Re: benjamin Bivens

I am also trying to find out the names of Benjamin Bivens's (b. 1777) (d. approx. 1860) parents. I believe Benjamin is my great x 5 grandfather. From my research, I've discovered that I am a descendent of Benjamin's son Joseph (b. 1797), and of Joseph's son Dr. Wright Bivens (b. 1852). Dr. Wright married Nancy Delilah Ray (b. 1850) and they had a daughter named Nancy Elizabeth (b. 1873). Nancy married JP Underwood in Nov. 1895 in Fannin County, Georgia. Nancy died in September 1896 after giving birth to twins--Stella and Doctor Prince Underwood. They named my great-grandfather Doctor Prince (DP) after the doctor who delivered him. DP (my great-grandfather) was a WWI veteran who trained horses during the war. After the war, the VA Hospital staff were always overly respectful to him because they thought he was a retired MD! He married Radi Elaine Woody in 1919 in Fannin County. They had several children including my grandmother Stella Elaine Underwood, who was named after DP's twin sister. My grandmother married William Waters, a WWII Army veteran, in Fannin County in 1946, and they had 7 children, of which my mother is the 6th child.

My middle name is Elaine after my grandmother and great-grandmother. My grandmother Stella Elaine is still alive. She has always talked about her Bivens grandparents's role in raising her father (DP) and her Aunt Stella. I'm not sure why, but JP was not very involved, if at all, in raising them. Grandma Bivens (Nancy Ray Bivens), as my Grandma calls her, was very instrumental in my grandmother's life, as she took on the role of grandmother (since her daughter Nancy died in childbirth) to my own grandma and her siblings and shared stories about her own young adult life during the Civil War, particulary about hiding her 13 year old brother in a hay bale to keep the soldiers from taking him!

I did find a man named Libert/Liebert Bivens (b. approx. 1738 in North Carolina; died approx. 1785); however, although his age is appropriate as the father of Benjamin, I cannot find anything to prove that he was his father. His wife's name was Elizabeth (b. approx. 1742). They married in 1763. I can only find records for one child--Randal (b. 1770 in N. Carolina).

Maybe, some of this information will unlock a key to solving the mystery. Good luck, and keep me updated.

My great, great grandmother was Elizabeth Bivins. She married Samuel Johnson in 1829, in AL. Samuel owned land in Monroe Co, AL. The couple migrated to MS about 1844. According to her obituary, Elizabeth was born 1 April 1815, in Jones County, GA. Her parents moved to AL, when Elizabeth was young. I do not know who her parents were. Also, does anyone have information on Solomon Bivin, age 60 to 69 in 1840? On this census, Solomon is shown living near Samuel and Elizabeth in Monroe County. Is he Elizabeth's father? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My 4th-great-grandfather, John Bivens, was the brother of Stephen S. Bivens. Our common ancestor is Stephen and John's father, Nathaniel Bivens (Sr.) of NC, who is my 5th great-grandfather and your 4th. If I'm figuring right, that makes us 5th cousins once removed. It's nice to meet you. Thanks for the note & I'll keep your email just in case.

Cheers, Gene Bivins.

Gene, thank you for your response and for your help with one of my genealogy problems.

Uriah is my GG Grandfather. I had speculated that he was the son of Stephen S. Bivens & Susan Shelby, but had not been able to verify. Notice that you also have multiple possibilities for the State of Uriah's birth: 1850 census says NC; 1860 & 1870 say AL; 1880 says TN.

I have his birthdate as 12/1/1888, as is on his marker; but I recently found an extraction:
"Savannah Courier 12/15/1887: Rockdale: Uriah Bevins died on the 1st after an illness of four days at the age of 76 yrs "
Since this is an extraction, it could very well be a typo. I will stay with date on marker unless I see an original newspaper.

I descend from Uriah throuh his son John V. William Bivens. His daughter, Ella Josephine is my grandmother. I have information on Uriah's descendants, but of course I have not done any research on his siblings or ancestors. From which of his siblings do you descend?

Uriah's wife was Susan Jane Loggins, b. 12/15/1818 in Tn and d. 12/12/1899 in Hardin Co., TN. I have no info about her family at all. I wonder if she could be the daughter of Martha Loggins and have siblings Jeannette and James L.

Will be happy to share any info I have on Uriah & Jane's descendants. Since you are a cousin, please feel free to use my personal e-mail: RamonaHarris@comcast.net.

Sorry, I do not have any documents on the Bivens family. Most of the info I have has not been verified as I got it off on the Bivens board. Maybe someone else on the board can help you. I was working on the Rogers line from Culpeper County Virginia which connected to the Bivens line through Thomas L. Rogers who marr Mary Bivens. Good luck with your search.
Ollie

Thanks Gene. I do think we are related though. Your line goes through Nathaniel and his father is thought to be William. I do believe it is possible (although speculative) that my line also goes through William. Both the Hogans and Bivens clustered in North Carolina before migrating. John Wesley Bivens in Marion is a geographic and name match for my family using "John" and "John Wesley"; and of course all the Speer spouses.

I found Valentine Bivens marrying Elizabeth Speer in 1803 settling in Cumberland County, KY (2 farms from Daniel Hogan) before migrating to Alabama. Wheeler Bivins married Mary Hogan, whose brother William married Mary Speer (sister to Elizabeth). John Wesley b. 1793 (a name my family used) married Patience Speer in 1815 Cumberland (a cousin to Mary and Elizabeth). John and William settled in Madison County Ark. (living in the same township) and Wheeler in nearby Izard/Marion County, Ark. My family has never used the name "Nathaniel" and I noted that his son John appears on the 1790 and 1800 Anson NC census and died in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina 11 March 1818, according to Gary Keith Bivens who has extensively researched Nathaniel.

