to find my relatives in Bradford. My Dad
Alan Binns worked in the mines and migrated to Australia
in 1926. He never returned to the UK and married Barbara
Vaughan. His father was also Alan Binns and mother
Ada Cordingly. Alan also worked in the mines and Ada
my grandmother was a miller in the mills. I would
love to find some family as my Mum Barbara is 95 years
and nearing the end of her life.
Cheers
Yvonne from OZ
