June 20, 1913

Mrs. Barbara Theurer, nee Bischoff, was born in Baden, Germany, March 17, 1836. She came to this country in 1854, with her father, four brothers and a sister, all of whom preceded her into the Great Beyond.

She made her home in Chicago until her marriage to Mr. John Theurer, at Princeton, Illinois, December 25, 1856. Mr. and Mrs. Theurer located at Mendota, Illinois, residing there and in that vicinity for thirty-five years. From Illinois, they moved into Guthrie county, Iowa. Here they established themselves on a farm where they made their home continuously until the death of Mr. Theurer in 1909. This dispensation abrupted a relationship that had been maintained with singular devotion and mutual loyalty for fifty years.

Fourteen children crowned this union, nine of whom are living—three sons: John of Lockwood, Missouri, Charlie of Casey, Iowa, William of Wellington, Kansas—six daughters: Kate, Anna and Julia of Lohrville, Iowa; Gertrude of Lake City; Carrie of Casey, Iowa; Adaline of Caldwell, Idaho; and a step-daughter, Mrs. Jacob Croisant, of Casey, Iowa. All of these were present at the funeral except Adaline, resident as above noted, at Caldwell, Idaho.

Mrs. Theurer has been ill, suffering extensively during these long and weary months. Her release came at 10:30 p.m., Monday evening, June 9, 1913, when she passed away at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Croisant, in the 78th year of her age. Funeral services were held at the Croisant home, Wednesday, June 11th, Rev. N. R. Miles of Lenox, Iowa, officiating. Interment in the Menlo cemetery.

The Vindicator tenders its earnest sympathy to the bereaved sons and daughters, mourning the loss of their venerable and beloved mother.
