My g-g-grandfather was William Washington Birt; born 6/28/1850 at Newton, Wales. He and his family came to Danville, PA where William married 11/24/1870 Sarah Brown Wright. William was a blacksmith and an inventor. He died March 1924 in Berwick, PA. His daughter, Annie, was my g-grandmother.
William was the son of William Birt, born 2/26/1828 in Bristol, England and died 8/16/1872 in Danville, PA. He married Mary Ricketts, born 2/28/1831 in Bolton, England. She died in 1914 in Berwick, PA.
I've often heard a story about my g-g-grandfather's father, was the grandson of a English nobleman who had gotten a servant girl pregnant and the family disowned him. I don't know if there is any truth to that story but, nonetheless, I was told of the Birts ties to the royal family of England. How so remains a mystery to me.
If anyone has information they would like to share on this family, please email me. Thank you.
