Jean Baptiste Bissonette was my great grand-uncle born 8 March 1843 in Jericho, Chittenden Co., VT. He married Octave Clement 14 July 1867 at North Adams, Berkshire Co., MA. Jean Baptiste died 21 October 1931 at Pawtucket, Providence Co., RI. His parents were Pierre Bissonette and Scholastique Poudrette married 21 Nov 1826 at St-Mathias, Rouville Co., QC.

There is a possiblity that Your Jean Babtist, born in Cohoes NY abt 1847, is the son of Joseph Bisonnet and Julia Sasseville.(Daughter of Jacques Sasseville and Marie Veronque Blanchette) Julia was Joseph's second wife, The 1850 census shows the spelling of the last name as Brisnet.
The son Anthony is really Antoine Sasseville from Julia's first marriage? Other children from the second marriage are Israel, Hyacinth,Maglore and Moise. Joseph and julia returned to Canada about 1856 or so. Joseph Bissonnette died and Julia remaried Joseph Beaudry. Also, in Cohoes in the 1850's were Josephs, brother Moses born abt.1826 married Julia Kagal.Their children were Julia and Joseph.
I am looking for a picture of Julia Sasseville Bissonnett.

Anaclet's parents are Antoine Bissonnette and Elisabeth Roi m. 13 Feb 1808 at L'Acadie. This can be followed back 4 more generations to original immigrant Jacques Bissonnet who married Marguerite Collet on 19 Nov 1670 at Boucherville.

Pierre Pepin married Marguerite A. La Jeunesse on August 25, 1857 in Norte Dame, Quebec, Quebec, Canada, daughter of Laurent Audibert-Lajeunesse and Madeleine Charette.

The Kermit Bissonnette I am looking for moved from California to Michigan in late 1940s. He had a younger sister named Carmen. He wanted to be in law enforcement when he left California. This sure sounds like the correct Kermit to me. (He was born about 1919) - she was born about 1927. I have no other family information - if there are others siblings, I am unaware.

I am so sad that I left this site unattended for 5 years. I just found your response tonight. I'd love to hear from you again. I wonder, were they really from Sweden? Thank you for any help you can offer.

Thanks for your reply but I do not think there is a connection. Our Henry did not have a brother named Joseph and Henry was born in Vercheres, Quebec. If he and Louisa had kids, they would have been born in MA.

I have Bissonnette ancestors that moved to Hudson and Marlboro, MA around the turn of the century. Levi (b. 1870 in Hudson; m. Delia Phaneuf in 1891), Zevie (b. 1872; m. George Martel in Marlboro in 1892), Igselia (b. 1874), Alvia Alma (b. 1876 in Hudson; m. Henry LaFrance in 1896), and Lodevie Clovis (b. 1886; m. Ida M. Boudreau). Any relation?

It's a long-shot, but was Henry the brother of Joseph (b. Oct 4, 1848)? His kids were born in Magog, QC. Half moved to Worcester or Springfield; the other half moved to Claremont, NH.

I do not know or have information on the Bissonnette couple that you are researching. Our Bissonnettes stayed in the Akron area. I know there is another Bissonnette family in Toledo but it is not connected to our line, as far as I know. Sorry I couldn't help. Have you checked the Rutherford B. Hayes Library for obits for that area? You may find the info you need by using that source.

I made a discovery this weekend regarding Henry. I found his death record on Family Search under Massachusetts Deaths. I know this is him since his parents were listed correctly. He died in Worcester, MA on 17 Novemeber 1898. His wife was Louisa Garant, the daughter of Louis Garant and Sophie Dupuis. Now, I just need to find out if they had children. I will keep you posted!

Wilma C. Pepin-Ritchott 1936 - 2010 CHICOPEE - Wilma C. (Bissonnette) Pepin-Ritchott, 73, was called safely home on April 6, 2010. She was born on September 7, 1936 in Springfield, a daughter to the late Albert and Winifred (McCormick) Bissonnette. Wilma worked as a deli clerk for Big Y Supermarket for 15 years before she retired. She enjoyed bowling, playing Bingo and traveling, especially to the beach or to Vegas. She loved to play cards and mostly enjoyed spending time with her family at family gatherings. She leaves her loving husband Kenneth Ritchott of Chicopee; her son Tony Pepin and his wife Dorothy of Wilbraham; two daughters Sharlene Pepin of Chicopee and Paula Pepin of Springfield; her brother Albert Bissonnette and his wife Amy of Springfield and her sister Kathy Riley of Chicopee. Thanks for your reply. It did sound plausible that the Henry in Henry Co. could be the one but I was odd that no one had any recall of a relative living that close to the rest of the family in Ohio. Like I mentioned in my first post, my husband's great uncle, who would have been the nephew of Henry, told us that he moved to Wisconsin. Maybe I'll investigate that one further.
Oh well... I guess this is what happens with research. It was good while it lasted. I appreciate your interest in this family. Please share anything you find and I will do the same.

