I would like to know if you have any type of proof that Judith was David's wife? She made her will in a different county down east below Wilson Co. and listed an unknown female in her will. I have NEVER been able to find the origin of our Bissett line, where they came from before settling in Nash Co. NC.
I have researched my line back to David Bissett born @1749. He was married to Judith and had sons named David, Lowowick, John, and Joseph. I have not been able to find a country of origin myself.
My father was born and raised in that area. They had an old house and worked on a farm. I have only a hand full of pictures of this house. Many of the family were in the military for some time and I have traced many in my family line back through the civil war. I would love to know if any of the pictures or items are from any of my family.
Bissett Line of Florence, Florence Co.,SC , USA 19-20C

I'm doing research on a Bissett line of Florence (Florence County, SC).

Thomas Bissett (13APR1856-07DEC1922) married Mathilda Kach (16Jan1856-23NOV1933). Both are buried at Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Son Archibald Bissett(01NOV1889-SEP1973).

Daughter Anna Marie Bissett (abt 1896-???). I know Anna married first to Henry Baylis Wessinger. This was Henry's 2nd marriage (first was to Phoebe Ruth Smith). Henry is buried with his first wife at her family (also at Mt. Hope Cemetery.) I think Anna may have remarried after Henry Wessinger died in 1938.

If anyone reading this does obituary or marriage lookups I would appreciate any information on any Wessinger or Bissett weddings; and/or copies of obituaries for:

Archibald Bissett - pretty sure he died near the end of September 1973. His obit may be in the local Florence newspaper from between 25 September and 5 November 1973.

Mathaldia Bissett - her death date is November 22, 1933.

Thomas Bissett - his death date is December 10, 1922.

I will gladly reimburse for expenses related to the information requested. Thanks in advance for any possible assistance.

Richard

Hello Norman D and Normal L,

I am Joe Bissett and I administer the Family Tree DNA Bissett surname database. I am happy to do a few look ups for each of you if you would like. I am sending the 1930 Evart, MI census image by e-mail attachment. I need some idea of where Norman D's family was living in 1930, as there are many Bissetts enumerated in Ohio that year.

But MOST IMPORTANT. You both say you are the "last of the line". I can't tell you how important it is for each of you to submit a 37 marker Y-DNA test to our project.

http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Bisset%20and%20Variants/...

As you can see, we have already isolated two groups; the Irish line and my Aberdeenshire line. For my line we have 5 of us, with a sixth having tested. Of the first five, not a one of us had any direct clue that we are related, despite us having proven paper research back into the 1700-1600s. I have been amazed at how the recent DNA advances have so dramatically influenced family research.

If you are willing to submit a test and help us move the Bissett clan even further, please let me know at my e-mail address: jbissett@hot-peppers.com

I look forward to hearing from each of you.

Joe Bissett

Re: Bisset DNA project finds another match

Let me applaud Alexander's message, and add just a bit. There are two other "cousins" who have been positively linked to the same line as Alexander, Jeremy and me. What is very interesting is that one of these folks has a solid paper trail completely in the Midlothian area, as far back as he has been able to find sources. So we now have a completely new and divergent research path to follow, as there is no doubt that we are related. More importantly, the slight mutation pattern ties this person more to Alexander than to me, suggesting that there is one "brother" who sired that branch, while Jeremy and I were sired by another.

What is really amazing to me is that not one of us had any paper research that tied us together before we embarked on our Y-DNA quest. Now we KNOW that we are cousins.

I realize that many folks are like me, living on a fixed income, and that the cost of the Y-DNA test may be a barrier. I suggest that when one considers the cost of gasoline, the costs associated with obtaining LDS microfilms, and the time involved, the one time cost of this test may be equivalent. Everything to do with taking the test is done through the mails.

If you are a living Bisset male who has spent hard earned money and time on family tree research, your breakthrough may just be waiting for you at Family Tree DNA.

Joe Bissett, FTDNA Bissett Project administrator

Bisset DNA project finds another match

Another success, the latest Bisset male to submit a test to the project has come back with an exact match to the project co-ordinator Joe Bissett, which is also a 99% match to my own lot.

The exciting thing about this is that the paper trails we so far proved for each line gets tricky around the 1770-1780s with no strong evidence of links. We know that Jeremy's line and Joe's line both end up within a square mile of each other with families living either side of the River Don at Dyce/Fintray parish border. However whilst we had candidate parents no definite link.

