Thomas M. Birchfields first wife's name was Dilsey Ann Raymond and were married 8 July 1843 in Raleigh, West Virginia.
My Uncle was very specific in his information. I got everything I know from him. My Dad gave us nothing. I'm thinking that we actually got the Cherokee from my Grandmother side, Meadows. I am so confused with aposing information I don't know where to go. I am not trying to claim any citizenship with the Cherokee Nation. I know what has to be proved and I am actually ok with what I know. Just would be nice to see it in black and white to know for sure.

Hi Barbara, I am not related. I looked at this family, all records that I found did state this family as white. Nothing indicated they were Cherokee. I wanted to say, just because your uncle said this family is Cherokee, does not make them Cherokee. I don,t think your father was hiding anything from what I was able to find. There was a question to who Thomas Birchfield,s first wife was, her name I mean, but, as far as I could tell, there is nothing pointing to a Cherokee linage with this family. Do you think your uncle could have been mistaken? Just a thought. My only suggestion is maybe a DNA might help to answer some questions. Good luck in your search. Brightstarr

I have also been searching for information on my paternal Grandmother Susan Birchfield Farley. Her Father was Thomas M. Birchfield b.1820 d.1891. Grandmother Malinda Meadows b.1844 d.1926. Both born in North Carolina. I have their birth certificates which states they are white. I was told by my Uncle that they were full Cherokee as were Their parents. I don't have much history since my Father hid this truth from us. He and his brothers moved to California in the early 1920's. Does anyone have any infor on this family? I have some other back history on their descendants but that is all. When ever I bring up Native American ancestry the Birchfield board disclaims this. We have carateristics(sp)of Cherokee. My Dad was Cherokee through and through. Sad that we did not know this until I was in my 30's.

I'm sorry, but I don't know anything more about Eathel Birchfield Mitchell. I will do some research and see if I can find a previous marriage for her but I don't live in Missouri, so I am limited as to what I can find.

My Mother-in-law was Ethel Mitchell she was married to Harry Neff and had three daughters and when Harry passed away she remarried to Eddy Mann. All the children to Eathel Birchfield have passed away. Do you have anything on Ethel Birchfield (Mitchell) We were told she may have had two children in MO. Mrs. Emma Jones, a life-long resident of the Tarkio country, died at the County Home on Friday last, where she had been an inmate about three weeks.
She was born in Atchison County on September 27th, 1854. The remains were taken to Center Grove Cemetery for interment. Her death resulted from paralysis.

Emma Alice Caudle was born near Tarkio, September 27, 1854, and died Friday, April 3, 1914. One of her children has departed from this life and seven survive her, Mrs. Myrtle Lamb, Burlington, IA; W. C. Birchfield, St. Louis,
MO; Mrs. Birdie Findley, Portland, OR; G. C. Birchfield, Chicago, IL; Mrs. Ethel Mitchell, Tarkio, MO; Mrs. Maude Hayes and Earl Jones, Shenandoah, IA.

Her brother, H. H. Caudle and two sisters, Mrs. C. G. Howell and Mrs. Nora Milk of Boone, IA are also left to mourn her loss.

She had six grandchildren living. She united with the Methodist Church about 25 years ago and put her membership with the Christian Church of Tarkio a number of years ago.

Her health has been failing for some time. She made preparations for her death, selecting scripture and hymns for the funeral.

Funeral services were held at the Christian Church Sabbath afternoon, April 4, at 4 o'clock conducted by Rev. R. L. Thorp. Interment took place in the Home Cemetery.

Emmaline married1 (1) Foster T. Brennan son of ?? Brennan on 12 Nov 1874 in Atchison County, Missouri. Foster was born in Kentucky. He died before 1876.

Foster and Emmaline had the following children:
Myrtle N. Brennan was born about 1875 in Missouri.
Myrtle married Silas W. Lamb son of Orange S. Lamb and Nancy Meeks. Silas was born on 2 May 1872 in Fremont County, Iowa. He died on 25 Sep 1960 in Los Angeles County, California.

