Thanks for your reply. Wish I could help you with your Bivens family but all I have is what I posted. I got into this line because I was researching the Rogers family of Culpeper Co Va & Burgess's son Thomas L. marr marr Polly Bivens dau of Randall. Good luck with your search.
Ollie

I would be very interested in the records for this family. I just recently found that my Willey, Wylie, Bivens of Humphreys County, TN, is probably the son of Leonard Bivens, brother of Fielder Bivens. I would appreciate anything you might share.

Joyce McFarland CMCFARL641@AOL.COM

My gggg-grandfather, Fielder Bivens, was a brother of Randall's. I have their father as Liebert Bivens, mother Elizabeth, but haven't gotten any further back than that. Randall was born 1763-1768 and died 26 Aug 1839 in Clark Co. KY. He is listed in the 1790 & 1800 census, Rowan Co. NC. Also 7 Aug 1790 in Rowan Co. NC he "being of lawful age, chooses Lewis Beard as his guardian". He married 1)Rachel Wood, 1790 in Rowan Co. NC, 2)Margaret Routt 14 May 1816 in Clark Co. KY.

Siblings of Randall Bivens:
Leonard, b. 1764-1766, d. aft 1850 TN
Corbin Lewis, b. abt 1766, d. 1811 TN
Fielder, b. abt 1770. d. 1844 Rutherford Co. TN
Mary, b. abt 1765
Joseph, b. abt 1774
Lukey, b. abt 1776
William, b. abt 1778
Elizabeth (Lishy)

I have more court documents on this family, but don't seem to have gotten them on the computer yet. I'll look if you're interested.
Alexander, Sally and Willie lived side by side and I believe that Willie is my husband's line.

I have been searching for Lillian's line for a long time. Unless i travel im not sure if i can find anything. She supposably was dropped on the doorstep when she was about four by her step father. Then when she was about 13 her sister Pearl sold her to James Cates and they were married. Her mothers name was Mary Josephine and her father was hiram Bivens...Not sure if this was there real names since she was so young when they died. She was born in Texas or Oklahoma. If anyone has any information please email me at lovetamitchell@yahoo.com..I would so appreciate any information.

Nancy,
I live in Warren,OH. I saw Uncle Rollins at the Bivens reunion in Avon in the 1980's. My father, brother and I were there. I have a lot of pictures. Some good ones with Grampa Bivens(John Wesley) and the family. I even have a 4 generation pic with him, my grandmother, my dad and myself. I imagine living there in the area around the family, that you have a lot also. I have a rocker that Grampa Bivens gave to my mother for me. He told my mother that it belonged to his mother, Elizabeth, when they came to Illinois in 1859 when he was 4yrs.

Email me at vennitti@nlc.net

Mary Jane

Re: Looking for Bivens Proof

Hi,

If you're looking for something somewhat specific, I'd be happy to try and address that in this forum.

For general Bivens family history/descendancy, I'd have to recommend a book from the Vonore historical society (Vonore Families, volume 1). It's a $20 investment, but has quite a large descendacy tree in it for the Bivens family, including the people you've identified in your original post, and many more. It's done from family interviews/contributions and other historical society members, so you'll receive "data" but not source records. Their website will detail all families included in the book. Given I had alot of family from Monroe county, TN, I found them very well worth it.

Hope that helps a bit.

Erick

For tombstone pictures, you should try Monroe County, TN on tgnweb, as there are numbers cemetaries with pictures, and is where I've gotten all of mine to date.

He had several brothers and sisters and I only have three names -- Alf Bivens(died in 1927 in Memphis; wife was Odella), Wash Bivens (he lived in Bobo Mississippi; wife named Susie; they had about 9 children), and a sister name Nina Bivens Phillips(she lived in Arkansas. Their parents were Ned and Millie Bivens. Dudley was married to Eunice Pride; they had 3 children -- Edward (my grandfather), Beatrice, and Mary. Hopefully, I have been of some assistance. Prayerfully, you can be of some assistance to me as well.

Hi Jesse. It's been awhile since you posted. John and Jemima [Crockett] Bivens were my 4g-grandparents. I have her born in Marshall, Tenn in 1765. One source says her father may have been Bartholomew Crocket, who was christened on 13 Sep 1723 in Houghton le Spring, Durham, England, and she may have had brothers Robert and David. None of the research I've done yet has found any connection to Davy Crockett. I don't doubt they're related, but it must be far back in their family trees.

Have you found documentary evidence that William Bivens of MD and Ann Brashears were the parents of Nathaniel Bivens Sr.? I've seen the names before, but haven't been able to establish a verifiable connection. If you have, do you also know if Nathaniel had siblings? Thanks!

