Mathew's parents were John Blackall and his wife Bridget. In 1860, the family is found living in Erie, Monroe, Michigan. I've spoken with another descendant who believes this family came from Co. Clare. I am researching the surname Blackall from Co. Clare, and would be glad to share information with you.

Mathew had several siblings that I've found, Michael, Sarah Elizabeth, Patrick and Joseph. To date, I've been unable to trace them further.

Cindy Wood
cwood91262@aol.com

Re: MARY BLACKALL in NY

I can give you a bit more info about this couple. Records indicate that Mary Blackall O'Dea was probably from Tarmon, Kilfearagh, Co. Clare. Using a variety of sources, I found 6 children for them: John (about 1832), Thomas (about 1834), Charles (christened in March 1837 in Tarmon), Jane (christened in April 1839), Anne (circa 1842) and Willie (circa 1854). Willie appears to have been born in the US.

The family is found in Maine in 1850 with children John, Thomas, Charles and Ann. It would appear likely that Jane did not survive. In 1860, they are found in Ellicottville, Cattaraugus, New York. A number of Blackall families are also in Ellicottville, and it is speculated that they somehow are related to Mary, given the unusual nature of the Blackall name. In 1870, the family is found in Lockport, Niagara, New York. This also happens to be where a number of those Blackall families first lived when they came to the US in the early 1850s.

I've chased Thomas' line a bit further forward, as well as Charles' line. I would like to speak with you about the family, if you still are willing to share information.

Cindy Wood
cwood91262@aol.com

Re: Blackall's

John,
Hi, my name is Michael Blackall, living in Australia. I've started to try & find relatives of my father Thomas James Blackall born in Liverpool on I believe 21Nov1922.
I do know he lived in Upper Beau St in Everton,
Liverpool before he left or was sent to Australia around 1936-1939 after the death of his father. Dad said he had a sister who was possibly sent to Canada but don't know if there were any other siblings. Dad said his father worked as a blacksmith on the docks. He believed his mother's maiden name was Mary Lyons. He always
said his mother & father lived with his paternal grandfather, who he said was an
'orange man' from Ireland. Apparently Dad's mother was catholic & didn't
get along with her in-laws which probably made it very difficult when Dad's father died.

Dad died just over 2 years ago but even when he was alive he never talked much about his
early life. He did mention a few things at various times (such as the choclate factory on the corner of the street) but wouldn't elaborate too
much. So we're not left with much to go on!

Don't know if this relates to your research but here's hoping.

Regards,
Michael Blackall

I've traced some of my ancestors named Blackall to Aston Tirrold in Oxfordshire; a small yet picturesque village not far from Didcot. Another Blackall ancestor became Bishop of Exeter and I have a family copy of his works from the early 18th century. The Aston Tirrold Blackall family were drovers and there are Blackall tomb stones in the village church yard. A son born in the 19thC named Thomas Blackall became the regular driver of the Great Western Railways Pacific Class Railway engine 'The Great Bear'. Indeed, my Father has the initials G.W. Another Blackall worked for I. K. Brunel.

Edward and Sarah BLACKALL of Oxfordshire Henley and Buckinghamshire High Wycombe

I am try to find out anything I can about Edward and Sarah BLACKALL whose son James had a daughter Caroline born 1844 at Henley on Thames as she is my GGrandmother. I for many years have researched a Caroline BLACKWELL born in 1844 in Stokenchurch (father Henry (possibly middle name James) BLACKWELL mother Mary Ann TOWERSEY) as my GGrandmother until a fellow researcher unrelated to this line posted a message after I sent her my family file. She had James and Jane BLACKALL as her parents. This started me checking my Data and I find that she was correct. I ordered a Marrige Certificate of a Caroline BLACKWELL who I had assumed was a neice and cousin to the family of BLACKWELL's that I was researching and it shows that she is actually their daughter.

Any information I may receive on the Blackwall family from Henly who migrated to High Wycome sometime between 1861 and 1871 would be appreciated. In the 1871 Census of Buckinghamshire Edaward, Sarah and families surname was transcribed as BLACKWELL.

See below details I have so far researched.

