Searching for a male descendant of Samuel Bishop of
Chester, PA ca. 1690-1720. His four sons were John, Joseph, Samuel and Charles. I am willing to pay for a 25 marker DNA test, you must be a direct descendant and have documentation. Trying to prove/disprove the link between the Bishop's of Chester and Stephen and James Bishop of Hancock Co. GA.
Jacob Frederick BISHOP (b. 1840, Germany)

I am looking for information about the parents of Jacob Frederick BISHOFF (changed to BISHOP during World War I). He was born November 11, 1840 in Germany and moved to the United States sometime before 1864. He served in the Civil War from 8/17/1864 until 5/19/1865 in Company B, 5th regiment.

He was then married to Rosine STURM, born March 23, 1850 in Brachfeld, Germany. They got married on January 17, 1873 in Newark, NJ.

Children from this marriage include:
Frederick O. Bishop, Arthur E. Bishop, George H. Bishop, Charles F BISHOP, William F. Bishop, Walter M. Bishop (my great-grandfather) Rosina, Emma and Bertha.

Jacob died Sept. 29, 1903 in Providence, RI and Rosine died May 1922 also in Providence, RI.

Any information about the parents of Jacob or Rosine would be extremely helpful. I am currently enrolled in a geneaology class and am researching my ancestors.

Kirstin Ferreira
Researching: BISHOP (Bischoff), Christmann, Ferreira, Tavares, Roun, Holden, Furtado, Perreira
http://www.familytreedna.com/
http://www.familytreedna.com/surname_det.asp?group=Bishop

This is to determine paternal lineage and common ancestry on the male line.

I descend from William L. Bishop, b. in GA, Jan.31, 1823 and d. in Cobb County, GA on Feb.4, 1905 and cannot proove any ancestor beyond him. I believe that his parents were both born in SC, per the Census of 1900...I'm particularly interested in hearing from anyone that can proove their line further back... As well as anyone in these particular lines:
Augustus W. Bishop
Asa Bishop
Ephraim Lewis Bishop
James Bishop
James B. Bishop
John Bishop
Joshua Bishop
Jones Bishop
Littleberry Bishop
Reuben Bishop
Stephen Bishop
Thomas D. Bishop
Claborn Bishop

I believe the brothers of my William L. Bishop to be:
Benjamin F. Bishop of Cobb County, GA
Hezekiah Bishop of Cobb/Fulton County, GA
Joseph Asbury Bishop of Cobb County, GA/Shelby County, IL and Collin County, TX

Please think about joining me in my search!
Thank you,
Ben Bishop,
Marietta, GA

A friend found a suitcase full of pictures and letters in her barn in Independence IA. The most common families seem to be Bishop, Jennings, Armstead. We would like to see these pictures where they belong. Some of them date back to the 1800s. You can email me at jimandjune@jjmccoy.com. Hope we can find them a home.

I went with my parents to an auction for the estate of Lee R & Myra Jane "Sybil" Bishop. The auction was located at their home in Valliant, McCurtain County, Oklahoma. My father bid on a box that was sold with several other boxes as a "lot". In one of these boxes were family photos (i.e. Oswell, Davis, Warren). My mother has tried to locate a family member in the area that would like to have these, but has found no one. If anyone is interested in these pictures, please contact me and I will to get you more info on this family. The pictures will go to the first person offering to pay the shipping.

Thanks,
LuAnn

I’m searching for any Bishop’s in Georgia. Maybe I can find someone who can help me piece together the information I have. I am in the process of researching my Bishop lineage and I don’t have a lot to go on. Anyone who thinks they may be able to help please do! I appreciate any help. The line I have stops on Marshal(l).

I am trying to find out if Calvin was married before he died on Jan 6, 1880. In the 1880 his parents Andrew B. and Lizzie Bishop live two houses away from a Margret Bishop who is listed as a window with 5 children.

Can anyone confirm that these two were in fact married?

Thanks,
Amir Dekel - http://dream-of-genea.blogspot.com

I am seeking information about the family of Jemima Bishop and Jeremiah Stivers. Jemima was the daughter of John Bishop of Eastchester and Phillipsburgh in Westchester County, New York, and his wife Susannah _______. She was born possibly about 1735 and married Jeremiah Stivers, probably after 1757. Who were their children, who were Jeremiah's parents, and might Jemima and Jeremiah have had a daughter Susanna born in 1767?

James Taylor Bishop/James Victor Bishop

I have been searching for my husband's great-grandfather and great uncle(?). I have had no luck at all. I have found a 1930 census with both of them and a wife/mother. Before then, nothing, and since the 1940 census will not be out for 4 more years, nothing after. I am stuck. I know that James Taylor was born around 1907 in Louisville, Mississippi. I also know that he was married twice, Flora Chesteen and Anglene Crowell. I know that he had 2 children, James Victor and Ruby Louise. I also know that he died September 22, 1940. My husband's grandmother was only 3 when James Taylor passed away and her mother did not speak of him very much. Some of this information I was able to find on Ancestry.com but now I am at a stand still. As for James Victor, the only thing that I have been able to find on him was a 1930 census. From that I was able to find that he was born in July 1928. I know that he had a wife named Julie and died sometime in the 1960's. I also know that he was in the military but I do not know what branch or anything. As for the rest I am not sure.
If anyone can help me figure out a way to find anymore information that would be wonderful. I am really stuck. Thank you so much.

