Meredith...bingo...I know that your query was in 2000...but I may be able to help you along...altho' I may have more questions than answers.

Here is what I know...Henry William Z. T. Blackstone was born in 1847 in GA...evidence points to his marriage to Angeline Hawkins in 1863...I ran across a story that said that Henry and Angeline went to New Orleans...and supposedly there Henry was killed in a gunfight...at least that is the story that Angeline supposedly gave her dad when she returned to GA with her two sons...sans Henry.

In 1868 Henry married a Martha Adkins...however, I have also run across somewhere (and I didn't write it down)an account of Henry's marriage to Martha A. Blalock in the home of M. M Blalock.

Henry and Martha are significant to me because their daughter Emma Samanthia...born in 1883 in Salem AR is my wife's grandmother.

So any info you can share I would appreciate.

Charles Dickson

I'm trying to find out what his father's name was. Somewhere up the line there was also a Max Blackstone, whom my grandmother Maxine was named after. any info would help...thanks.

Jason

HL, thanks for your help. This Mary would be the mother of William Lee and her maiden name was Vandergrif. The only reference I can find to my GGfather William is the 1880 Texas census where Mary and Wm Lee were residing with her brother William Vandergrif. I have no other references to Lee's father William. I need to find out where in AR Lee was born. Maybe that will establish a better line on Lee's father William.

Thanks, Mike Blackston

Hi, I go by Blackston as did my father, grandfather and possibly great grand father. I say possibly as I have no direct link to him except a censes naming him as father to William Lee Blackston, my grandfather. At that point I have run out of leads. I completed a DNA test and have found genetic correlation to the Braxton family in South Carolina. As of yet they have not replied to my inquiry for information. I am thinking the Blackston/Blackstone/Braxton line started moving westward around 1800.

Mike Blackston

My DNA results suggest a strong connection to the Braxton family from South Carolina. Any help on a possible Blackston/Braxton moving west after 1855 would be nice.

thanks, Mike Blackston

Thank you so much for your reply. My Blackstone family was only recently connected, by DNA, to the Richmond CO James Blackston family. I have been trying to find the link to the 2 families. Your James must have been in Forsyth CO after 1800. He could be the one I am looking for. Have you noticed there are a lot of James Blackstons/es out there?
Again, Thank you for your reply.
Glenda Baker
Thanks for the reply. My tree is located here: http://trees.ancestry.com/pt/pedigree.aspx?tid=1133136&p... . You might see something or interest or incorrect, either way, I would appreciate your input. As you can see, I have included Anne E. Haygood in y tree. Glad to meet another relative. The only on one this site I have communicated with is Janice Holton, who is interested in the Buckmaster line. Please look at the info I have collected on William Lee's father and let me know if it adds up. I found the last reference to him and Mary in a 1930 census. That census is referenced on his page.

My email is captmike03@hotmail.com if you wish to correspond. I am eager to share information with anyone who is interested.

Thanks, Michael D. Blackston

I am also descended from William Lee Blackston, through his first
marriage to Annie Eliza Haygood. I have spoken to a cousin of yours who was not as interested in family history. :)

The next generation all I have is the name of William, whom I believe was from Arkansas, and his wife Mary Vandergriff. All I know about this William is speculation offered to me by another Blackston researcher:

a real possibility is William E. Blackstone, 23, born in Arkansas. He is on the 1870 Deview, Woodruff, County Arkansas census. Remember that Mary Vandergriff's brother Alfred is on the 1880 Barnes, Woodruff, County census. Those towns aren't that close, but they are in the same county and they may have migrated. Also, Mary's sister was on the 1870 Wittsburg, Cross, Arkansas census. I can't find William after 1870 and I haven't been able to place him with a family in 1860. But Blackstone is so badly spelled sometimes, he might be hiding there.

Please feel free to contact me personally.

My Father was Willis Ray Blackston, one of 9 Children born of william Lee Blackston (B: 3 Dec 1874 - D: 3 Jan 1948) and Cora Alice Buckmaster (B: 13 Mar 1874 - D: 23 Aug 1947). William was married first to Anna Eliza Haygood (M:10 Nov 1895)and produced a daughter, Vera Lenora.

william Lee's father was
william (?) Blackston (B: 1855 maybe in OHIO) He died sometime after the 1930 census, This man was married to Mary A. Vandergrift (B: 1859 maybe in MS or IN). I think William Lee Blackston was thier only child.

All I can find out about the next generation of Blackstons, Williams parents, is that they might still be in Europe. A source censes listed them simply as "Europe".

I would appreciate any lead on these blackstons, Maybe a James & Polly Royle? Just a guess. I wold think around the late 1700's or eairly 1800's. Any help appreciated.

Whitney, most Blackstons came from England as far as I have found. There are many spellings however. Blackiston, Blackstone, Blacksten, Blaxton, etc. I have found many Blackstones who were black, when I was researchng my lines from Delaware and MD. Also in the 1880 census. I have seen several Blackstones on the Guion-Miller rolls listing Cherokee Indians in the Georgia area. From what I can tell, some English Blackstones married into both black and Indian lines here in the US. I don't know about the Swedish part tho. Hope this helps.

His father was Joseph Blackston, died in St. Joseph when I was little. Maybe 1976-77 perhaps earlier. It was the 70's though. Children of my grandfather are Aline Mae, Marica Ann, Jean Marie, Roy Edward, Terry Joseph, Karl, and Robert Stanley. I know that there were Cherokee in our lineage that I can't find.
My father in law was Wilbur Dawes Blackstone. He said they used to go by Blackston. He had a brother named Ray and another brother named Eddie. His mother's name was Grace Dawes Blackstone and his father was William (I think). I have a little background if this is the family you are looking for. If not, good luck.

David Henry Blackston

I am looking for information on my maternal grandfather, David Henry Blackston. He was born Sept. 2, 1881 in Winona, MS I think. He died July 3, 1954 and is buried in Canton, MS. He married Sallie Weathersby Dinkins and they had two daughters, Marion Laye Blackston, and
Nancy Pittman Blackston (my mother). They lived in Canton. I have very little info on his ancestors and siblings. He may have had uncles (?) named Walter and Dick. I believe he had two sisters, but don't know their names.
I would appreciate any information any one can provide.
Sincerely,
Nan Wesley James
