Dawn - I've never heard of a Bixby company making ink or ink wells. It would be a logical sort of sideline for a company specializing in shoe blacking, wouldn't it?
There were a few quite wealthy Bixby entrepreneurs noted in the National Cyclopedia of American Biography, but I don't recall one linked to ink...except Tams Bixby, the newspaper publisher. ;-)