Samantha, it is great to see someone else enjoying the SEARCH! By the way, the girl, Angie Bivens who went to school at Leoma Elementary, a couple years ahead of me, was from the same area as Cedar Hill so I am quite certain there is a connection. I have no idea what ever happened with Angie, but I know others in the area can help. I am going there shortly and will inquire about here and William Rufus. I am sorry, I was sidetracked for awhile and I have yet to ask my father about him. I am pretty sure if he didn't know him or hear of him, he will know those who did.
Good luck. Talk to you soon.
John

I do not know for sure. But if it helps fuel your passion, many families who settled in Lawrence County Tennessee, moved from Georgia, to Alabama near the GA/AL line then eventually moved on to Limestone, Lawrence, Lauderdale and Morgan counties. DO NOT discount anything you find that might give you a clue. I have found many of my family and many not of my family for that matter, who followed the same basic trail. It is a very interesting journey, so enjoy!!! If there are any specifics you would like help with let me know.

Sincerely,

John Birdyshaw
I have found census up until 1920 and then beforfe then she has disappeared. She had told my aunt that her mother and father had died when she was young and tha ther stepfather left all of all of the kids on a doorstep. She claims to have sisters named Ora, Pearl, Nellie, and Victoria half brothers by tghe name of Leroy and or Roy. We were told she was sold to James cates as his wife by her sister Pearl. if you have any information that would be helpful i would so appreciate it.
There is a William Bivens (1836-1918) who married Mary Ann Snyder (1841-1919). This William is found on the following census records:

1840 U.S. federal census: Pennsylvania, Franklin County, Montgomery Twp, Enumeration Date 1830, microfilm pg. 229, line 29. Enumerated as free white male under age 5 living with father Joseph.

1870 U.S. federal census: Nebraska, Seward County, Beaver Creek Pct, Enumeration Date 9 Jul 1870, pg.13, microfilm pg. 405A, lines 22-27. Enumerated as head of house living with wife Mary A. age 29 and 4 children; Roanoke age 7, Charlie age 4, Franklin age 2 and Lewis age 6 months.

1880 U.S. federal census: Nebraska, Seward County, K Precinct, S.D. 1, E.D. 142, sht. 1A, microfilm pg. 471A, lines 41-50 and line 1 on the following page. Enumerated as head of house living with wife Mary age 39 and 9 children; Roanoka age 17, Charles age 13, Franklin age 12, Lewis age 10, Fanny age 8, Josephine age 6, Edward age 4, Frederick age 2 and Harrison age 11 months.

1900 U.S. federal census: Nebraska, Fillmore County, Fairmont Twp, Enumeration Date 14 Jun 1900, S.D. 4, E.D. 22, sht. 5B, microfilm pg. 85B, lines 99-100 and 1-4 on following page. Enumerated as head of house living with wife Mary A. age 63, 3 children; Edward age 23, Harry age 20, Chester age 18 and granddaughter Mary J. Bivens age 10. His sons Frank and Roanoak are enumerated on sheet 6A at lines 5-18.

1910 U.S. federal census: Nebraska, Fillmore County, Exeter Twp, Exeter Village, Enumeration Date 20-21 Apr 1910, S.D. 4, E.D. 23, sht. 5B, microfilm pg. 45B, lines 60-63. Enumerated as head of house living with wife Mary A. age 68 and 2 children; Roanoke age 49 and Edward age 37.

My research shows 10 children to this William's marriage to Mary Ann:
1. Roanoke I., b. 1861
2. Charles A., b. 1866
3. Franklin Lewis, b. 1869
4. William Lewis, b. 1869
5. Fannie Belle, b. 1872
6. Josephine, b. 1874
7. Edward, b. 1876
8. Fredrick, b. 1877
9. Harrison Linn, b. 1880
10. Chester A., b. 1881

This William did not have a son Joseph to my knowledge.

I do have a Joseph Wilson Bivens, b. 1849 in Fulton County, Illinois. I have his parents as John Bivens (1808-1865) and Mary Jane Leafti.

Any connection to your Joseph?

Is this family at all related to Bivens' from Alabama. Mainly decendants from Morgan and Limestone Counties? My ancestors did not keep records and I am beginning some research, mainly for my 4 children. Both parents are deceased and my grandmother's memory is off and on. Please contact me with any information.

This is some good "fuel", my Dad's family did not keep very good records so this is a wonderful start!! Another good thing I know is that my grandfather and his dad were fisherman. My uncle is still in this business and he is the last of them. Thanks John!
