0I saw your post on ancestry.com on the Bitzer family. I see it was dated a few years ago and hopefully you have your answer by now. I can't help you with your question but hope you can help me with my question. I just recently started research on my family tree. You said you had some research on the Bitzer family in Ohio. My great grandfather Nicholas Aaron Bovee (17 Jan 1840-20 Mar 1916) was married to Anna Maria Bitzer (July 1847-April 1905). She was born in Ohio-some sources say Ross, Ohio. They were married 24 Aug 1865. 1870 census show they lived in Funks Grove, Ill. They moved to the Blair, Washington Co, Nebraska area in the 1880's and both died there and are burried in the Blair Nebraska Cemetary. I have not been able to find Anna's mother or father-hoping you can help! Thanks, Gordon Gilliam Ashland, Nebraska

Bitzer & Holzwarth families of Lake County Indiana

I'm a 2-great-granddaughter of Christiania/Christina Bitzer. Her maiden name was Holzwarth, dtr of Rosina and Mathaeus Holzwarth of Lake County IN. Her first marriage was to a
NN Schmidt-Smith, and in 1864 she married 2)Conrad Bitzer of Ross, Lake Co. IN. Does anyone know if any Bitzer or Holzwarth descendants still live in Lake Co., IN? Christiania's parental Holzwarth family and her Bitzer family were both large families. She had 3 children by her first marriage to NN Smith, and 6 more children with Conrad Bitzer. I'd also like to learn the burial place of Christiania Bitzer. I know her mother Rosina was buried at a private Bitzer cemetery plot on an area farm, and that her father Mathaeus Holzwarth is buried in Goodhue Co., MN where he had gone to live with another dtr. Any info will be greatly appreciated! You may contact me at: Lcfamtree@att.net

Thank you!
Lois in Arkansas
I know this is a long time after you posted your query, but I do know a little about Raymond Bitzer. My grandfather's name was also Raymond Bitzer, and he met your Raymond while they were both fishing on the beach in Ocean City NJ. After chatting for quite a while, as they packed up to go, Raymond decided to introduce himself to my grandfather. "I'm Ray Bitzer," he said, to which my incredulous grandfather relied, "I'm Ray Bitzer, too!"

Daniel first appears on St Clair county census in 1850 as a single man, not living with family. He married Priscilla BRADSBY (b: 1836) of St Clair county 12/24/1858 in St Clair County IL. They had three children that can be traced through the census records Pauline Bell (also recorded as Isabelle and Belle) b:7/2/1859, Clara Elizabeth b: 4/19/1861 and Hattie Mae. Priscilla apparently died and Daniel remarried Sarah E COLLINS 12/5/1866 in St Louis, MO. They had 2 more children Walter & Charles A.

Belle never married, but raised the children of Clara Elizabeth BITZER BROWN who died in 1896.

Daniel Bitzer's burial notice was posted in the Lebanon Advertiser 12/6/1912.

Re: Bitzer-Coat of Arms

Our family names--an excerpt from Tailfin~en Heimalbuch by Hermann Bizer 1953
Translated by Troy R. Taylor in May 1982 p. 386

At the end of the 12th century, more and more Southern Germans began to use
a second name in order to be able to distinguish themselves from others of the
same name. These second names were at first often nicknames or titles. The
practice of taking a second name was still not permanent, one could adopt a
second name or abandon one at will. Eventually, these second names became hereditary and therefore became consistent within bloodlines.
The development of second names is believed (by us) to be very similar to the development of our present family names.
(The article goes on to give a detailed explanation of seven family names
common to the Tailfingen area.)

The next name gives us insight into the origin of those with "the" name. The
records of the Monastery of St. Gallen mention a Buzzer living "in Endingen". It
could be that the Tailfingen Bitzers are descended from the Endingen Buzzers, or
that people from Bitz took the name of the town as their second name when they
moved elsewhere. In either case the name means" a man from Bitz". Bitzer was
used as the name of various fields in Durrwangen, and earlier in Tailfingen (or
meadows): It was mentioned once in 1445 "in Howtal gant vor dem Butzer usshin"
and it appears three times in 1565" ob dem Bvtzer, zwischen Hanns Bitzer Acker und dem gemainmarckh gelegen", ain Gartlin enet dem bach, stosser uff dess butzers bomgarten" and Hanfgarten, stoset an des butzers garten"
In song writing, the name Bitzer is also noticed. In earlier centuries, most
people wrote Bitzer or Butzer. In the family register and in other church
registers (especially from the 19th century) the name was almost always entered
without the "t". So we understand why Jakob Bitzer (1854-1945) of Freudenstadt
wrote: "I have experienced and co-created the variation on our name. In my
youth, the name was only Bizer. Presently, seventy year old parson. Kieser
explains that the "tz" spelling is the true and original spelling. When we became of age, my brother(Johannes) and I added the "tz", whereas my three older brothers kept the original spelling, like my father--naturally." 0niy a few individuals remain with the "z", I myself have surrendered it, most families use the "tz", but there is the persistent few with the "z".

Hi. I am Tim Bitzer and I am a descendent of Silas and Hannah Bitzer's first son, William. While most of the Bitzers moved from Ohio to Missouri after the Civil War, William stayed. I have found Silas' Father (John) and Mother (Mary) graves in central Ohio and have pictures and a will. My problem has been finding John's birthplace and parents.

William had two sons, Frank and Charles. Frank moved to Indiana in 1924. He and his wife had two sons and a daughter, Orville, Harry and Golda. Orville and his wife (Alma)had five sons, Eugene, William, Robert, Morris, and Wendell. I am the son of Robert.

I have one picture of Silas and Hannah. I went to Virginia and found info on Silas in Loudon County. I am not sure if it accurate though.

Please contact me if you have pictures you want to exchange or know other pieces of the puzzle.
Best regards,
Tim Bitzer
dabitzers@yahoo.com

She was a young woman 24 or 25 years old and respected by all who knew her.
I wish you were a bit more specific - i.e. names and dates of those who emigrated. It would be of great help to me - that way I may be able to assist you. Those who came to Franklin Co, MA, came most often to work in the cutlery industry; my study contains over 470 persons from the specific area of Waldstetten/Weilheim (Balingen) including not less than 15 Bitzer; there were at least another 6 in Franklin Co where I have not been able to document birth.
