They are my wife's great grandparents as well. We need to make the final link. We had no idea that he had 17 kids...and one of them is my wife's grandmother, Errie or Eurie Blackman. Do you have access to the names of the 17 kids? Also, you can find Benjamin Blackman right here on rootsweb. type in Josephine Joiner. You are probably my wife's cousin. Please respond.

Best,
Phil Reed Halfhill

Three Blackman names, anyone know how they are related?

There was actually a posting several years ago about one of these people, but it was so long ago that the original poster probably is not looking for replies any longer.

My paternal grandmother, Minnie Gilson (nee Blackman) died in 1931 before I was born, but others in my family mentioned that the other two sets of people were related to us. The problem is how?

Samuel Blackman was the one who was the subject of a post. I had only been aware of the initial S, not the name Samuel, but that he had a syrup company in Philadelphia and two daughters married men named Bricklin and Altman (and Mrs. Altman was named Helen) makes it clear that this is the right family.

There was also a Henry Blackman living in Brooklyn in the 1950s. He too owned a syrup company named HBC.

If anyone can help with connections -- was Minnie Samuel's sister, niece, aunt? How was Henry connected to Samuel? -- please respond.

Blackman and Britt families of Bertie/Sampson/.Johnston in NC

Looking for information on a possible connection of the Blackman and Britt families of Bertie/Sampson/Johnston Counties in NC.

Thomas Britt m. Martha King in 1793 in Bertie County. They later moved to Sampson County and in 1840 settled in the Bentonville area of Johnston County. My Britt line is related to the Britts around Grantham/Mount Olive in Wayne County also.

Thomas and Martha had many children. My gg grandfather was born in 1813 and his name was Blackman Britt. He also had a son named Blackman Britt, Jr. (who moved back to Sampson County). I believe that maybe Thomas' mother may have been a Blackman as Martha King's parents and line is well documented.

Samuel D. Blackman- NY & PA

I have been searching my Bewley line for many many years. I want to find the parents of my GG Grandfather George Thompson Bewley. He was born 1853 in Reading, Berks County, PA. The first time that I find George is in the 1860 census living with Samuel D. Blackman and his wife Henretta (Piper) Blackman. In 1868 Henretta died. Some time between 1868 and 1870 Samuel married Margaretta (Piper) Blackman, George is still living with Samuel. They are all buried in Charles Evans Cemetery in Reading in the Samuel Blackman plot. There are additional people buried in Samuel's plot: Almira Piper, Rebecca Piper, John Piper buried in 1848. Abner Bewley 1856, Samuel Blackman (father of Samuel) 1857, Olive Blackman 1860, Clara Thompson 1861, Maria Piper 1865 (I believe the mother of Henretta, Margaretta, and Mary (Piper) Bewley), Walter Blackman 1871, William Piper, dentist, 1875, Evelyn Bewley, George T. Bewley, Margaretta Blackman 1889, Samuel D. Blackman1889, Lydia Bewley 1900 and Herbert Blackman 1912.
Another Bewley family Abner Bewley and Mary (Piper) Bewley had 3 children, Evelyn, William and John B. Mary (Piper) Bewley kept house for Samuel Blackman after his wives died. I feel that there is a relationship to my George.
I do have the obit for Samuel D. Blackman which is how I found out that he married 2 sisters and that Mary Bewley was his sister-in-law.
My question is Henretta the mother of George? Was she married to a Bewley and who was he?
I need help with this puzzle. Help and suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
Shirley
I am descended from the same Blackman lineage (Stephen Blackman & Ann Snell) and already knew about your great grandparents but like you had nothing on Elizabeth's parents. I assume they lived in Rutherford County. Please provide me as many details on them such as dates and places of birth, marriage, death and burial and their children and I will see what I can come up with. I live in the area. It will likely take weeks to find anything.

Also interested in whatever information you may have on the parents of William Blackman, Sr. who died in Varina Parish, Henrico County, 1697-1698.

It would be helpful if you respond directly to me at Rainsman13@aol.com.

