I am trying to trace my direct line back from Florida to Alabama to Georgia and have hit a wall at William R Birge. He was born in Oct 1824 in Gwinnett Co Ga and married
Ziltha Yeomans on 9/8/1850 in Sumter GA. He moved to Dale Co Alabam in 1854 and served in the 57th Ala Infantry. After the war he moved to Holmes County Florida (in 1894) along with family. My line follows and includes David (William R's son) - John - Calvin - Douglas - Scotty (me). Any information on William R, or his line back would be of interest to me.

It is my thought that my line is part of the larger Birge line decended from Richard Birge, but cant get past the one generation from GA thru probably North Carolina then back to Conn.
