Harvey Bitler Death Account - Northumberland Co, PA - 23 May 1903
The Philadelphia Inquirer, Philadelphia, PA, May 24, 1903, Pg 4. "BODY OF FIREMAN IN A MINE BREACH // Supposed to have Plunged Through Misstep While on His Way to Work at Locust Gap Mine // Special to The Inquirer. // MT. CARMEL, Pa., May 23 -- After spending the entire day hunting for Harvey Bitler, his body was found late tonight in a mine breach near Locust Gap, with his neck broken. // Bitler was employed as a fireman at the Locust Gap Colliery and left his home at Helfenstein last night to go to work. When he did not return this morning his family became alarmed and a search was instituted. It is supposed that a misstep in the dark caused him to plunge down the cave-in.".
Does anyone know where Harvey was buried, or who his family was? I believe he may be son of Franklin Bitler and Sarah Eisenhauer, but no evidence to back it up.