ANNA "ANNIE" BELLE (HAND) BISHOP, b. NJ

I'm looking for the parents of ANNA "ANNIE" BELLE HAND, b. January 1857 in NJ; married first, abt. 1881, GARNER TULLIS BISHOP, SR. They resided in Philadelphia, PA and had three children: LAURA E. BISHOP, LESLIE G. BISHOP (male child), and GARNER T. BISHOP, JR. The widow, ANNA "ANNIE" BELLE (HAND) BISHOP married second, MILTON HAND. They resided in West Cape May, Cape May County, NJ with ANNIE's three children from her first marriage.
I found a census with an ANNA B. HAND, b. in NJ, at the correct time period, whose parents were RICHARD T. & SHERILOTTIE HAND, from the Village of Ewings Neck, Maurice River Township, Cumberland County, NJ. However, I have yet to make the connection between these two Anna B. Bishops. Are they one and the same?

Bishop Ancestors

3 years later I am still searching for ancestors of my grandfather Benjamin Bishop whose father was Frank E. Bishop. the information we have states Frank was born in WI but no birth certificate. Frank was born c 1851 in WI, and on census reports stated that his father was from VT or MA or CONN and mother from PA. Frank married Sarah Jane Wilson in WI in 1871. The moved from WI to Iowa and ended up in SD on donation land claim where children were born.
His death certificate shows father's name as Andrew mother as Julia but that could be inaccurate. Family members thought Frank's father was named John. Andrew/John went to Nevada or CA to look for silver mine. He wrote home stating they had found a strike and was never heard from again.
Do not know if Frank had siblings.

Eleasar Bischoppe 1682\1683 - Born where?

I see Eleasar in many family trees as being born in New London, Connecticut but I just got the family genealogy from my Mom and in it Eleasar Bischoppe is said to have been born on the Island of Jersey, in the Channel Islands, England.

This is from the "Genealogy of the Family of Bishop descendants of Eleasar Bischoppe of New London, Connecticut through his son John Bishop".

Here is the full entry:

"1. ELEASAR BISHOPPE, born on the Island of Jersey, in the Channel Islands, England, approximately 1682, died Sept. 3, 1755 in New London, Conn. He was a wheelwright by trade. There are two stories told of how Eleasar came to Connecticut. One story states that he ran away at age fourteen. The other story says that he was kidnapped by a sea captain who wanted his dog. Richard Dart, a tailor, took the boy and raised him as his own son. Eleasar married Sarah Dart, Richard's daughter. She was born June 10th, 1681. They had issue: Timothy, Peter, 2. John Samuel, Clement, Sarah, Mary, Nicholas, Eleasar, Joshua"

The numbering is the way the book tracks descendants.

The copy of the genealogy that I have mentions that the original genealogy has 136 pages and every member of the 8th generation has a copy. Does anyone own one of these?

I'm curious about whether the Eleasor information has been confirmed and where folks are finding Anthony Bishop and Sarah Wilcox as his parents.

Thanks!

Margaret Bishop b. 1821 m. George Alexander Hughey

I am trying to find out who the are the parents of Margaret Bishop (b. 1821 - S.C. according to the 1850 Marion Co. Alabama census). She married George Hughey in Oct 1838 in Alabama. In the 1850 Marion Co. census George and Margaret Bishop Hughey are living three dwellings down from Allen and Margaret "Peggy" Lewis Bishop. Margaret Lewis Bishop is the sister of George Hughey's mother Mary "Polly" Lewis Hughey. I am sure that Margaret Bishop Hughey is from the Allen Bishop line but I can not make a connection. Margaret Bishop Hughey was my ggg-grandmother. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Olivia Bae Bishop Gardner 1926-2008

Olivia Bae Bishop Gardner 1926 ~ 2008 Olivia Bae Bishop Gardner passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, February 19, 2008. She was an uncommon woman, spiritually tuned, intellectually astute, and intensely compassionate. She celebrated life and invariably brought light into the lives of people around her. Bae was born March 10, 1926 to Van Dyne Jones Bishop and Bennett J. Bishop in Hinckley, Utah. The family lived there until 1942, when they moved to Salt Lake City. Bae attended East High School, where she played flute in the orchestras and marching band and excelled academically. She married Kelly Gardner, her handsome pilot sweetheart, just returned from World War II, on December 7, 1945 in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they reared their three children, the focus and joy of their lives. Bae began working at the Hinckley Institute of Politics at the University of Utah in 1968 and served as Associate Director, loving and inspiring students for 23 years. In a labor of love, she later authored the biography of Robert H. Hinckley, friend and founder of the Institute. Bae was a renaissance woman, a voracious reader from childhood, a scholar of the arts, gifted writer and musician, avid ornithologist, political enthusiast and patriot, and loving worrier extraordinaire. A valiant and devoted member of the LDS church, Bae served in many positions, most notably as ward organist for over 25 years. Survived by sister Dorothy (Roy) Fisher, brother Orion (Sue) Bishop; husband M. Kelly Gardner; son Alan (Robyn) Gardner; daughters Dawn (David) Curtis and Anne Gardner; seven grandsons- Benjamin (Michelle) Curtis, Alexander and Samuel Curtis, Kelly Jay (Jenni) Gardner, Bryan, Hayden and Bradley Gardner; and a new great-grand-daughter Ava May Gardner, all of Salt Lake City. Funeral services will be held Saturday February 23, 2008, 1 p.m. at Foothill 7th Ward, 2215 East Roosevelt Ave. (1445 South). There will be a viewing from 11 a.m. -12:30 p.m. preceding the funeral services. Online guestbook at www.russonmortuary.com "Don't forget who loves you!" In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Bae B. Gardner Internship in Public Policy at the Hinckley Institute of Politics.
Published in the Salt Lake Tribune from 2/21/2008 - 2/22/2008.
