Hi, There were 2 Henry Birdsell's in Mauston at the same time. My Henry Jr was counted in the 1870 census in Rubicon, WI with his parents (Henry Sr. and Sarah Langworthy) 7/28/1870. He is the one who married Johanna Emmons. His occupation is listed as a telegraph operator. The other Henry Birdsell was living with a family in New Lisbon, WI in June,1870. Source - Federal Census - Juneau County, WI Roll 1720, Book 1, page 81 - near the middle of the page. My Henry Jr was 24 in 1870 and the other one from New Lisbon was 25 in 1870. Henry Sr. outlived his wife Sarah. But he was still living with Sarah in 1880 in Oconomowoc, WI. Henry Jr. died in 1895 and his wife Johanna Emmons outlived him. Jr and Sr are buried in Campbell Cemetery in La Crosse next to 2 of Henry Jr's children - Nettie and Grace. It sure is a wierd coincidence that your Henry Birdsell lived in La Crosse in 1867. I just don't know what to to say about the relationship. When I first found the Henry I think you are talking about I thought he was our guy. There is the possibility of poligamy - but I don't know. That is so interesting that Henry and Bina were married in La Crosse on the same day as Henry and Johanna were married in Mauston. Note - the Henry Birdsell living in Janesville in 1880, married to Joie (Johanna) is my line. I find it interesting that it says his birthplace is IL. My Henry was born in Cape Vincent, NY in 1848 - not IL as the census record indicates. We have verified this in Cape Vincent, NY. This is a puzzle, isn't it. The other interesting thing is that Johanna Emmons parents are buried in the New Lisbon Cemetery under a tree along the one side. Sorry so wordy - but this is very interesting to me. Let me know if you find anything else. Thanks, Julie