Hi Melvin.
Yes, my 4-great grandfather, John Bivens of Mecklenburg County was the son of Nathaniel Bivens Sr. and Margaret "Peggy" Tyler. Her parents are unknown as it is believed she stowed away on a ship from England. Nathaniel is CONJECTURED to have been the son of William Bivens (Beaven), b. 1691 in Maryland, and Ann Brashear (Brashears), b. 1692 also in Maryland.

John Bivens, b. 1760, was the eldest of Nathaniel's sons, who included Elijah b. 1771, William b. 1773, Stephen S. b. 1774, Abel b. 1775, Moses b. 1786, and Nathaniel Jr. b. 1787. They also had 3 sisters, Sarah B., Unity and Lydia. John married Jemima Crockett, b. 1763 in Virginia, 1st cousin of Davy Crockett. John and Jemima had ten children, three of whom married Cochrans.

I believe the Mecklenburg "John Bivens" may be the son of Nathaniel Bivens from Anson NC.

I have been able to confirm that VALENTINE BIVENS' mother was NANCY JANE WHEELER, the daughter of Samuel Harrison Wheeler. Both John Bivens and Samuel Harrison Wheeler lived in Hillsborough Township, Person County, North Carolina and appear in the 1800 US Federal Census there.
The Bivens brothers (Wheeler, Valentine, John Wesley, and William) migrated to Kentucky in the early 1800'a and ended up in Cumberland County, Kentucky which adjoins Clay, County Tennessee. They intermarried with Speer's and Hogan's. Valentine migrated to Alabama with William Speer. I think some Hogans might have gone too. John Wesley Bivens and William Bivens went to Madison Coujnty, Alabama. Wheeler Bivins migrated to Johnson County, Illinois (just across the Kentucky border) where his children were born. He then migrated to Izard County, Arkansas (near Madison and his brothers) and he was murdered there in 1826 by a serial killer named Abb Garrison.

My 4-Great Grandfather, John Bivens, was born in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina on 11 May, 1760. I thought he might be the John Bivens you mention, but he had no son named Valentine, nor do any of the other names coincide. It seems like a strong coincidence, but we are apparently not cousins.

Do you know when Uncle Roy passed away?

Thanks

Bivens or Bivvens or Bivins in Texas around McClennan County Texas

Help me solve a mystery. I am looking for information on Ollie Bell Bivvens or Bivens. Her family seems to have disappeared. Her DOB is 15 Sep 1880 and she died in Ranger on 19 Jan 1959. She married Uriah "Buck" Francis Casey Junior. There is a great deal of mystery surrounding Ollie's parents. She supposedly had a brother, Otto and another sister whose name I do not know. Otto Bivens was adopted by the Shelly family and I have some information on him. I was told that Ollie was to be adopted by the Casey family (Uriah Frances Casey and Sara Ann Bagget), but ended up marrying their son Uriah Junior. I was told Otto frequently visited Ollie in Ranger and he is described as having red hair and to have spoken Welsh, as did Ollie. Now, the mystery, I was told that the three Bivens children's mother died coming over to America from Ireland and when their father could not care for them they were adopted by local families. I am not sure about this story. I was told that they were of Native American decent and were adopted when their parents were killed in a raid. I don't really believe this story. And, then we have the issue of the family living in McClennan County and the father, possible Lafayette Bivens, molesting one of the daughters. He was sent to prison (I have proof of that) and then their mother dies within a month of his imprisonment. They Casey's were living in McClennan county at the same time, but the names and ages do not match. I could assume that they changed their names upon adoption or to remove themselves away from the shame. If you have any information let me know. On ancestry I have listed in my tree that Lafayette Bivens is Ollie's father, but I am not sure about this.

Eureka!!! Thank you for answering my post. I wish however that you could tell me a few things, like the names of John William Bivens brothers and sisters that were in his Bible that burned up in the fire in Redwater. My genealogy info ends at Bonham, Fannin Co. Tx. where John died. Before that nothing, except for the fact of his marrying Lorena Moore in 1850. I have the Original marriage certificate from the courthouse that they failed to pick up.

Hello, my Mothers maiden name is Bivens. Her full name is Shirley Anne Bivens. She is from Oklahoma. I am trying to find her family on here but also having a difficult time of it. It says that there are No matches, and gives lots of others, however, I have found her on here in the past. I think they purposely keep some records hidden to extort more money from members. Good luck, and I hope you find them. I am also looking for Maurice Bivens, about 54-56 years of age who joined the Army around 1975-76. Any relation? Thanks, Judy Busby

Yes, Sarah Hannah was another daughter of Randall Bivens, by his second wife, Margaret Routt. She is referenced as "Hannah" in most on-line sources after she married James Corbin. She and her husband moved to Greene Co., Indiana, where both died. I have some additional info on the Bivens family if you wish to have it.

I don't have enough info to make a connection. I do have Burgess Rogers & Sophia Miller in my data base. Their son Thomas L. b 2 May 1800 in Clark Co KY marr Mary ( Polly ) Bivens who was the dau of Randall Bivens & Rachel Woods. Could Sarah Hannah be another dau of Randalls? I don't have any Fones info in my data base. Wish I could help.
Ollie