We now KNOW for sure that Joe and Jeremy are definitely related and descend from the same Bisset male's line. KNOWING that and having a very close geographical match means we can now revisit the paper records and fill in the blanks from possibles we'd previously discarded.

Would YOUR research into YOUR Bisset line benefit from finding a living DNA matched cousin who is also researching their family history? The more people who participate the easier making matches becomes and the more we can narrow down where to look in the paper records. Plus knowing you are a blood cousin of another researcher means there is joint incentive to share research and find the missing link.

The Bisset DNA project is at http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Bisset%20and%20Variants/... and you can view the results so far at http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Bisset%20and%20Variants/...

Don't worry if you don't understand the numbers it makes sense when you join the project. To be tested all it takes is a living Bisset(t) male to join the project and take a test which only involves sticking a cotton bud from the test kit in your mouth for a couple of seconds to collect a sample and sending it to be tested.

Please consider taking part, the more testers we have the more links we can make between different branches of Bissets.

Hi Bonnie,

If you know of one or more living Bisset(t) surname males from your line, I suggest that Y-DNA testing can potentially open the door to finding out the origin of your line.

FULL DISCLOSURE: I started, and am the project administrator for the Family Tree DNA Bisset(t) surname project.

http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Bisset%20and%20Variants/...

I am #154941 in the top (green) group labeled Aberdeen01. As you can see, Y-DNA has already identified three of my "cousin" lines that I had no clue descended from our common male ancestor prior to testing. A fifth member has the first 12 markers identified, and looks as though he will become my closest "blood" cousin. We are very excited to see his remaining markers.

I hope this note provides you some interesting information, and that you will contact me off list for additional discussion.

Joe Bissett jbissett@hot-peppers.com

It is a photo of a Mrs. Bissett, taken either in New Glasgow or Antigonish, Nova Scotia in July of 1894.

Possibly of Picture of Elizabeth C. Grant (1850-1897), wife of Dr. Henry Edward Bissett (1843-1882), daughter of Duncan and Rebecca Grant. But I am only spectulating on this.

Mind you there were other Bissetts in the area at the time, including possibly the New Brunswick Bissett line. Love to hear from anyone who may have an idea of whom the picture is.

I could not find Charles using the index in the 1850 census. after he died Sarah remarried- John Whitlock. In 1860 Sarah and John lived in South Brunswick. ( I did find some Mershons- maybe related?) In the census Sarah children by Charles had Whitlock as a last name- which they do sometimes. I actually went back in 1850 and went page by page to look for Charles- in case the name was really messed up- but nothing.
Jane Bisset Fletcher shortly after 1878 (when my grat grandmother was born) the family moved to Jersey City. yet in 1890 she bought a family plot at Elmwood Cemetery, N. Bruskwick. some of her young children are buried there and 2 grandchildren. On the monument there she had other young children names who died before 1890 put on. Also her mother Sarah but not her dad's name. Her husband who died in 1899, his name is there. Jane remarried in 1890 but is not buried here. In 1903 she joined the Reformed Church in New Brunswick.

She was married in New Brunswick. I have no clue as to what church as I thought tha would help. I've tried looking at churches and list of ministers but not all churches have that on line. I also can't quiet read tne name. Rev. C R Haitra--o. I thought this might give a clue. (my one friend thinks it's Hastings but I'm don't think so. I know Jane's 7th child, my great grandmother live in New Brunswick. I think Jane's mother live in Monroe at the time of her death in 1880.

A large family of Bissetts has been in Middlesex County NJ since the end of the 17th century. Since you have listed the exact birth and death dates of your ancestor Charles Bissett, is it possible that you also know exactly where he was born and where he died? In my fairly complete database of the Middlesex NJ Bissetts, I do not have a Charles Bissett b 1828, d 1856, nor do I have a Jane Bissett b 1852. My guess is that these Bissetts are not related to those who lived in and around what is now called South River, formerly Washington; or in Old Bridge, East Brunswick, or North Brunswick NJ. If you have any more information about them, please let me know, and I'll look further. By the way, many of the records spell the surname Bisset (one final "t"), or even Biset or Bisett--and those are the misspellings that are close!

Hi there. Looking for any information on Peter Bissett from Balbriggan, Ireland whom I believe to be a brother of my great grandfather and who was "landed" at Ellis Island on the Baltic ex Liverpool on the 9th March 1907 aged 23 years. His address on arrival was shown as J.P.
