Lucas and Blackford's of Warren Co., OH
http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~ohwarren/Court/chancery03_...

My ancestor is a Francis Lucas listed in this. The cousin who pointed this out to me asked why Francis Lucas was named as a guardian. BTW, the Lucas were from Raritan, NJ, moved to Washington Co., PA, then to Mason Co., KY and finally to Warren Co., OH. Thomas Lucas and son Franicis Lucas were in Clear Creek Township. Through previous posts, this was also the route of the Blackford's.

Any insight to the relationship of the Lucas & Blackford families? Simply neighbors or family tie-in?
When and where were the names changed? I have not been able to find Joseph Blackford's parents. He was in East Fairfield, Columbiana County, OHIO when his wife had Daniel Blackford who died over the state line in Beaver County, PA. Daniel 1820, Joseph 1795 married Amelia Walker. Daniel married Mary Warrick.
Their daughters Phobeo and Catherine married Berresford brothers from Derbyshire, England and spent their lives in Beaver County, PA/Columbiana County, OHIO, coal businesses.
Any help greatly appreciated.
I am researching Blackfords, mainly my GG Grandfather John Blackford PA/OH/CA. His wife was Mariah or Mary Barrie. I believe his first wife was Susannah Vale. She died young (35sh) after having 4 children. Mariah and John also had 4 children one being my Great Grandfather Price Blackford. I am trying to confirm the Blackford/Garretson line. I have most everyone from John on down but need help backwards. I connected Susannah Vale with my John in a couple of ways mainly that they had a son names Robert and a Robert died by an electrical storm while in the service and he was the son of a John Blackford from Grass Valley CA which is where my Great Grandfather was born and where his father John resided until he committed suicide.

Here is my line, starting with my g-grandmother.

Eleanor Long m. Max Shreve
-Elizabeth Ruhl m. Howard Long
--Julia McCreary m. Jesse Ruhl
---Samuel McCreary m. Harriet Blackford

I just want to verify my line with people who may have more information.

Now, Harriet's line:
Harriet Blackford m. Samuel McCreary
-Aaron G. Blackford m. Christiana Millard
--Joseph Blackford m. Elizabeth Garretson

And the Garretson's also appear on Samuel McCreary's side:
Samuel McCreary m. Harriet Blackford
-John McCreary m. Julia Lease
--Thomas McCreary m. Mary Garretson

Am I correct in assuming that Mary and Elizabeth are both daughters to William Garretson m. Mary Frazier?

Any input and corrections are greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Hi Carolyn!

Your gg-grandfather, Ephriam was born in Alfred, Me. His parents were John(III) and Celia (Jones) Wormwood. Celia was the daughter of Bartholomew & Christiana (Gay) Jones. And John's parents were John (II)and Catherine (Cousins) Wormwood. John (III) was first wife was Sarah Harris and Celia Jones's first husband was Ephriam Ricker. John (ILI) and Celia had 5 children, two of whom appear to have died young....the others Ephriam, Thomas (who removed to Boston) and Celia G.

John (II)'s parents were John and Bethiah (Rankin) Wormwood they came from Wells, where all their children's baptisims are on record. They relocated to Alfred.

I hope this helps!
Laurie

There is a chance that your Benjamin Blackford was the brother of John Blackford and perhaps others and his parents were Joseph Blackford and Elizabeth Garretson. I have not proven this line but believe this to be in the right direction. John was born in York County PA in 1810.

I am related to the Blackfords through my paternal grandmother. I can definitely trace my lineage to Anthony Blackford, b. 1792, and his wife Elizabeth Duncan. I have a bit of trouble with his father/mother. Benjamin, yes, but the mother I cannot prove. I can give you all the dates etc from Anthony to the present for myself, if it would be useful.
Amy

