I have the Binder of this book. I helped to partially write the book, as it was.I added much to this Book and never did get it as a finished product.The book I have is in a binder, and loose leaf.I married into the Biswell Family.Was married to Maurice Berlan Biswell, of Corning California.Most of his relatives either were born in this area around Tehama, Butte, and Glenn Counties of California. Most were born in a small place called Chrome, and Paskenta.

hi Kerry my grandmother was Susan Quarington..Gordon and Elsie Biswell were my father's cousins..Alec and Derek Biswell, their sons, were my second cousins I knew them all and lived near and with them sometimes..Ambrose Biswell was my fathers uncle...we stayed with him in Waddesdon very often...I live in Australia now.

Hi Ellen, I hope you are still on here. I am still trying to get a copy of the Biswell book, but have not been able to get incontact with anyone about it.
My Biswell branch is therough Jeremiah Biswell and Mary Huff. through their son, Henry Norval Biswell and Susannah Holiday, to their son, James Monroe Biswell and Susan Jones, to my gr grandmother, Elizabeth Violetta "Lizzie" Biswell, who married William "Bill" Brown in Clinton Co., IL. Their son, William McKinley "Willis" Brown, was my grandfather. He married Bessie Lennie Lewis in AR and they moved to MO. Their daughter, Frances Marion Josehine Brown, was my mother.

I am looking for Ambrose Biswell bn abt 1875 in Northwood Middlesex and Lily Quarrington bn 1872. Particularly looking for Gordon Biswell bn abt 1901 and his wife Elsie Biswell. Gordon was my mother's god father. Their son Alec bn abt 1926 is my mother's cousin. Lily Qs sister Harriet Susan Quarrington is my paternal great grand mother.

Hi, I am related to this Biswell family and have been researching them for awhile.
According to the 1860 census, Forney was a male and was born in 1859 in Randolph Co., MO. He is on the 1860 census in Randolph Co., MO. He is 1 year old.

Do you know who your Rebecca Biswell's parents were? I have Biswell's in my family that were from St. Frncois Co., MO and in Monroe and Clinton counties in IL.
My gr, gr grandfather was James Monroe Biswell, born in 1835 in MO. He moved to Monroe Co., IL. His daughter, Elizabeth, born in 1860 in IL was my gr grandmother.
Some of them originally came from Kentucky and some went on to California and Idaho. Thanks

Mary has since passed away but you can reach her daughter at 405 217-9211. Her name is Sydney J Phillips

If you can't reach her call her other daughter at 760-1501. Her name is Carol Strassner. She is the one I actually called initially. Sydney is the one that mailed the book to me.

The book is wonderful.

I don't know what part of the Biswell family you are from but if you are interested there is a collection of Biswell Family Papers, 1795-1912 (Musdp Collection Ba) at the Pickler Memorial Library Truman State University. These are the gold rush letters.

Check WWW.library.truman.edu/manuscripts/biswell_family_papers.htm. I found this in Google so if you have a problem with the web site email them at speccoll@truman.edu.

When I went in to Google I typed in Biswell. I can't remember how many pages I went through before I found the library but I know is was a number of them.

If you can get on the web it will show you a sample of the writings so you can see if you would be interested.

I bought the collection and reading the letters was like going back in time and being right there. I will say one thing they are a little hard to read in that they wrote so differently then we do now but Elaine Doak who is Head Special Collections Librarian/Archivist was very helpful.

I had a number of questions on about 17 letters and she replied within two days with every question answered and typed out a couple of letters for me.

Biswell/Brown Drowning

I have gotten some information on these boys from my cousin Bonnie. She has an Obituary that says that the thee boys, Arthur and Aaron Biswell and Archie Brown, died from Spotted Fever. However other newspaper accounts say that there was no spotted fever in the Ripley Co., MO area at the time. Family legend has that they all three drowned. Anyway. That is what she has officially. Where are your Biswell's from? I have Biswell's in my family. My gr, grandmother was Elizabeth "Lizzie" Violetta Biswell. She was born in 1860 in Monroe Co., IL. Her father was James Monroe Biswell and her mother was Susan Jones. Lizzie married first Bill (William) Brown around 1883 in IL. They moved to AR, where Bill died around 1894. She then married Charles Josephus Middleton in 1899 in Ripley Co., MO. Let me know if you think they may have a connection.