Descendants of Edward BLACKALL

Generation No. 1

1. Edward BLACKALL He married Sarah UNKNOWN.

Children of Edward BLACKALL and Sarah are:

1. James BLACKALL, b. Abt. 1817, Henley, Oxfordshire, England, UK
2. Priscilla BLACKALL, b Abt 1821, Henley, Oxfordshire, England, UK
3. Richard BLACKALL, b Abt 1824, Henley, Oxfordshire, England, UK
4. Emma BLACKALL, b Abt 1828, Henley, Oxfordshire, England, UK
5.
Hi:

I have been researching the Blackhall family tree. My father was Frederick and his father was Alfred. My greatgrandfather was Joshua Blackhall. He moved to Winnipeg about 1901 and lived with his son, Samuel. I believe he died in 1909.Joshua's sons were: Samuel, Alfred,Charles, Frederick,James and Herbert. I have been trying to trace where the sons went to after London, Ontario. If you can add to my records I would appreciate it, thank you.

Irene

Mariah BLACKALL from NY married Isaac Hull. They lived in OH (maybe around Butler Co). One child was Mary Elizabeth Hull b. 3/13/1835. I don't know yet if there were other children. I'm assuming Mariah was b. between 1800 and 1820, maybe.
Elaine Kahler ekahler@yahoo.com

Sally,
Another posting gave me the names of Issac W. Monroe and Mary Blackall. Even had a response from a Blackall.

To answer your question, they were in Utica, Oneida County, NY.

The baptism records for their children were in the First Presbyterian Church in Albany, NY.

It is strange though, the 1880 census shows Isaac W. Monroe being born in 1856, which couldn't make him the husbanc of Mary Blackall, b4/25/1793.

I have been told Isaac Monroe's wife, Mary Blackall's parents were William J. Blackall and Hannah A. Thorn. It seems that William Blackall had two wives, the other wife was Frances(Fanny) Burton.

John Blackall and Johanna Blackall, who were both age 56 during the the 1880 census had a daughter Mary Blackall, who was 20 years old at the time of the 1880 census. (That Mary Blackall would be too young to be connected to the Issac Monroe I am searching for.) That census took place in Ellicottville, Cattargus, NY.

I need to take some time to sort out the information. It is quite possible that these people were all related. They all seemed to be in upstate NY.

What years are you looking at? When were they married? Do you know when they were born?

And what part of New York? (Do you mean state or NYC?) I've traced some Blackalls who lived in Rochester, NY, from the mid-1800s to around 1940.

I appreciate this is borderline to your board, but maybe somebody has informations on the parents of Colonel Robert Blackall Graham. He was born in Agra (India) in 1838. He was the son of Colonel Graham, Bengal Infantry, his mother would have been a Blackall.

He was baptized in Agra on the 29th April 1838. He was educated at George L. Hanson's, Brighton for three years and John Brackenbury's Wimbledon from February 1855. He was accepted for the Bengal Cavalry in April 1856 and arrived in India in May 1856 for service with the 7th Bengal Cavalry.

Any hints would be appreciated.

Re: RICHARD & MARGARET BLACKALL of Oxfordshire

Jane,

I'm not sure of the connection, but you might be interested to hear that I have recently started researching my family history. My grandmother Rose Ada Faulk(e)s is the child of Edith Agnes Blackall who was daughter of Richard Blackall (b. 1825 Henley, Oxford, England). Richard and his wife Lydia (n. Hambledon) are buried at Holy Trinity Church, Henley. I haven't been able to check the Paris records, but couldn't find any other Blackalls buried there. I hope to retunr to Henley this summer.

Looking for any information on Elizabeth Blackall d 1822 in Ballykinlily, Tipperary, Ireland and married to Francis Young in 1802 in Ballykinlily, Newport Parish, Tipperary, Ireland.
Her mother was said to be the daughter of Croker Barrington and her father was Barrinton Blackall. None of this substantiated.
Any info would be most appreciated.

Vicki Reynolds Mazur
iampilot@sbcglobal.net

As I search this board for people who might have info to share, this seems a good place to post.

I am researching Katherine Blackall, wife of John Duhan and mother of Mary Duhan (d. 2 Jan 1909), who married John Dineen (Sr). They are all placed in NY. Katherine has a note (someone else's research) that says Medina, NY.
