Christian's wife was never married to Jacob. But, for a while, Christian appears to have been giving the census takers his name as Jacob (on several, you can see two Jacob's listed. I have no idea why he'd do this except maybe there is a grain of truth to the old Bixel story about why Christian left Switzerland in the first place.

My dad & I went to central Pa. two years ago to see Bixel's that still live there, and we visited Christian's old farm. All of it is still there, preserved as a land conservancy...all buildings are long gone, though.

mjbixel@sbcglobal.net
Mike

My father had lunch with your dad last month. He was back there visiting family. I hear your dad grew a full white bread and plays Santa Claus. Gotta love that. Feel free to contact me at bixel@cox.net. My research has Christena Mary Bixel (Christian's wife) was also married to a Jacob Bixel (born 1835 in Switzerland) .. divorce or death, I don't know.

data from 1900 census, different then 1880 census data

Christian immigrated from Hasle, Bern, Switzerland in 1864 to Clinton county Pennsylvania. Name was Bichsel prior to leaving Switzerland. Brother Jacob immigrated to Clinton county Pa. a few years later. Father may have been John, Johannes, Johann, Hans Bichsel in Hasle bei Burgdorf. Mother Anna Lehmann

Well, we are clearly related. Russell's younger brother was Wayne, my grandfather. My dad is Lanny, I'm Mike. I live in Willoughby.

Happy to share all I have on the Bixel's, although I've had trouble getting much traction in Switzerland so far. By any chance, has your father been in recent contact with my dad? Sounds familiar...

Maybe we can take this conversationoff line.

I also am looking for information on Christian. He is my great-great grandfather. My father, Robert, was born in Willoughby, OH. His father is Russel, and Russel's father is Jacob (son of Christian and Christena Mary). If you have any information I'd appreciate you sharing it. I am willing to provide you with my families line if you are interested.

Two came all the way out to eastern Nevada. One was an Anton with a nephew {draw a blank on his name}.
Cousin Gilda Miller Alberts granddaughter told me Anton and his wife died in LA on Bixel Street. The streets still there but in two parts, said a movie studio bought the house.

Thanks for the offering. Happy Thanksgiving. Ed

In response to your message #11, sent March 3rd,2001, most if not all Bixel's (Bichsel) family is traced back to Switerland, this is what I have always been told, now that I am older and curious of mine and my childrens heritage, the older people in the family who could have shared this information are gone. Please send an email of what you know. My great-grand father was also a Jacob Bixel and from what I know, I think his father came from Switerland, after a bar room brawl, thinking he killed someone fled to America, most Bixels that I am aware of live in the PA and OH areas, some out in CA. It seems that you have already had some of the same interests that I have. My fathers brother was also a Kenneth Bixel, killed in Vietnam, you may have seen his name on The Wall....I look forward to hearing from you.

My Bixel's are also from Wurtemberg. My great great great grandfather Maximus arrived with his wife Sophia in Oxford Country (Ontario), in 1847. He had three sons Matthew, Leonard and Antoine. Matthew begat Cyrus (d. 1895), Oscar and Arthur, Cyrus married Emily and begat my Grandfather Arthur Winlow Bixel. I would love to find any long lost relations.

Looking for Büchsel/Bixel

I'm looking for my ancestor Joseph Büchsel
who came from Dannemarie, Alsace, France to
Gräfenhausen, Hesse, Germany near the end
of the 18th century. Possibly his name was
written Bixel in the Alsace. Are there
any connections to your Bixel ancestors
possible?