It was mostly based on a process of elimination. This was the only Henry Bissonnette of the approximate right age married in Ohio. No other Henrys or Alfreds or Narcisse (Nelson) were found of the right age in other states with any variations of the Bissonnete name such as Bisonet, Bisnet, Biznet, etc. Obviously, I got the Ohio Henry connection wrong. One other possiblity is that a N. Bissonette married Theotiste Dandurand 29 Jun 1885 in Fond du Lac Co. , Wisconsin. Unfortunately this "N. Bissonette" is not found in any census records so age cannot be verified.

I have just located the obituary of Henry Bissonnette of Henry Co., OH. I think we are talking about two different Henrys here. The Henry who lived in Henry Co. died in August of 1934. His obit states that he was born in St. Eugene, Canada on 2 Jan 1858. It lists his siblings as: sisters - Flory, A.P., Carolyn and Mrs. Abe Champion; brothers Alex and Stephen. This is the same Henry who married Anna Decker and had the following children: Alex, Robert, Zella, and Bessie. How did you link the Henry of Henry Co., OH to be the son of Narcisse Bissonnette and Luce Dupont?

Angelina and Ardina lived together in Fitchburg, MA working as weavers in the cotton mills. They are found in the 1900 and 1910 census. No record of Elise in Massachusetts. Only Ardina is found in the 1920 census at Fitchburg living alone. This suggests that Angelina may have died between 1910 and 1920.
By the 1930 census, Ardina is no longer found in Fitchburg. There are no Bissonnette deaths posted on line for Bissonnettes who lived in Fitchburg in the 1900s in the Massachusetts State vital records database. But, I have found these records to be incomplete.

My husband is the great grandnephew of Henry, so the connection is close. We have a copy of his Declaration of Intention since it also lists his brother George. Do you have any death dates for the sisters Elise, Ardina and Angelina? We believe they stayed in the Fitchburg, MA area and probably never married. I believe they worked in the textile mills. We have pictures of them as elderly women. George and Henry left MA and came to Akron, OH with their father, Narcisse. Narcisse's brother Antoine Arthur also came with them. I do not know where he ended up settling. With your info, we now know that Henry settled in Henry Co., OH. He lived relatively close to Akron but the family must not have stayed in contact with him. It looks like he became a farmer. Maybe there wasn't available land in the Akron area. George, his father, and uncle all worked at Whitman Barnes (later called the Akron Knife Works), using a knife-grinding skill they brought from Canada. They also worked for this company in Fitchburg. Both Narcisse and George also worked as barbers in Akron.

I am the 4th cousin 2 times removed of Henry Alfred Narcisse Bissonnette.

We are both direct descendants of the first Bissonnet immigrant to Canada in this line, Jacques Bissonnet (1645 - 1723).

My grandfather was Louis Bissonnette b. 1886, born in Ham Nord, PQ., son of Theodore Louis Bissonnette and Emilie Duquette. Is this the same tree? MY grandfather later moved to Manchester NH in the 1930's.

I was reading your post and noticed the sub district name of Ham North (Fr. Nord) and was interested because my grandfather Louis Bissonnette was born there around 1886. Any connection? He had around 15 siblings also. His father was Theodore and mother was Emilie.

William Frederick Bissonnette(Oct 19, 1898-Nov 1971) I believe he was born in Connecticut but his parents were born in Canada and immigrated to CT.

William was married to Eva Larose(Aug 17, 1891-Jan 9, 1995)

Although I found the actual Census and is says Phillias was 41 and Malvina, 37

Anyway here is the information I had on my last thread.

I am looking for history on my family and maybe to go even farther back through generations.

William Frederick Bissonnette(Oct 19, 1898-Nov 1971) I believe he was born in Connecticut but his parents were born in Canada and immigrated to CT.

William was married to Eva Larose(Aug 17, 1891-Jan 9, 1995)

Parents of William - Father: Phillias Bissonnette(Jan1859-unknown)
Mother: Melvina Pepin(Oct1862-unknown)
Had 11 children as of immigrating

I thought William was born in CT But if someone could look at the census and help me make some sense of it please:

The last name of the family is Willi with his birthdate so he would have been born in Canada and immigrated at age 1 I believe.
