Hi there relatives! I am fortunate enough to have been given a book on my Bissen ancestors, put together by relatives Edward
Halbach, Cecilia Halbach and Martha (Bissen) Heinrichs.
It is a huge volume going back to & starting with Petrus Bissen (of Luxembourg). His Ninth child, Johann is the beginning of our
lineage in "The Bissen Book". It is a truly amazing
history of our families. Elizabeth Bissen, b. Jan. 26, 1858 in Brachtenbach, Luxembourg married Michael John Schammel, b.
July 4, 1853 in Hanish, Luxembourg (near the French Border).
He came to America when he was 17. His brother John and sister died during WWII. Michael and Elizabeth lived on a farm
near Rose Creek, MN. and retired into the city of Rose Creek.
Michael died on Nov. 25, 1933 and Elizabeth died on April 1, 1947 in Austin Minn. Their 12 (!!!) kids are: Theresa, Peter,
Frank, John, Henry, Edward, Nicholas, William, Albert, Mathilda,
Arthur and Fred.
I see Gordon Golden listed as married to Mary Kay Verlinde (daughter of Margaret (Shammel) and Charles Verlinde. Margaret
being the daughter of Francis Schammel (b. Oct. 20, 1882) and
Mary Cress (b. April 7, 1894).
It goes on and on.......Johann Bissen in 1776 and his decendants to 1996. All of them. WOW!! My own great Grandfather,
Peter, (son of Theadore, son of Johann), had 12 sons (my grandfather,
Michael being one) AND 4 daughters. They say he died of causes unknown. If I had given birth to his 16 kids, I can think of
how HE died....tee hee.
There is listed all Shammels in here starting with Michael John.
If you want to know about getting one of these books, or more info out of it, feel free to email me @ swifty@dcsi.net. This stuff
is SO COOL!
I'm in Northern California in the Sierra Mountains.
Talk to me.........Denise