Re: Benjamin Blackman

Hi Sherrie,

I now have the marriage certificate for Benjamin Blackman - my Great Great Grandfather, and therefore have the fathers' names for Ben and his wife.

Interestingly, having checked out the 1893 article I refer to I can now see that the American Blackmans are my relatives. The link is: - http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/CAM/Chatteris/
CambridgeshireTimes1893.html

The James Blackman referred to appears to be my Great Great Great Grandfather and William (who emigrated) - his son - an Uncle, and another son George (Tom)also an uncle. These are all shown as living in Mepal in the 1841 Census.

I think your William may be different - too young? only one William age 30 shown in 1841 census and his parents would be James and Elizabeth. He would then have emigrated about 1858 by my reckoning. I think his wife was Elizabeth, and they may have had a daughter called Susannah - looking at the 1841 Census briefly, but I will have to check it out in more detail.

It is frustrating not to be able to get stuff online before 1837. I am now at the stage where I will have to go to look at the Parish records. I am in the country, but it's still a long way to go!

If you are related to Blackmans from Mepal/Witcham area, it is likely that we are related somehow.

Happy searching!

Sandra

I came across a passage in an old book that may be of interest to this Blackman family. At the time it was a mystery, which is why I started looking around to see if it had been solved...which is of course what led me here.

I don't know if it's already common knowledge but its on pages 2_1017 and 2_1018 in "History of Newport County, Rhode Island: from the year 1638 to the year 1887.." on Ancestry.com. It's about the gravestone of J. Blackman Sr. and how it ended up in the basement of a house.

family of Hollis Blackman born 1803

Does anyone have a list of all of Hollis and Delila (Clark) Blackman's children?

1830 Lancaster county, SC census listed 1 male 5-10; 2 females under 5; and 1 female 5-10

1840 Harris county, GA listed 1 male under 5; 1 male 5-10; and 1 male 15-20
2 females 10-15 and 1 female 15-20

1850 Harris county has daughter Darzey? age 19, John age 18 and William age 9 (other info says William was born 1839) Elizabeth was already married.

This leaves the oldest male born 1820-1825, and one daughter born 1820-1825 and one daughter born after Elizabeth 1827-1830. Is it possible that the oldest son is Perry Blackman born about 1820 married Rachel Laney and died before 1850 Harris county, GA. Perry's son in buried in the same lot as Delilia and William in Antioch Cemetery, Claiborne Parish, LA

Tutorship Antonette Blackman 1855 Claiborne parish, LA

Antonette Blackman has a tutorship 1855 in Claiborne parish having to do with money she was to receive from her grandfather David Laney when he died. Her brother Perry Blackman, Jr. had died 1852 (buried Antioch Cemetery with Delila Blackman, wife of Hollis Blackman, Wm. H. Blackman, son of Hollis, and Early Baker grandson of Hollis)
In Antonette's tutorship are brothers Hollis Blackman, John C. Blackmon, Alfred Blackman. Also James J. Blackman, John S. Blackman, Burrell C. Blackman and 3 men who were married to Blackman girls--Burrel C. Johnson, James M. Scaife, and James C. Baker with whom Antonette was living at the time. Antonette would have been about 14 at the time.
James C. Baker was appointed tutor, Alfred Blackman the under tutor.

Can anyone tell me what happened to Sarah Antonette Blackman? She cannot be found in 1860 census so was either married or dead.
Any information on Antonette or any of the men in her tutorship would be greatly appreciated.
Is there any way I can find a follow-up on what happened to her inhertance?
Hi Annette, I have information on Elizabeth Blackman nee Harley. One of their daughters, Mary Anne married Joseph Barsdon [born in England] they had a daughter, called Mary Anne who married a Richard Smith. They had a son called William Henry Smith who married Matilda Bailey, they were the parents of my mother Muriel Bertha Smith who married Frederick John Smith. I hope this might be of help to you. There was a family get together in Mudgee in 1901 /1902 to celebtate the bi-centenial of Elisabeth and James Blackmans arrival in Aistralia
Leona
