I am descended from the MacLeods of Pictou county, Nova Scotia. John MacLeod (1795-1872), son of Angus MacLeod and Jane Sutherland, married Jane Blackie (1794-1862). She was apparently the daughter of James Blackie and Jane. I have the following note on him:
It is unsure where his daughter was born. The following Blackies have been noted: John and Charles Blakey were listed on the Pictou Arms Roll (1783); Andrew Blakey or Blacky, a single man born in Nova Scotia was an inhabitant of Merigomish requesting 100 acres of land in c. 1806 from the Pictou government; William Blackie of West River, had 3.5 acres and was requesting more like Andrew. In the 1817 census of Pictou county, there is a James Blackie with 3 men over 16 and under 50 (including himself), 5 boys, 1 woman, and 3 girls, for a total of 12 (7 sons, 3 daughters).
Does anyone know anything further about how this family fits in to the ones mentioned? I wonder if James Blackie is the son of Charles.
thanks
