Maria Margaretha Bitz married to Johan Peter Wolff

Looking for ancestors of Maria. I believe her parents were Gerog (George?) W Bitz born 1765 married to Catharina. I don't have a death date for Maria but I believe Johan Wolff died in 1840 in Germany. Sorry for the sketchy information. Kim

More info: His father was Daniel Bitz and his mother was Fredericka Walz. They were both born in Odessa. John Bitz, I believe, was also born in Russia.

Louise Mary Yax Wehner married Joseph C. Bitz May 15, 1916 in Monroe, MI. This was her third marriage, his second. She was born in MI 1866. Family Search film #2342716, digital GS # 4209304 Image 479, reference v 4 p 90 rn 372. May also be found on Family Search internet site. Hope this is the same Louise Yax.

Hi, I'm looking for info on John Bitz (may be John Henry Bitz or even Johann Heinrich?). He lived near Eureka, S.D. and had a wife named Katerine. They were listed on the 1930 census with all of their 11 children (my grandma the youngest). I don't know if he had siblings or where he was born or anything at all about his family. Does anyone know?

I have a Louise Bitz from Monroe, born 1881 died 1940, daughter of Jacob and Katherine Hoffman. My info says she married Merrill Lamb.

The Department of Defense announced today the identities of seven Marines killed in action March 23 in the vicinity of An Nasiriyah, Iraq. Killed were:

Here is my great grandfather's obit. It has some of the info you're looking for I think.

George Bitz Jr
1918 - 2004

George L. Bitz Jr., 86 of Tekonsha died April 17, 2004 at his residence. He was born on January 1, 1918 in Coldwater to George and Julia (Briggs) Bitz. On June 22, 1941 he was married to Georgia B. Wilson in Coldwater, MI. She died on August 27, 1990. He was a resident of the Calhoun County area since the 1940's. He formerly was a Meat Cutter for various Groceries. Also along with his wife, he owned and operated Thurstons Furniture Store in Quincy and Bitz and Pieces Antique Shop in Allen. His hobbies included antiquing and fishing. Surviving are two sons; Richard (Candy) Bitz of Tekonsha, Leo (Pat) Bitz of The Villages, FL; one daughter, Sandra (Jerry) Thurston of Homer; five grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; one sister, Judy (Boyd) Blashfield of Coldwater. He was preceded in death by his wife, and seven brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 20, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the Homer Chapel of Tidd-Williams Funeral Chapels with Rev. Angel Rojas officiating. Burial will be at West Clarendon Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be Monday, April 19, 2004 from 5-8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday, April 20, 2004 from Noon until service time at the Homer Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Oaklawn-Jackson.

My great grandfather George Bitz married Georgia Wilson. The most I know at this moment (I will have to get more information from my grandma) is that they lived of their lives in Tekonsha. He has 3 children (one girl, two boys).

I'm descended through his daughter Mary (Bitts) married to John Varner. By the way, thank you much for pointing out the Holmes in William's Will. It's amazing what we have in our possession for years and don't realize it!!

Was this John Henry Bitts, born 30 June 1830 to Isaac Bitts?
My husband is a descendent of William Bitts/Bitz also and there has been a great deal of research on this family although I have no other information on John (didn't know his middle name was Henry, even).

Thanks for responding, Robert. Yes, I have the descendants of Joseph Bitz and Helena Kelsch. After looking at the birth records at the Emmons County courthouse I see that the oldest of their children were born in Linton. Joseph would be the brother of Valentine whose descendants we are trying to make connections with.

Elena, I might have something for you. In what we have in our family tree there is a Wendelin Bitz married to Phillipina Engelhard who had the following children:
Georg Bitz b. 1861 no known spouse or descendants
Catharina Bitz b. 1863 no known spouse or descendants
Anton Bitz b. 1871 married to Margaret Sinner with 10 children. Could this Catharina be the person you are looking for? I can give you her ancestors. They are:
Grandparents: Bernhard Bitz b. 1804 possibly the first generation born in Odessa, Russia & Catharina b. 1812
Great Grandparents: Johannes Bitz b. 1769 born in Roppenheim, Alsace, France. He immigrated to Odessa, Russia. His wife's name is unknown. That is how far back we have been able to trace the Bitz family.

Was your Catharina born in Russia? If so, when did she come to the U.S. and where did she settle? Was she married before coming to the U.S.? How did she get to Texas?

My great grandparents came to the U.S. in 1898 and settled in North Dakota. My grandparents came to the U.S. in 1902 after my grandfather got out of the Russian army. They too settled in North Dakota. I live in Fargo, ND and am 64 years old. I'd be interested in hearing more about you if you see that what I gave you might be the connection you are looking for. It would be so exciting to fill in the missing names of people in that part of the family tree. I can give you the descendants of Bernhard which includes the following other children besides Wendelin: Margaretha, Nicholas and Balthasar.

There are some people in TX who are involved in the family tree that is being put together. She moved from Canada to TX, but I don't know at the moment where in TX. If you want I can e-mail her your e-mail address

I can help you out a little. Phillapina Bosch was the daughter of Ignatius Bosch and Phillipena Lenhardt. His father was either Ignaitus Bosch or Stephan Bosch. They moved from Sulzbach/Mannheim Ba probably between1804 and 1806 to the town of Rosental, Crimea. The were listed in a census in 1816. You can obtain this information from a book by Karl Stumpp The Emigration from Germany to Russia in the years 1763-1862. One of my great grandfathers daughters married a Joseph Bitz who I met years ago. She is burried in Napoleon so I believe your other responder is the best source on the Bitz family. Helena married Josph Bitz in 1904 and by that time most of the Kelschs lived in Linton N. Dak..
