I am interested in contacting any descendants of the marriage of Richard BIRKETT and Thelma WILBERFORCE or his parents, John William BIRKETT and Christine McBURNIE.

I have no record of descendents for Richard and Thelma. They married in Liverpool, Sydney in April 1941. He was born in Wyuna, Vic in 1913, son of John William BIRKETT and Christine McBURNIE, who married in Picola Victoria in 1893.
Richard died in Aug 1982 in Jerry's Plains NSW.

Thomas BIRKETT - England to Australia

Hi, and good luck to all researchers!

Hope someone can point me in the right direction. I'm looking for a Thomas BIRKETT who emigrated with his family from England to Australia (around Glebe, NSW) sometime about the year 1930. I have been told they immigrated in 1932, but it could have been earlier.

At the time of his immigration, Thomas was married to a woman named Emily. Her maiden surname may have been THOMPSON; she had been married before to a man surnamed FUREY and had a son in 1911/1912 named Victor Albert/Albert Victor FUREY. Emily and Thomas never had any of their children of their own, and I have no death information on them.

I know this is a long shot, but if anyone has any information, I'd really appreciate it.

Am looking for the above. JWB was born in Liverpool in 1861 & emigrated to Va with parents & remained there. WCB was born in Va about 1871but returned to England with his father sometime between 1880 & 1889 & then returned to Va, Alexandria/Washington between 1901 & 1910.SPW, I believe half brother was born Liverpool 1889 & moved to the Wirral with his parents. JOHN BIRKETT, dealer in stock, Hazel Green; born in Lincolnshire, Eng., in 1846; came to America in 1852, and settled in Hazel Green. Married Jane Shellian, a native of this town; they have five children - Ida M., Lillie B., Phillip, Lucy, Oscar. He is Treasurer of the Village Board.

I'm trying to locate the birth of James BIRKETT. I know he was born around 1859 and later census data suggests this was in Braintree, Essex. In 1881 he had moved to Newcastle upon Tyne and married Margaret TURNER. His marriage cert states his father as Thomas BIRKETT. He died 4th May 1921 in Newcastle upon Tyne. I can see no birth record, or any sight on the 1871 or 1861 census.

ALLEN BIRKETT, deceased, was born in Goole, Yorkshire, England, in 1817. He married Sarah Cooper, also of Goole, and came in 1848 to America. He settled in Platteville, where he died May 10, 1869. His widow now resides with her brother-in-law, George Huntington, Esq., of Platteville.

I recently discovered that my Birkett ancestors may have come from Kendal, Westmorland. Can anyone help me confirm this?
To date, I have John Birkett, joiner, married to Agnes. They had three children, all christened in Kendal, Westmorland: John (chr. 16 April 1818), Ellen (chr. 27 May 1818) and Mary (chr. 29 January 1822). The family moved to Manchester some time before 1834.
I would like to confirm the occupation of the father and find Agnes's maiden name as well as date of marriage.

My husbands grandfather was Charles Birkett and he married Isabella Lamb (from Gretna Green) . His father was Charles Birkett who married Jane Seatree. And his father was Charles Birkett who married Elizabeth Robinson. This last Charles Birkett was a blacksmith...the one who married Jane was a carpenter or stone mason. All of the Birketts are from the Keswick area of Cumberland. Some are from Threlkeld.

I am trying to locate Anna Maria Birkett Smith in the 1880 census. She was born to John Birkett and Mary Moores in July 1843 in Salford, Lancashire, England and immigrated to the US around 1850. I believe I found her married to an engineer named William Smith, born about 1842 in New York. They had one son, William, born about 1864 in New York. Family lore says she moved to New Jersey. I know she was alive in November 1897. Does anyone know her?

Is anybody connected to the family of John Guy Giborne Birkett who was the son of Reginald Birkett of London. I think John was married to Elsie and was one of England's rugby greats - playing in the 1920s I think. He died in the 1960/70s or thereabout. I suspect they were related to my mother's family (possibly the Halpins or Bradleys) but trying to find the connection.

I am researching the family of John Birkett, a joiner, born around 1816 in Manchester or Salford, England. He married Mary Moores in the Collegiate Church in Manchester on 1 January 1838. They had three children: Henry Moores, James William and Anna Maria. The family emigrated to the United States and settled in New York City. John Birkett is said to have died in Cuba in 1858, but I can find no documentation of that. I would like to get in touch with anyone who is also researching this family.

Hi,

An old photograph of a family has been sent to me that has some connection to the Birketts, Carltons, McQuoids or Carswells. There are actually 25 or more but very poorly documented. If we can figure out any of them it could lead to alot of connections. The style would suggest c.1890.

2 questions -

1.It is labeled "Charleston Studios 58 Hunter Street Newcastle NSW". Is anyone familiar with this studio ? Is there a possibility the NSW stands for something other than New South Wales ? (The Birketts, while originally from Cumberland, lived in the Newcastle, Durham area c.1890)

2.Anyone recognize the names - Birkett, Carlton, McQuoid or Carswell - from Cumberland and Durham in the 1880s and '90s ?

Looking for descendants of William Bircket / Burkitt / Burkett / Berkitt that married Mary Ann Kershaw in Edwards County, Illinois in 1829.

I would like to know the names of Williams parents.

Mary Ann Kershaw was most likely born in Manchester, Lancashire, England. She was born in 1794 and was the daughter of John Peter Kershaw and Margaret Osswell. They migrated in 1818 to the Bon Pas Creek area of Edwards, Wabash and White Counties in Illinois.

I think that both the Kershaws and the Bircketts were Catholic families, and I suspect that we are related to other Bircketts in Richland, Wayne and Clay Counties of Illinois.

Any information would be appreciates, as I am attempting a Kershaw family website.

I am researching my great grandmother Margaret Scott who had for a very brief time married A Birkett in The Workington Area. Her second marriage was to a Thomas Plaskett in June of 1885. Unfortunately I cannot find her first marriage and do not know what Birkett's first name was. But she is listed as a widower on her second marriage. If this matches anyone records would appreciate hearing of it. Thanks!

Searching for information on James Alexander Birkett.
James was born abt 1828, he was a master mariner from
Liverpool, Eng. He Married Sarah Ellen Roch/Roach.
2nd Oct 1879. I believe he may have been married
previously to Henrietta Prentice.
James and Sarah had a son James Alfred Birkett who
married Florence Barnes and they came to Australia.
Any information would be greatly welcomed.