I am looking for someone who might be interested in two charcoal or pencil portraits I have of a Matt Blackford and Mrs. Blackford. Mrs. Blackford's is dated on the back 1912 and signed with the artist's intial W.B. They also list Crestline O under their names.
On the back of Mrs Blackford another name had been written but was erased. It was Elmer Blackford of St.Stevens.
The couple are older in the photos. Matt looks older than she does, he looks to be 50-60 at least.
They are very nice portraits, there are some minor damages, but they are in good shape. I am not sure what they are worth, but on the back the original price is $2.00 and that was back in 1912!!!
E-mail me at her_holiness@juno.com and I can probably send photos of the prtraits

Debbie,
I haven't had much of a chance to chase down Daniel lately, but I did find Joseph living in East Fairfiled in the 1820 census and in Clarkson in the 1830 census. I didn't find him in 1840, and in 1850 he is in South Beaver, PA, living very close to Daniel. After that, I haven't found him again. I am pretty sure that he is the father of Daniel. Some of Daniel's children were born in PA and some in OH - they are interspersed, so they must have moved back and forth at least 5 or 6 times. I have looked at Daniel's Civil War records a number of times, bu have not been able to find anything useful in them.

Hello Lauri,
Mary Blackford is buried at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden ,Mass. She died 6-2-1949 at the age of 70.
She has no headstone, but is buried in the same hole as Edward and Fannie Briggs and Sean Albee.I have no idea if Blackford is her maiden or married name.We don't have a clue as to who this woman is,or why she was interred with the Briggs's.She must have been someone special to them, though.

Buss family from Kent, England

Hi all,

I am very new to genealogy and have noticed some reference to the 'East Kent' Buss family. Could someone possibly explain the 'East Kent' and other branches (and perhaps help me out with which one I may belong to).

Have also quite a few Busses from Smarden. I belive that Smarden is not far from Lydd and Tenterden where I have several Buss ancestors going back to James born c1795 in Lydd.

My ancestry tree is a little out of date, however if you think there may be a connection my email address is moonheart@ozemail.com.au

Any information would be greatly appreciated as I seem to be stuck in the late 1700s!!!!

Kind regards
Lisa

I sent you an invite to review, see if that works. It goes back to Susan Blackford who left home and had a son William, born 16 Mar 1683. There does not appear to be a record of any father. It is George Blackford and Ann Wilson who had 13 children. I am happy to email you a .ged file of Blackfords that you can import to your records if you will do likewise.
See tree listed as Hilda Margaret Smith. Elizabeth Blackford, born 6 Dec 1815, daug of George and Ann, traces back to William in 1683. If you can send me any further information you have I would like to add it to my private tree that traces my extended family. I guess we are something like 5th cousins. Let me know if you cannot access this tree.

Martha,
I just happened across your posting here and I'm hoping we can swap information. I'm looking for my Blackford line. I've only been able to get what my grandfather can remember, and that's pretty much his grandfather's name, William Hamilton Blackford. I have reason to believe that HIS father was William Hamilton, too, or at least Hamilton. I found information on the First Presbyterian site about Joseph (m. Isabelle Latimer) Blackford and his son William Hamilton Blackford. I can't prove that's the W.H. Blackford I'm looking for, yet, but it seems likely. Anyway, I was wondering where your dates come from, etc., and what else you might have on this line.

Thanks,
Elyce Townsend Cucksey

I have George and Ann as her parents but no dates for them, and then I have her marriage to John Hayward 01.01.1836 Burwash, and their three children James, John and Sophia. I am descended through James who marries Caroline Kitchenham but then only a few years later is living with Ellen Biddlecombe in Wadhurst, they have 12 children before marrying in 1899 following Caroline's death.

I know that Samuel Blackford was born about 1640, and died 12 Apr 1712 in Piscataway, New Jersey. I am descended from his son, John Blackford, Sr.

I believe that the Nicholas mentioned here is the same Nicholas Blackford that signed the Flushing Remonstrance of 1657.
I am searching for a cousin that was given up for adoption. She was born Judith Ann Blackford on 12/19/62 at Maricopa County Hospital in Phoenix, AZ. Her adoption took place in Phoeniz, AZ about Nov 1963 by attorney Gerald Tupper. I was told her adopted parents names were James and Carolyn Ray. She also has a brother born sometime in 1964 also adopted my the same family, possible name given was Lee.

Any help would be appreciated.