I am trying to find information on my great grandmother Elizabeth,(Lizzie) Biswell. I am trying to find out about her first husband, Bill Brown (I think it was actually William). They married sometime after 1880 and before 1884. They were living in IL in 1884 when their first child, Archie, was born. They had four children, Archie, Cora Jane, Elmer James, all born in IL, either they both came to AR around 1895 or Lizzie came alone as their last child, William McKinley Brown was born in Pocahontas, Randolph Co., AR in April of 1895. I have been told by other family members that Bill Brown died before William was born. William is my grandfather. Lizzie remarried in 1899 in Ripley Co., MO, to a Charles J. Middleton from IL. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has information on Bill Brown. Thanks

I am trying to find some information on three boys who drowned in Ripley Co., in March of 1899. Two of the boys, Aaron Thomas (age 22) and Arthur Barr Biswell (age 17) were brothers and the third boy, Archie Brown, (age 15) was their nephew. Archie Brown was my great, great uncle, so all three are related to me. I am hoping maybe there is a Newspaper article about the drownings. I would appreciate any help. Thanks

The only thing I have right now is what I got from James Stevens lists. He shows her as the daughter of Norvel Biswell born 1816 and Lydia Campbell born in 1831. In the 1850 census I found Norvel, Lydia John Monroe Biswell and William Burrhus Biswell, but Porney was not born yet.

Lydia must have been carrying Forney at that time.

The list shows her born in 1850 and died in 1896

Just started researching the Biswells myself.

It can be a bit hard to define just where the surname developed.The are qutie a lot of names similar to it ie biswill,biswull,boswell,beswell,bedwell etc etc.

I was born in Hertfordshire,UK 1936,emigrated to dear old Australia in 1965.I purchased a book some years ago called "The world of Biswells".In it was names and addresses of Biswells all over the world "uk.usa.europe".I dont know how genuine it was supposed to be but it had my name and address in it.

I believe him to be the son of John Henry Biswell and Luanna Alice Cochrun if this is right they are buried Chandler, Lincoln Co, OK New Zion Cem
I have Ray married to a Marie Emma Mauch not a Caddie so this could be wrong

I am tracing the family of Goeorge Biswell son of George Biswell and Matilda Taylor. She was the daughter of Henry Taylor, and Sarah Ridgway. They came from the Waddesdon area.I know there were other siblings, but not there name for sure.

Our Biswell is in the following line: Joseph (your birth father), Walter 'Ray', James Linville, William, William. James Linville married Nancy 'Jane' Counts. Other surnames I've run across are Morgan, Tipton & Sisney. Sources of my information are obituaries, family Bible and family records from Wanda's estate. Caddie, Ray's second wife was a Johnson from Livonia MO. Ray & Caddie are buried in Livonia.

FYI for those who didn't know Wanda Biswell Smith. Wanda died Dec. 1, 2002 at age 90 years. She was the daughter of Walter 'Ray' Biswell & his first wife, Mary Elizabeth Oliver who were married in Putnam Co. MO . . . later moved to NW AR. Ray's father was James Biswell of Putnam Co. MO (not sure which one, yet). Older siblings of James were William Moultice, Harriet and Elizabeth. At least three other children were born during the Civil War, probably in IA or other parts of MO. William, Harriet & Elizabeth were born before the war.
Will post lineage, here, as soon as I figure out all the stuff in these boxes. Will be happy to share with anyone who is interested.

They lived in Siloam Springs, AR, and Kansas, OK area. My grandparents were Caddie and Ray Biswell and Clarice and Harvey Jackson Hays. I don't know much about the Biswell family at all since my parents got divorced when I was six years old and had little contact with that family.

My husband's uncle was William 'Bill' Biswell of OKC. The children you named were his cousins. Bill died two or three years ago. Still living is a half-sister, Wanda Smith of Tulsa.

Bill's grandfather was James Biswell. His father was Walter 'Ray' Biswell who was probably born in IL or MO and died in Tulsa OK, I believe. However, I think his home was in NW AR [prob. Washington, Crawford or Benton Co]. His mother was Caddy [Johnson] Biswell. She died in OKC. Sorry I have no dates.

Bill had the following siblings:
1] Vera married Robert Bodkins, both died in CA.
Children: Gary & Richard
2] Porteus Ivalee, a.k.a 'Port' married William Tuggle both died in Owasso, Tulsa Co. OK.
Children: William Jr. & Carolyn
3] Flossie Marita, a.k.a. 'Rita' m. Howard, a.k.a. 'Hap' Miller, Both died in Mission TX.
Children: Sue, Gene [dec.] Rick, John
4] Joseph m. Mary [?] Died in prob. Crawford Co. AR.
Children: Jacklyn, Daphnie, Beth
5] Wayne Oliver, half-brother, died in Tulsa OK, however home was in OKC.
Child: Walker Thomas [dec]
6] Wanda Biswell m. Woodrow W. Smith, lives in Tulsa.
Child: James Lee [dec]

Walter 'Ray' Biswell was a businessman in Levonia MO until around the time of the market crash in 1929. He moved his family to NW AR near Rogers where he became a preacher. From that time until he retired, he pastored churches in NW AR.

Ray Biswell's first wife was Mary Elizabeth Oliver. Ray and both wives are buried at Levonia MO.

Mary Douglas Phillips is the person that put this book togother. I have this book and its great. It's actully a big three ring binder with around 200 pages. It's is the infomation she herself has collect from librays and other Biswells. I have been searching my family tree off and on for the past 8 or 9 years.