Emmaline married (2) John W. Birchfield son of William Perry Birchfield and Mary Ann Bledsoe on 25 Nov 1876 probably in Missouri. The marriage ended in divorce. John was born about 1850 in Missouri.

In the 1880 Census, John W. Birchfield is listed as a horse dealer, his brother Dick Birchfield is living with him and is also a horse dealer. Family legend has John's brother, James P. Birchfield, supposedly hanged for horse theft in McAlester, Indian Territory before 1900. A bill of
indictment for perjury was filed in Paul's Valley, Indian Territory on 31 Jul 1898 against a J. W. Birchfield. The actual trial transcript has not been found.

OBITUARY: Death Comes Suddenly to Earl B. Jones from the 23 Nov 1965 Evening Sentinel Newspaper of Shenandoah, Iowa
Earl B. Jones, 70, was found dead in the bathroom at the home of Mrs. Emma Reed, about 9:30 a.m. today where he had lived for a number of years. He had been a resident of Shenandoah for 53 years and was as widely known as any businessman in the city.
Mr. Jones had been to the Wright Barber shop where he
headquartered earlier in the morning and had gone home as was his usual habit. When he didn't return to the barbershop, Mr. Wright called the home. He got no answer and began a search which ended with the discovery of the body. Doctors said death was due to an apparent heart attack. Mrs. Reed has been in Omaha at the bedside of her brother, Earl Bergland.
Known as somewhat of a character, his rough humor endeared him to all. Few in Shenandoah stand so high as the little man who greeted all, kept windows and shoes sparkling, and had a passion for horse racing, and whistled unendlingly.
Mr. Jones was a member of the Ak-Sar-Ben*.
He is survived by a brother-in-law, Wilbur O. Lamb of Omaha.
Funeral services are pending.
The Buntz-Tawzer Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

My grandpa had a sister and two brothers (I have been told that one died when he was young). His sister lived in South Carolina. He had three children: Cheryl, Thomas, and Tami. He was married to Bonnetta Jean Stone.

Try the courthouse in Carter County, or Rowan County as they are very close together. Your Granpa was born in Carter so that the best bet I believe. Carter has the old books to look through as I have been down there once. I need to go back, but don't know when I will get there.

I had not recorded Mollie's husband, but from the clue that you gave John Newton Gilliam being your Grandfather, I would conclude that his father was Lon Gilliam enumerated in 1930 Logan County, West Virginia census.

Yeah, Im trying to find who my great grandma, Mollie E. Crockett, was married to. Ida was Mollie's mother. I guess I was hoping to find maybe someone who might know this side of my family. I knew my grandpa, John Newton Gilliam, but he never mentioned much about his father that I can remember. I found one census in West Virginia that could possibly be him but Im not sure.

I have been looking for my great grandmother for a long time.My father never knew his grandfather John B. Orick. He married Martha Birchfield. They were both born in 1827. She passed away in 1885. I am also looking for Birchfields in Arkansas. The first wife of my great grandfather, William Ira Heritage was Nancy Birchfield (25 Jan 1893 - 13 Feb 1914). The death certificate lists her parents as Jeff Birchfield and Fannie Railey. They lived in the Quachita/Nevada Co. area. Have you come across these names?

DOD Identifies Marine Casualty

The Department of Defense announced today the death of a Marine who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

Lance Cpl. Joshua H. Birchfield, 24, of Westville, Ind., died Feb. 19 while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Twentynine Palms, Calif.

Birchfields OR is it Burchfields?

My mother was Lorene Birchfield born in Bangs, Brown, Texas May 25, 1925 to Emma and I (believe) Louis Birchfield. Emma and Luis had Lorene, Margaret(I believe) and Sline.

I am in confusion as some of the records have it spelled Birch and some Burchfield.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated as I was adopted out by my father in 1955 and learning my true lineage is of great value to me and my children.

Hi, My grandfather was brother to Bill (George William) Birchfield. His name was Robert Lee and he was the eleventh child. I have a picture of the family in which my grandfather was the baby. There were 15 children. I just moved to Harrison, AR from California and some of my info is still waiting to be shipped.
